Hey all, if any of you saw my fuel in oil post, I'm planning to upgrade my injectors a tad bit. Planning to go with 150s from 125s and then I'll be done adding power to the truck unless I come across a lot of money lol. I'm debating on going "cheap" and getting 7x010 VCO from DAP. If I got this route, should I just do the remans or do I get the new Bosch bodies? What's the biggest difference in these injectors when it comes to brand? They all seem to be Bosch injectors with bigger holes... So I wonder why buy one that is more expensive? Other brand I'm looking at is Infinite, 1BadVP44 sells them and TJ seems to love their injectors. There's a chance my injectors are fine and my seals happened to fail in only exactly a year's time... Just don't want to send them off for testing for a couple hundred when I can just get new ones and a bit higher HP. Open to all thoughts on this and if more info is needed, let me know!

  • I just came back from Roseville pulling my travel trailer. Mostly flat ground. Took 1/2 a tank. I believe about 230 miles to my sisters house. Checked my mpg once I topped off there. I got 12.66 mpg.

That's about it. Nothing that will truly change the angle or change the size of the tapered fitting. If its marred or pitted your going o have to replace that one line at least. I had this problem with the fitting at the crossover tubes with them weeping all down the back of the engine.

My  truck has 315's not quite as tall as a 35 IIRC,  auto, I tow most of the time and when not towing I'm in a 30mph limit for the most part, I turn off the OD so 3rd lockup and use this a lot

I like the look of my truck it's just right with the ally wheels and 315's not too big as needing a lift but enough, I do tow into some boggy places so prefer some thread

3rd OD and my final ratio to the ground really suits our speed limits here in the UK as it will go right down to just below 30mph without dropping out of LU and at 60 I'm at 2100 to 2200rpm with OD still in reserve for downhill, when not towing I don't really care and neither does my truck it just does what it says on the tin ( I only use 3rdLU in a 30 limit)

If I drive my truck like the above EGT's are low and I'm not too bad on MPG (did a test 2 days ago but due to this storm we've had haven't had a chance to refill to calc MPG)

 

If I leave my truck to decide the gear it needs as in leave the OD on then I can see EGT between 900 to 1100 towing this is not all the time this is just either on grades or passing or just putting a Jap pickup in it's place which I do quite a lot :)

 

There are more ways to skin a cat and while @Mopar1973Man is right I get the same end result, I just use OD as OD

Not quite the same as a manual though but I guess 5th instead of 6th is about the same

 Moral of the story, if someone has a good scan tool that is able to make changes they could possibly set the speedo right for you.

Yes a Snap On Modis ( not sure if it's called that for you) can change axle ratio and tyre size, I did the very same for a friend of mine that had a ABS light come on on  3rd Gen 1500 hemi that had a PCM meltdown,   He fitted a same year same truck PCM but tyre and axle ratio was wrong, soon as I connected and looked at stored against tyre sizes and axle ratios job done..... was dreading an actual ABS fault TBH.

I heard that with our 2nd gens, the parameters have a max of like 33in tires or something... I posted on I think the Facebook Cummins forum group and people were helping me out with that and someone said you can't change the speedo to work for 35s. I'll do more digging into this and maybe stop by a mechanic shop and offer them a 12 pack to use their snap on scanner real quick! Hahaha

I can't remember what the biggest tyre was but you are probably right about 33"

I also can't remember how many axle ratio's there are or whether that can be just inputted as any figure or just the factory ratio's

If this 4th storm in a week here calms down I'll go plug my Modis in and see what I can see, the only thing is my truck is 98.5 so might be different who knows at least you might know then if it is worth giving away beer or not 

I plugged in this morning I took pictures of my Modis screen but when uploaded to here they are upside down, right side up on my phone ??

There is the factory options for tyre and and axle BUT there is also a custom tyre count option, just guessing but would this be revolutions per mile ?  Mine is set for the biggest tyre on a 16" rim and the tyre count is 400 as the pic shows this cannot be right, I haven't used the custom tyre count as yet, tyre calc online say my revolutions per mile are 615, so I'm going to set it at 615 and see what happens.

There does not appear to be an option to set the axle ratio but if the tyre count is changeable I guess you could get to the correct overall for the speedo

Speaking from the other side of the fence as I have 4.10s, factory-ish tire sizes suck on fuel and rpms. The only nice thing about it is running around town in 6th at like 35-40. But that is borderline lugging the motor so its only in the flatter spots... getting through intersections is 2nd to 4th depending on the size of the intersection.. Highway is a lesson in getting comfortable with the engine screaming at 2250+ doing 65.. 70-75 is 2500 rpm.. Small wonder I can't get over 15 mpg :rolleyes:..

 

I have 35s ready to go on but still rockin 285/70r17s right now. And with diesel hitting $4/gallon here in CT, I think its time to get some economy back..

Like me perfect 2k RPM at 66 MPH. Then interstate is 2,450 ROMs at 80 MPH. Don't bother me one bit listening to that Cummins sing like a well oil machine. Like I said final between 3.55 and 3.73 is a good spot to be. Being Beast is 3.69 and Thor is 3.73.

My average speed was 57 mph. Just recently dropped back down to factory tire size.  Between traffic and road construction there was several stop and speed back up moments.  Regardless pretty happy with my mpg.

Final ratio plays a huge roll in good MPG's. 3.55:1 to 3.73:1 final to ground (calculating the tire size too) is the best range to hang in for most here.
