Truck ran out of fuel at quarter tank, no lights prior to, and when I got some fuel in it and started, I had a cel shortly after for p0341, and p0230, and the tach doesn’t work, rest of cluster works, and tach works on the tuner screen, also seems to make a weird noise under the hood kind of in the front cover area, Sounds like some kind of knock or something

P0341 is cam sensor failure and most likely why the tach isn't working. Just replace the sensor its only one allen screw and pull it out. 

 

P0230 is lift pump out of range most like the lift pump is pulling more amps or none at all. What is your fuel pressure like? This will make a impact on timing and could cause change in engine noise being the fuel pressure isn't there. 

Just replaced cam sensor this morning with no luck, and the truck has a Fass so I don’t know if this was always there with no light, because there’s no pump where the stock one would be, I clear the codes and the p0341 goes away with key on engine off, but the second I start the engine 0341 comes on right away, the light never goes off, and it’s weird I only seem to hear the noise when it’s in park or neutral, under a load you can’t hear it and it runs great, I did the 5 volt test at the cam sensor harness and have 4.9 v and pin b has a good ground so I’m kinda lost right now

Wiring issue between the ECM and the sensor. Check for open wires or shorts to ground.

It could because the ECM sees the tach signal drop and now it uses other means to figure out RPM and Timing of the engine from the P0341 code. It could be the lift pump and fuel pressure is too low and creating issues too which this could be the P0230 code.

So I think it’s the ecm after some testing I did and the problem now is I called dodge and they don’t make or sell reman ecm anymore, and directly from cummins is 3000 dollars, is there any reputable place to buy ecm aftermarket or get rebuilt?

Shaking my head... Don't buy a $3,000 Cummins ECM. 

 

Auto Computer Specialist in Florida does a good job at rebuilding units for about $500 buck typically. Even my replacement PCM I fried was less than $1,000.

So I had it sent out to auto computer specialist and they did fix p0230, however p0341 still there and has no tach, in the tech notes he says the reluctor wheel may be bad, along with some wiring to check but the wiring harness is all checking out good, and now I’m having a problem looking into this tone wheel situation, some people say it doesn’t have one for certain years etc, still don’t even know if that’s the actual problem but seems like it may be 

There is a member that had the tone wheel fall off the crank.

So an 02 does have one on the crank?

As far as I'm aware 02 only has cam sensor behind vp in the case. ACS told me my tach didn't work on my donor ecm because pcm was bad, I put my original ECM in and tech started to work again.

No. An 02 has no crank sensor so no tone wheel on the crank. The cam sensor does the work of the crank sensor on an 02.

Yeah it would be below the VP44. My bad.

So the when that the cam sensor sees on the cam is probably bad which would suck but be a good time to do a p pump swap?

Its just tone wheel maybe. If that was the problem think l would just replace it though l have no idea whats necessary to do that. But p pump. I think not for me.

P-pump is not for me.  I'd rather have a root cannel; faster and less painful.

I will never suggest a p-pump a truck. The only reason is to race the truck. Of all the people here that p-pumped end up parking that truck and buying another vehicle because it broke down all the time. One member I asked to meet me and he was to scared to drive it because of failure rate was high.

 

Like on my truck ill lose cruise control which I use a lot.

So if all my cam sensor wiring checks out, and I replaced the cam sensor itself, did a pinpoint test that led to ecm, which was just send out and fixed, and I still have this damn p0341 and no tach, is a pcm a possibility? Or do I need a cam or is the ring on the cam replaceable?

It appears you can replace it to me. Whether or not you have to pull the cam I dont know. The crank tone wheel can be pulled since it is 2 pieces. Maybe the o e on the cam is too. There is a possibillity the cam sensor you installed is bad. It does happen occasionally. 

 

Here is picture of my gear and you can see the fasteners that hold it on. Appears to be 3 of them screwed in from the back of the gear.
