Yea... As of this morning I'm packing up and heading for California to pick up a new truck for our Fire Dept here. So I'll be gone for 3 days roughly and leaving MoparMom here at home to try and keep the site rolling. I've pack my laptop so I can attempt to check on site when I can. But anyone looking for support I'll be gone for 3 days so you'll have to grab support from others staff or members till I return.

Wife and I left our house west of Bismarck ND and drove straight thrrough to Phoenix AZ a few years ago and not knowing the GPS setting took us on the shortest route past denver where my wife took over and wife didn't wake me until 3 am lost on narrow 2 lane mountain roads in sw colorado, took us a bit longer to get on track after that rather than fastest and heading straight south of Denver on the interstate. But it was scenic once we figured out where we were and where we were headed.

Made it there in 23 hours with a breakfast stop in a small town in the mountains in colo.

I'll bet that it was still YOUR fault also!!!

Michael & his Chief are 1 hour away from Reno,Nv.  They are going to drive on into Winnemucca, Nv. and stay there.  They are pleased with the diesel they are bring back and they are enjoying the trip.  Very pleased with everything.  Love MoparMom.

I am glad thaty things are going good for them. It really sucks to have problems on a mission like that.

Glad they made it out if the peoples republic of California. I was going to see if he could pic me up an AR15 while down there. Lol.

I'm home. 3 days later... I got on photo on my cellphone of the truck but oh what the hell I'll most likely be up to the Chief's tomorrow to give him a hand unloading the beast. I'll get pics soon for you all.

Nice 2006 Ford 550 7.3L Powerstroke diesel.

Must of been a repower with the 7.3? 06 Was the era of the 6.0.

Good to hear you made it home safe, that had to of been a long 3 days

Fleet customers could buy things not available to the general public.  One such was a utility owned single rear wheel 3500...  I forget the year.

A Ford first response/emergency response vehicle is oxymoronic don't y'all think??!! :2cents:  :stirthepot:

Sandpoint city's rescue vehicle is an f-350... Ambulances are more often than not a Ford as well.

:banghead:

Unless your like Mike, even if the ford lives up to its name, response time for another unit is not too bad. Atleast around here, lol.

...alright, alright, I think I'll stop bashing ford.

If it wasn't for the fact that Dodge owners didn't ask so damn much for there used trucks we (or the Fire Chief) would of bought a Dodge over a Ford but Ford 550 trucks are cheaper by near 5,000-8,000 dollars over any Dodge of like year. The fire dept spent right around $6,900 for this truck. Like I said I'll get more information and pic today.

Anything with a 6.0 is cheap, it's the worst and most unreliable diesel ever put into a pickup and the resale value shows that.

If you don't have to pass e check at a minimum you should look into an EGR delete and either clean/replace the oil cooler.

Many of the 6.0 problems were Ford related, the same engine in the Internationals were much more reliable.

What about the late 70's diesel Oldsmobiles? Ford 6'litre has got to be better than those.

Where they in pickups?

Are you talking about the 350 converted? Can't be much better ;-)

The 6.4 wasn't much better........................and the 6.7 they run now is hit or miss;  and they get piss poor mileage from what I've read.  Just saying, not arguing or course!!  :thumb1:

The 6.2L and 6.5L were used from 1982 through 2000.

Far as the 350 being converted: The only thing the 5.7L diesel shared with the 5.7L gas was tranny bolt patterns and motor mounts. Other than that they were completely different engines. If you were working on both and only looking at the crank from the underside you would see very little similarities.
