Hey everyone, new to the forum i have a 99 eclb. I put a new ecm in after signs of a failed ecm, while I was waiting on the new one I pulled the alternator out to test it to avoid the bad diode problem. So I figured id do the mod w-t wrote about with the regrounds and new alternator power wire and what not. Well cut to I finshed it all up put the new ecm in and hooked the batterys up and i got nothing? No interior lights, headlights and no power at all. I had batterys tested and they were good. Cleaned all of my grounds again made sure everything was hooked up .checked over the wiring a few times im clueless now, im not good at electrical diagnostics, any idea of where to start?  Thanks for the advice

  • Do you have power to the PDC? Did you leave the short positive lead from the drivers battery to the PDC?

Make sure all ECM harness connectors are plugged in all the way.

Check out IOD fuse in the cab. It might of blown. You have to open the yellow clip to get the fuse out.

Then check all the fuses in the PDC under the hood.

IOD fuse is good i checked the fuses under the hood a few times all seem good. Theres no power to anything at all, not just lights. I just rechecked the ecm plug and it was all the way in and tight.

Like I said you going to have to check those fuses. Pull the square ones out and ohm test the fuses. I've seen those crack and look fine but the circuit is dead. Here is all the power from the battery to past the key switch.

I'm gunna see if i can find a friend to help cause i know zero about electrical. I second guessed my self to even do the new ground change cause I really dont know much about electrical. From what I read from your simplified write up, you break apart the loom and cut the ground where it meets the 4 wire, ground those to the gear case and run a ground off the neg terminal to the same spot. Then run the alt power wire to the pass side pos terminal.?

I ohm tested the fuses in the pdc all were good

I AM AN ELECTRICAL GIANT!!!!

Back off the soap box now, I need to check all the pennies in fuse box to be sure they have not burnt thru yet. :gun:

Lol knowing my self it was something stupid i did or forgot, i appreciate it you saved me a ton of aggravation.

Now my only issue to solve is the lift pump isn't cycling before startup. It cycled one time for the first key up with the new ecm then nothing.

Oh i have been there just like you. Electrical is not my strong point by any means. I just knew it had to be simple. Thats why I enjoyed being a giant for that brief moment. I had pause about that wire when I did the mod. I did replace it with a new one from the parts house.

I do know that the ECM controls that prime of the lift pump. So I am thinking that is an ECM problem. Who rebuilt your ECM

Aftermarket is your only choice these days. I went thru this about 9 years ago. Getting help was almost non existant at the time. My experience was painful at the least.

The above article has some known good rebuilders. I would star with contacting the rebuilder and and letting them know about the problem.

Does the truck start ok? Have you tried to start it?

I just noticed that is the wrong article.

My intentions were to call them Tommorow about the problem, I tried to start it but it didnt get the fuel it needed to fire off so as of now ive yet to hear it run with the ecm

Got you covered.

EDIT

You're on fire tonight @dripley. Beat me out by a silly second.
