I am not confident or patient enough to build headlights like Mikes, can they be purchased already built?  If not I am going to have to talk mike into building me a set while he is hanging out in Oregon.  ?

  • If you are buy some prebuilt you will pay $700 or more.  It takes a TON of labor to build them.  ~$400 in parts and 4 hours or so

  • you can do it cheaper, but most builders use morimoto stuff because it generally does well.     D2s setup is ~$300 and some $100 housings.   Gotta make sure you compare apples to apples

I know it's not practical for some, but the best option is to build them yourself.

I got mine from Retro Shop.

Mike, there are a bunch of options on that page. I saw your review says  35W ballast, but it looks like there are 3 options just for those! Then, was there a "shroud" you had to choose for an additional $45? Too many options!

Correct. I got the larger lens, standard ballast, standard 35w bulb 5k. The H1 Mini's have a reduced beam path when the D2S lens wider path of light. Shroud has to be changed to fit the lens. My increase of price was a rush order and shipping went up big time.

Now looking at your photo @Evan...

Now my Morimoto D2S lens will cast light out 50 feet past the ditch on the driver side that is very dimly lit in your photo. As for my PIAA LEDs driving lights are light your for brightness at a fraction of the current draw. Just the PIAA cast a wider path of light just as bright. I would say that is a good upgrade just got to ask if the plastic lens is getting too hot? I'll admit my LED's snow over fairly easy where you would shed snow very well.

it says qty 1 does that mean $600 per side or for a pair? And do those hook to the existing wiring or are there pig tail adapters to buy also? I need better lights.

Cool $600 sounds way better then $1200 for lights. Do you have to buy adapter wiring?

I ordered mine from retroshop - the link above.  They were pricey, but worth every penny!
