The ECM is out of an automatic you need to have the dealer flash the manual engine programming. It is probably the anti stall acting up.    If not verify that it came from a late model truck

use the smarty to flash the ecm with the correct programming.

no it won't fry, all vp44 ecms are interchangable.

That’s what I thought I could do I just wanted a second opinion thanks for your input

NP,  I am not a fan of the smarty, but it does do ecm updates well.   Assuming of course the memory on the ecm is not worn out.  It is getting more and more common to see the memory on these old ECMS kick the bucket when you try to update.

Not to say you shouldn't just that it is possible.

If it were me I would give it a go.

I’m going to try it and hope for the best I have a camping trip plained for next week and need the truck to tow my camper so if it doesn’t go good then I’m going to be in trouble

It updates the programming in the ecm. The dealers have been doing for quite a while. I know you can do it with a Smarty too like @Me78569 says but what all changes is over my head.

So I put the smarty on my truck at first start it has a rough high idle for about 10 seconds then drops back to a normal idle but when it drops back down my tachometer stops working and the truck has hardly any power and it’s making throw a code for the crank sensor wth happened my truck is useless this way

I dont think smarty does any tranny changes other tha apps values.

Maybe crank sensor is bad??.

I'm very curious about ECM updates.

Immediately assuming updates would be loaded on to smarty and then loaded onto ecm ?

The crank sensor was fine before I installed the smarty I had no codes what so ever before

You need to talk to smarty and get the right flash for the ecm.  It put a early flash on a late truck.

Early trucks have crank and cam sensors late only have cam.

Call smarty or bob wagner and talk to them

I can’t find a number to contact them at I’ve looked on their page and it doesn’t give you one

I got a number to call from Bob Wagner but i can’t get an answer and haven’t gotten a call back yet I also emailed them but no reply yet

Sorry,

I should have been more clear to start, you won't damage ( aka fry)  the ecm but the wrong flash for the truck can cause issues with running.

Bob is pretty good at getting back to people so I am sure he will get you fixed up.

I have been calling since they opened and no one answers or calls back if you leave a message and still no reply from email I’m stranded with out my truck I really wish someone would answer or return a call or email

I suggest starting a trouble ticket, they will likely respond to that faster.

Still yet no reply I even called a dealer and they emailed smarty with my contact info and nothing this is really starting to get ridiculous I thought smarty was suppose to be a good company to deal with
