Today I decided to mess around with my edge OBD style programmer and uploaded the economy tune onto my truck. I had taken a trip on the highway the other week and wanted to see if I could get better then 16.5mpg. I started my truck and drove to work. It drove fine and started normal to me. After a few start ups throughout the day, I noticed that the WTS light was delayed, instead of coming on as soon as the key was turned on like it has been doing for the past 8 months I’ve owned this truck, it took about 5 seconds for it to come on. When the light came on, my fass lift pump also kicked on. I tried starting before the light kicked on and the engine would just crank. I feared the worse and thought my injection pump was going out, but it had been replaced a couple years ago, and I drive my truck very easy and on a stock tune with a secondary fuel pump. I was a little spooked so I changed the tune back to stock hoping that would fix it. It didn’t. After looking on these forums, it looks like the only answer is that my ecm is bad. I went to pull codes and got a p1694-no engine bus messages. I didn’t have any codes before I installed the tune this morning, but after I did these things have been acting weird. I’m not sure why this is happening, I have never had a problem like this. My truck has been working just fine until today. I’m not sure where to go from here. Should I just live with this 5 second delay on the WTS light? Or does the ecm have to be replaced? Can it be reflashed by the dealership? Can I reset it somehow at home by disconnecting the batteries? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

It is on the list Mike.

How do you find where the list is located on this forum?

A couple weeks ago I replaced the alternator on my with a brand new one. The WTS comes on normally now, no delay. It's been working fine for two weeks. Hopefully that solved my problem. Happy, happy!

About a week ago, I also replaced all the battery cables (2/0), new crimped ends, all ground wires, and used military style battery clamps. This might also help since my original clamps and cables were looking bad.

Much thanks to this forum for the great information it provides.

I did all that same thing, except I rebuilt and had tested my alternator.... Then I got a new ECM to remedy the wait to start

Make sure to test for the AC noise level out of the alternator. Then you want to do the W-T ground wire mod. While you there you might do the PCM protection fuse too.

I just sent my ECM to ACS for rebuild/repair, Auto Computer Specialist. ACS received it last Wednesday, just waiting.........

Make sure to tag @pepsi71ocean about your experience with your rebuilder... Need to keep the data flowing.

Mopar1973Man,

Thanks for the suggestions. What is the W-T ground wire mod? Some time ago I removed the ground wire from the loom that runs from the passenger side battery across the alternator and re-routed it over the radiator and enclosed it in a metal braided hose. That didn't seem to solve any of the problems. Is that what the W-T ground wire mod is?

I don't know what the PCM fuse mod is? Can you enlighten me?

I sure hope I'm not hi-jacking this thread too much. Let me know and I'll start a new one if needed.

Thanks again,

Buzz

The original version from WT. He explains it well here. Some folks have hard time getting thru the in depth explanation so @Mopar1973Man shortened it. It is more involved than just moving the ground, but it is easy to do and worth the effort.

Thanks dripley, that is more involved than just moving the ground. Now I have to see if I can do it correctly to my truck. I may have more questions....

Well, the WTS light delay issue has returned. Based on the recommendations here, I called ACS, Auto Computer Specialists. I will send my ECM off to them.

I also got a P0122 code this time (APPS low voltage). Is that caused by the bad ECM?

Thanks,

Buzz

Did you do the diagnostic work out of the P0122 code in the error code page?

No I didn't. Is the error code page somewhere on this forum?
