So I have an issue and I'm hoping it's not my injection pump. I've check all my fuel lines for leaks and everything is working as it should, no air all the way from the tank to the return line off the side of the vp44. Truck will not crank. Went to bleed lines 1 through 5 at the head and only getting fuel to lines 1 and 4.

  • Drive it like it doesn't owe you anything.  Vehicles can sense weakness and will take advantage of it..... similar to a horse, must of been passed down from cars of the early 1900's form horses.

  • Disconnect the VP44 wiring harness connector completely.  Connect pin 6 on the VP44 to battery ground.  Connect pin 7 on the VP44 to battery positive.  A diagram of the sockets on the VP4

  • Alright so after about 10 hours total, the fuel tank is clean, lines cleaned with no leaks, new filter, new vp44 and help from a number of people with ways to test, the ol blue b**** is back on the ro

Old vp44 is replaced under warranty now time to put it in

Who did you buy it the VP from?

A local shop that gets them directly from bosch. They said it's the one that has the upgraded electronics

New vp44 is in and just waiting to get my fuel pressure gauge back, then to bleed the lines and do one last check on my fuel psi before I test fire

but really just drive it and fix stuff that breaks beyond that basic stuff.

The ones that pack around extra tools and parts are typically the ones with all the roadside failures. Like myself, I've got basic hand tools but every single failure I had was beyond hand tools or what could be repaired on the side of the road.

  • Mainshaft in the transmission broke.
  • PCM fried after the alternator shorted the field lead.
  • VP44 timing piston stuck full advanced.

I've never had simple failures like belt break, hose leak, etc. Those things are dealt with during my monthly inspection. Not to mention I use an app on my cell phone call "Simply Auto" and track all my maintenance stuff.

After the Cummins got the cold shoulder and the cold garage for 17 days I'm sure it's going to straighten up and act right. If not the little Red 1/2 ton will steal its glory again. :truck:
