  1. I am going to try and get a thread going showing all the components on the truck that aren't part of the engine (since I know we have many diagrams throughout the site showing that). I will start with steering and add stuff as I think of it. Here are all the Steering and Suspension components. This is on a 1997 2500 2wd, I will get pics up of 4wd steering components when I get some. Thanks for the help AH64ID! I just got 4wd pics now but I guess there is a 10 pic limit so scroll down to my next post for them.
  2. 99,I put an answer on the other site too, but I don't think you clobbered anything in the TC, you just may not have the TC shifter adjusted properly.Disconnect the shifter and move the TC input by hand and make sure it will go in the different positions. if it does, then the problem is definitely external.Hag
  3. If you hand sharpen the chains you will almost surely get the same curved cut, I have tried a lot of types of elcheapo sharpening tools but it was explained to me that everybody has a prodominent hand and will always get one edge sharper than the other the way we file. After watching him go through the motions and he had me do it he showed me exactly why it was happening.I now take mine to town and spend the $4 each to have them sharpened on a machine, well worth the money. I usually have about 6-8 chains in circulation during wood season.I cut the stumps off at ground level and that kills chains in a heartbeat with even the slightest amount of dirt. I usually get all my cutting I am going to do and end the day with ground level stup cutting with my duller chains just before they go in for a sharpening.Pawn shops are a super place to get great used saws on the cheap. There are always Stihl's and Husqvarnas there at least in my neck of the woods.A lot of equipment rental places are always rotating out old used stuff and these places are good to look at also as the equipment has been maintained fairly well.I have had a Stihl 036 pro for about 14 years and it has been a super saw for me. It has a 20" blade but can handle up to a 36" if so desired. I like the pro series as they have high performance engines in a smaller easier to handle saw.
  4. Here is a formula on tire pressure. You need axle weight and itre information from the side wall. ((Axle Weight / 2) / Tire Weight capacity) x Tire Pressure Capacity = Inflation pressure My front axle weight is 4,440# Typical Load range E's 3,042# at 80 PSI ((4,440 / 2) = 2,220 / 3,042 ) = 0.72 x 80 = 58 PSI (Round up to 60) That simple. So doing the math on 4,440 and 2,860 for front and rear I typically inflate to 60 front and 40 in the rear. Hauling trailers its 60 front and 60 in the rear.
  5. Well finally picked my truck up yesterday and took for a test drive with my experienced alignment man. Truck is at least driveable and safe. Still not at 100% but def. can stand driving again. Also he is willing to keep adjusting he just wanted to know what quality I was specifically looking on my truck. On the test drive he at first told me he had done nothing since I brought it to him. when I drove my truck it only wondered about 10% of the time and it was a windy day so I was dumbfounded. Later He confessed to making several adjustments and WOW the truck is driving almost perfect.Truck has 169,000. miles on it at 110,000. I put on new upper an lower ball joints, Front springs for 2 in level, New front shocks, Track bar.I was told that every part of my steering system including the gearbox has some play not to the point of unsafe but when you add it all up with my wide tires I might be at the best driving until I fix and replace some items also with my offset rims and bigger than oem tires my truck rides on the humps of the road from having a wider wheel base. My plan is to over winter is to replace all the common wear items including the steering gearbox. In the spring get aligned again and I already know it will drive perfect. So thanks everyone, and for those who have a good vendor for the parts please share.
