  1. You guys watch tv and dvds when you go camping. I sit in my high up lawn chair and have a double woodford and watch beetle kill spruce burn in the rock pit while the the grand kids play in the clear bubbly creek throwing rocks etc like kids do
  2. I have a 1999 you might like but it’s in Anchorage Alaska 170 k meet you in Whitehorse Whats a good 1999 with 170 k worth down there in the lower 48 Not stock but 275 rv edge box e brake heavy tranny. I m thinking start at 18 k and maybe come down I see ratty stock ones go for 14k$ What’s the market like for them ?
  3. Tradesman. Ordered end of May . Called dealer today says build date is posted for September 5 th delivery mid September I’m starting to get a bit excited now
  4. They make led m4 company in I think three shades. Neutral white and something else. Go to their sight check them out. I think mine are white. Very nice I like them
  5. Actually just laying some heat tape up there is a wonderful idea. I will get some and give it a try. Get the snow load off etc
  6. Your right but why not buy 1 12 volt you get more amps ??? I don’t know if I got room in my bin I with measure it Lifeline battery for me next time if I can get one here and it fits the hole. Sorry I get my inverters and converters mixed up and my parallel and series always did its dc. I was a ac electrical lineman for 42 years I didn’t have much time to worry about. High voltage. Plus I knew you guys would remember right. Thanks Most lineman don’t even own a volt meter. But I do. Makes me very dangerous
  7. I think your right. A person would have to use some good sawhorse supports and a heavy duty tarp from a tarp company and make it pretty steep so it would shed. I send my 36 year old stepson up there with my trex porch shovel and he scoops it off a couple times a winter. And when we get a good warm chinook. Pineapple Express I put the 20 btu on in the middle of the day and get a pretty good run off hey I baby sit for free It’s payback right But you do need vent covers of some kind. Homemade or rv ones
  8. Yes I think he’s close to you. Very good idea.
  9. I only have a 1100 watt inverter. I didn’t know how much my 12 v battery would do. Why do you use 2 -6 volt battery’s paralleled together I presume. More amp hours ?.I could probably fit two in the bin interesting
  10. Yes your right my stepson and I had a heated discussion on this My bad sorry it’s a converter. 120 to 12v I have a 1100 watt invertor under my sink to make my coffee no running Honda or Cummins 12v to 120 v I wrote both of those down in case in have to replace. Thanks
  11. Yes that is always a big question should be a hour meter or something on them. What did the seller say? You would think it that many miles it’s had a rebuild or 2?right. So my 1999 has like 1970 k on it bought it new about 150 k ago I had a DTT tc and vb put in the installer was a racer as bill k was so they talked a couple times on the phone during the install But I will all ways remember one of the last things the installer said to me as I paid him and got the keys Wonder how long this thing will last It has a 89 % converter. Pretty stiff hook up hold on to your beer. So I think you most likely have been rebuilt. But was it a stock build or a custom performance. I think I would find a good shop. Work to find that sometimes have them drop the pan and do a look see also they can pressure test it I think maybe a new valve body etc and I see your in Oregon pretty close to bd in Canada. I think I would take a planned vacation and have tranny appointment with them for a couple days They can fix you right up
  12. A good topic. My local guy that builds them says it’s cover or not. Sometimes covering just holds the moisture in etc. a roof needs to be resealed from time to time. Every 8-10 years I’m told Also the sides maybe. My 21 year old has been taken apart literally and resealed about ten years ago. Much better sealer than when it was built. Cost about 1600$ not cheap but you can’t let water get in. My slide in is not a normal size so I sent a top notch company in California all the measurements for a custom cover. About $900 not to bad but I didn’t do it. Next spring I’m going to try to get him to coat the top with something so I can get another ten years out out of it. Reason I didn’t buy the cover is what a pain to put on and take off when your 71 years old. Could just do the blue tarp thing but there goes the neighbor hood . In most hoods here it’s ok but some won’t even let you park a camper or boat in your driveway so I think a good sealer will be the answer. There was another thread about this recently also cover or not ???
  13. Good topic for sure My battery is very heavy and barely fits the hole. It was a top of the line battery when I bought and expensive but has went 7 years in the cold. I do check it with the volt meter in the winter as I have had trickle chargers go bad before. I use battery tender 1.5 amp if I can get them I keep at least one spare around here. I don’t want to have to pull the battery out of that small hole at 30 below I was told that leaving the invertor for the camper plugged in cooks the battery. To hot . My camper is 21 years old. Certainly not a state of the art invertor now days. I can go in my camper and turn the lights on etc in the winter to let the battery cycle etc. I think this is a good idea also. I keep my slide in as close to ready to go as I can. We used to go snowmobiling etc it’s insulated with a 20 btu heater. A little much bit when your wet and cold its pretty nice . All my cars etc have trickle chargers on them or a plug to plug them in. Another thing I did a few years ago that turned out really good was to replace all the lights with led m4 cost about $90 much better bright white light It was really a nice now I can see to tie on my fishing lure before I go out the door
  14. I use a 1.5 amp trickle charger on mine and leave it in the camper all winter. I was told not to leave it on the invertor all winter I don’t know about that really. I used to take it out. Pain in the butt. Also bought a really good high dollar camper battery last time works great. Also I plug a small light bulb into the cord. So I can see the power is on gfi did not blow. Also I can see it’s on thru my ring doorbell when I’m not there. I do take a volt meter and check voltage thru out the winter. A charged battery cannot freeze. Also I can see the lit bulb out my front window. Tells me the powers on
  15. 7 year old Honda 50 hp jet Yes you might say he got hosed but really it’s not funny
  16. My neighbor recently went dipping for reds on the lower Kenai It is a jet. The lower river is pretty muddy and silty . The cooling system got plugged enough to make the motor run hot and it went into limp mode. It was always peeing but it would not come out of limp mode. When he got it home he put the hose on it and flushed it out . Then he took it to a local shop because he was worried something else was wrong. Typical new virus wait to get it in. Gets it back couple days late and the bill was 1140$ $54 for masks and gloves etc and 5 hours labor I believe. No parts one very small zip tie but they didn’t charge him for that. Never put it in the water and tested nothing. Is there something I’m missing here. No new impeller nothing. Does it really cost that much to flush a 50 Honda or was he seriously taken
  17. Very nice setup. You have put a lot of work in it. Definitely not in my skill set. Looks like we are both ready in our own ways.
  18. Went the money today Honda 2200 e Bluetooth brand new put 14 ounces of 10-30 Honda oil in it. Some brand new out of the pump premium gas. Opened the gas cap choke on eco off. Pulled the rope briskly. About 1/2 thru the first pull it was purring like a kitten. That’s why you spend the money and buy a Honda. Used my 1500 w electric heater to break it in. Load and unload. Burned half a tank. Fresh gas with stabil it’s ready to go pulled that stupid white fuel strainer out and threw it away. Also that thing so you don’t lose the cap. Might take a sharp knife and cut that stupid rubber magnetic flap on the two 3 prong plugs off . Good idea but highly in the way. Time will tell It will set in the corner of the garage with a black water proof cover on it. It’s my house gen. Also ordered a Hutch Mountain tri fuel kit. Natural gas propane gasoline . It will be installed etc tested and put away 5 20 lbs propane’s in the garage. 20 gallons outside by the door and the natural gas meter with hose connections around the corner I will be ready for my 33 winter in alaska earthquakes power outages ice storms I’m almost ready again warm dry and fed. That’s the ticket It’s like a insurance policy. Hope you don’t really need it but happy to have it if you do. Money in the bank to me.
  19. Yes I checked this some time ago. Mine was not in that range so no joy there. I think the first Honda gen was a 1000 w about 1998. 2000 w in something like 1999 and mine is a 2000 year bought spring 2001. It’s been a good unit always starts good. Been outside in some horrible bad weather. Froze to the gound in the morning. Had to boil water on the stove to get it loose. I dropped it one time in the garage changing oil. Slippery Hands broke the bottom corner off. Kept several freezers full of meat fish caribou moose etc good in a four five day power outage in the culdy sac. I strapped it on my Honda 4 w and moved it around the hood as needed. It ran the whole time just turn off more gas. Several of my neighbors bought one after that event.it’s a very necessary thing to have around
  20. Honda 2200 w Bluetooth $1100.00. Hutch Mountain kit about $300 this site priceless
  21. That was a good deal you got on the companion. We don’t get those kind of deals here. I walked by a new companion this spring at sportsman’s wharehouse. Called my buddy in Las Vegas who has a cabin in main bay by Cordova and it cost him just shy of 1100$ to get it and he was happy to have it. Supply and demand and the virus etc. so they make mainly two kinds now 2200 w eu One is standard two plug and dc and one is got Bluetooth and a co2 sensor for exhaust confinement. No dc charger. Bluetooth would be nice to shut it off remote etc. I expect to pay 1200$ Never ever used the dc charger on my old 2000 w in 20 some years. Your very right the 1350 btu is way to big more than I need. Coleman polar cub 9200 seems about right. I will use the old 2000 w up on the slide in and new truck and keep the new one at home. I’m putting a Hutch Mountain natural gas/ propane unit on it so when we have power outages earthquakes I can access three fuel sources . I will have a fitting on my gas meter and hose and regulator . Also I have 5 20 lbs propane bottles and keep 20-25 gallons of gas the car and truck full of fuel etc. when we had our earthquake a couple years ago the gas stations were full and you couldnt get in and kept running out . Two freezers mostly full. I have a plan and trying to teach my two step sons thru example to be ready in life is the best way I have a plan thanks
  22. Okay so old camper new truck time New truck hopefully means we can travel south out of Alaska say the beginning of October and be back like before Thanksgiving. Have grand kids etc have to be here for the holidays but it’s still a 6 week window. And we can’t be gone in the summer time Alaska is to nice in the summer so we need a ac in the old camper. Have a 14x14 inch hole with vent in roof and its wired for ac but didn’t really need one here ever. So a Honda 2200 watt with a Micro Air Easy start and a Dometic Brisk 2 in the roof. What Honda to buy the one with two 15 amp plugs or the one with one 15 amp and one 30 amp. I may have to plug in to a koa or something and not run the Honda . Also I want this Honda for my house. I have a double throw can run my hot water heat pump 1/2 horse and extension cords into the house for lights tv freezers etc We have natural gas heat so I would like to put a hutch mountain natural gas propane gasoline conversion on it. I keep 20 gallons of gas 5 bottles propane on hand spare diesel fuel for winter earthquakes etc power outages. My old Honda 2000 is now 22 years old and has served me well still starts good and runs fine but it’s got lots of hours one it has been running outside in all kinds of nasty weather so 2-15 amp plugs or a 15 amp and a 30 amp that’s the question. The Brisk pulls 13.2 amps running
  23. Ok my 2 cents Bosch 275 hp rv and a edge turned up is old school but it works. Stock turbo and and a bd e brake. 100 hp will wake it up just fine. Why reinvent the wheel. But if you had a auto instead of a stick that would be some major money to do the e brake and not kill the tranny. Gauges a must for serious pulling and hills etc. Then theres the fuel system that needs some attention also. You could spend more money but on a older truck with a lot of miles it’s really not needed. I think to much horsepower causes problems also. Something in the middle is the way to go. And stopping is really important. E brakes rule. Simple is always the best
  24. The severe duty Amsoil didnt say anything about having limited slip in. I have a couple bottles of mopar that should work. I will have to take a trip empty somewhere to run the gear boxes in I suppose before I can haul my slide in home from Palmer 45mile it needs to be about a 1.5 taller in the floor to clear the cab and side rails Camper weighs 3 k So single rear wheel should have a AAM 12 in the rear wont put new grease in until spring So do you remember Charlie Durand. I have a good story for you about him.
