  1. Went well. Left rear rotor was only 1/8" thick on the inside pad contact surface. But I was prepared with new rotors anyway. I had new emergency brake shoes, but upon inspection all that was needed was adjustment. Everything went without a hitch. Thanks for your input! I jacked on the shock perches and sway bar mounts. My new floor (gravel) jack has a nice rubber pad on the jack contact surface. I did one side at a time and adjusted the emergency brake so that the rotor would slip on without too much difficulty over the emergency brake shoes. Pedal sets mid position. Might need to tighten it a bit from the backing plate plugs, but for the way I did it it's really close.
  2. After 2-3 attempts at jacking with bottle jacks, I went down and got a 3.5 ton floor jack. I've got good jack stands too. Today I'm going to do rear pads, parking brake shoes and discs in the rear. Have metal on metal. Original rotors anyway. Big ridge on the outside edge where the pads do not contact. One problem with 4 wheel drive and automatic...will have to keep her in park and no rotation to adjust parking brake.
  3. There is a speed range on level ground at 30-40 or so where I believe this is normal. Mine does this too. Let off on throttle and it goes out of lock up, step on throttle and it locks up. It's annoying and I wish there was an ash way to stop this. But it only happens at low throttle and level ground like going through town at 30-35 mph speed limits. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I am going to change my rotors, pads and calipers. You guys have any experience with those pump up brake bleeder systems? One person tool, plus I can flush the lines out with it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. So, they are not vehicle specific? Which model do I want? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Where is the best place to order a scan gauge II? Looking for one for a 2001. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I'll look around the shop for something to us as a pusher. Good idea! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. You guys take a simple project and turn it into a nightmare. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. How much does an exhaust brake cost? For automatic transmission. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I appreciate the advice on the ceramic pads. Heat also leads to warping of rotors. I try to use aggressive trailer brakes. So when I am loaded, I brake as hard with the trailer as feasible. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I have a bad pad that's grinding. I'm going to do a full brake job later, but need to buy some time. I want to replace the pads. Any words of wisdom? I guess I need to lube the sleeves that mount the calipers and make sure they're sliding. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Oh no, don't tell me that. Deborah from Frantz told me to tighten it hard, but not so thought that you strip the nut. Half in or so of space between the ends of the band. Anyone ever need a replacement band? Should we have a spare on band? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Thanks guys. I think I was a little sloppy and didn't get the T bolt seated correctly and possibly didn't get the paper pushed in far enough. Lost about 3 quarts of oil all over the fender well, which is still dripping a little. Gotta clean up the mess now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Thought I got it tight. But now second guessing myself. Wondering about expansion of the filter medium. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I saw some oil drips on the road when I wet to the post office this morning. Looked under my truck (just to make sure it wasn't me) and to my surprise I had a big puddle under my truck. Had about 40 miles since I changed paper. The clamp came loose and popped off and oil was coming out between the can and base. Limped home and tried to tighten the filter, but it seems that it had expanded with oil and pressure. Would not re-seal. So I installed a new roll and now seems to be fine. But now I'm paranoid about it starting to leak again on a long trip leg and pumping out all the oil. Any words of wisdom? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Guess I'll just drill them into the bumper. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I was wondering about the 2002 issue. Seems to me that the 2002 should fit a 2001? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. NFab used to sell a bumper mounted 4 unit light bar for 2001. They no longer show it in their catalog. That was the only source I am aware of. Any ideas for mounting 4 Hella lights up front? 2 driving and 2 fog lights. Thought maybe there'd be some ideas here. I probably could just bumper mount them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Got my Frantz bypass filter installed. I am running the BHAF, so I mounted the filter in the same area screwed to the wheel well. I changed my oil and main filter at the same time. Had 10,000 miles on the oil and filter. Deborah tried to talk me into not changing my oil, but I had an aversion to that concept. Upon initial fire up it took a minute or two for the oil to start coming out the line to the oil fill cap. One it started coming out I was surprised at the volume. I assumed it would be less. My oil has never stayed amber color after oil change. It has had a dark tinge to it as soon as things started circulating after oil change. After a few days the oil is visibly cleaner than it was upon fire up. So I'm glad that the engine will be cleaning up. On a side topic. First oil change since doin the crankcase vent mod. My oil receptacle over flowed while draining oil for the first time ever. So I'm no longer loosing oil. Great mod! Thanks!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Anyone know the reason for paint peeling/failure on our trucks? Some do, some don't. I'm wondering if waxing on a regular basis would be a factor? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
  21. Alright I will just pull it out and not worry about it thanks guys. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
  22. You're not more likely to fry the paint on your hood? See a lot of these rigs where the paint is failing anyway. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
  23. Since a water pump failure the pad/insulator got soaked and sagged. Pulled away from the buttons or tabs. Anyone experience replacing it? Looks like I can get a new one for about $80. Wondering about larger tabs to keep it up better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
  24. Is it considered a good idea to replace the power steering hoses at the same time? My power steering is weak at startup at low RPM's. Wondering about a power steering upgrade while I'm at my vacuum pump reseal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
