Posted September 11, 201014 yr Does anyone have the dimensions for the VP44 gear puller? I want to make one for almost free rather than paying $40 + for one.
September 11, 201014 yr Most Auto parts stores (autozone, advance,O'reilly) will loan you the a puller,as far as i remember it's not anything special just a 4 finger gear puller.
September 11, 201014 yr are you replacing the vp44 or just needing the gear off? if replacing this is what i have used i just used a long punch. make sure you can get a new nut or got a new one but just screw the nut on bout half way make sure all mounting nuts and bolts are out and give it one good smack and it will pop right out.
September 12, 201014 yr i never tried smacking it. might work though. any small puller should work as long as it will fit in the opening in the timing cover. take off the crankcase breather and you can see the gear
September 12, 201014 yr Do you need the bolt size? Or the space from bolt to bolt? I have some info for you just dont know what you are looking for. Just did mine yesterday. --- Update to the previous post... The puller to the left has a shorter shaft and fits better in the engine compartment. Both of these pullers will work. --- Update to the previous post... I will get this thread size to you soon.
September 12, 201014 yr Author I will be replacing it. I found one on line by blue point that was round. Does anyone have one of those? I can't find the dimensions for it. The puller fits inside the timing cover right? I can just take the breather out and measure.
September 12, 201014 yr Guess i'm at a loss of how to help you, you've been given a couple options, the one 4 finger puller shown above will work fine and you can borrow it from a parts store.
September 12, 201014 yr moostang, i have used one of them round ones but i think it take to long to get it in there and what not i promise you if you use the long punch you will be set.
September 12, 201014 yr I might have mislead you about the puller fitting in the opening at the breather cover. It does not have to fit inside the opening. but you can see the gear thru the opening. any puller you can get in front of the gear will work. Mine came off very easisly. Just be careful with the key in the shaft, if it falls out into the gear case it will make the job much more difficult
September 13, 201014 yr Author thanks everyone for the info. I watched a video on how to replace the VP44 and they used the round puller so I thought thats what was needed. Looks pretty easy now that I understand. I'm sure I have a puller that will work.
