Posted March 27, 20214 yr If I bypass the relay and have someone turn the key it starts. New position switch on left side of transmission. Transmission shop rebuilt trans last week. Could it be the position pawl is not engaging correctly? Can I check if I pull the pan?

March 27, 20214 yr Author New relays, Another thing I noticed, no fan and radio dies when key cycled to start. Pulling codes now No codes
March 28, 20214 yr Staff NO, in the above wire diagram the wire from terminal 87 of the starter relay does not go through the ADS rely but gives it power when starting and the FSM does not show the ADS relay in the starter circuit at all so remove that from the diagram. Check your ignition /starter switch and the wires going from it along the steering column, they are known to go bad where the steering column tilts. For the starting circuits run the tests below. Check for voltage at starter relay terminal 30 with key in the off position. If no voltage check fuse #2 (some years #9) in PDC, if yes go to #2, Check for voltage at starter relay terminal 86 with key in start position. If no voltage check starter switch and by pass jumper. if yes go to #3, With transmission in park ohm test between starter relay terminal 85 and ground. If meter reads OL ohms (open circuit) check wires going to PNP switch and switch, if meter reads 0 ohms go to #4 Check voltage to starter motor with key in start position. If no voltage check relay or wire from PDC to starter solenoid.

March 28, 20214 yr Author 0 vdc/No voltage at 30 with key in off position. No continuity from fuse 2 terminal to 30. Verified 12v at feed of fuse 2. Looks like an open in the pdc
April 6, 20214 yr Author Had the PCM reflashed, nothing I have no voltage to terminal 30 from pdc fuse 2
April 7, 20214 yr Staff Some years they used fuse #9 to power the relay. Check #9 fuse (30 amp) in the PDC if it's ok and if there is battery voltage there. If it's ok then open up the PDC and check the wire from starter relay terminal 30 to the fuse.
April 8, 20214 yr Owner Just has done a rescue call yesterday for a Jeep. Key on the dash lights up and headlights are bright. Hit the key and it black no click. Changed the battery it started right up. William has AAA and the AAA told him the battery is good starter was bad. No where correct. The battery has a cracked bus bar and is opening up under load. Change the battery it started right up.
April 9, 20214 yr Owner Like my run yesterday I used a screwdriver to arc the solenoid stud and the positive stud to test the starter. If the starter is good then... Starter Relay in the PDC swap with a another like fuel heater. Starter Solenoid fuse (test with a ohm meter I've seen these crack and fail.. looks fine but no connection.)
