So I have been having some surging issues under light pedal. It will consistently do this on any program I have on my quadzila, but no issues when turned to factory? I just installed a timbo apps and when I had cover off there is a sticker on the VP44 stating remanufactured. I bought the pickup 4 years ago from original owner and he never mentioned that the injection pump was ever replaced. Did they come from the factory remanufactured? Just seeing if anyone has seen this sticker on a pump from the factory

All vp44's are remans now. I dont know of anywhere you buy a new one. My original died at 75k. Most likey was replaced with a reman then. On my 4th one now at 517k. The surging could be several things.

Just went for a test ride and it seems to be resolved but!! What are some things that come to mind if it resumes

The biggest that come my mind are electrical. As in a good clean electrical system. Good cables, clean connections, clean grounds. I have experienced some surging and dead pedal on mine a while back. It never was the APPS sensor. Turned out my 5v system had an issue with a bad wire. I did replace all my battery cables and did the WT ground mod and all has been fine for me for the past 3 years or so. A clean electrical system make a happy truck.

I’ve done the WT mod as well and good new alternator can remember what noise is but it was low after all was done.

I am leaning towards the vp44 on its last leg for a few reasons. 1) white smoke at idle

2) sometimes after working it  hard, it will umm let’s say lope at idle.

I did replace injectors roughly 1&1/2 years ago and for some reason I recall seeing a post from mopar1973man ( maybe mistaken) talking about low pop pressure and white smoke being linked? And maybe a failing vp44 being linked with white smoke. I’ll have to see if I can find it because I also remember something about idle above 800 and engine load below 8%. Mine idles at 800-810 rpm engine load between 5&6%. I don’t know much but I know I need my rig dependable hek maybe I’m looking at it to hard and just need to drive it!?

Check for blow by with the oil cap off and could be sticky timing piston in the vp. If it sticks bad it can cause code 216.

It would not hurt to check for codes, the truck might be trying to tell you something. I have gad a high issue on mine with old injectors that new ones cured.

Injectors are getting weak but still rather good being your above 0% engine load yet. Like mine are even starting to slip a bit too. Nothing last forever, especially injectors.

All the truck I've seen so far have 0% engine load and the idle speed is above 800 RPM. Those are wiped out.

All the 3rd gen other I've looked at require ether or starting fluid to start or difficult to start and no smoke. Yup injectors are fired. Difference is 03 and up just better have close to $4,000 in your pocket. As for 24V somewhere around $300 to 400 to replace.

I don't think so, it looks like it's been changed by a dealer at some point, my truck has exact same sticker and po told me that the original owner he got it from had the pump replaced under warranty.

As for your surging issue it sounds identical to what I've experienced a while back. I too wanted to change the vp44, that's how I found this place. First I changed injectors it seemed to help but didn't completely cure it, then I checked ac noise and found I had bad diodes. So I rebuild the alternator and it got way better, and eventually when WT article came out did that and it lowered the ac noise a bit more.

I didn't have any white smoke then it was surging but fee times seen it come out of tail pipe after long hwy run coming to a stop sign, twice now and what's wired both times at same stop sign.

That's normal, just play with the go pedal to keep it from dying.

I'd say check ac noise to be sure, codes, go over grounds etc. White smoke is timing related usually. What fuel do you use, bio or regular and if regular do you add 2 cycle oil to it.
