I'm getting conflicting info. Didn't think that happened here. Lol. My system is stock 2001.5 2500. I have 2 units on my exhaust system. Front one is rectanglish about 14" square. Rear one is about 30" long and round. Some say the front one is a catalytic converter, others say muffler. Some say the rear one is muffler and others say resonator. If the front is a catalytic I should be able to cut it off without much increase in noise and improve exhaust flow. Do we need a poll to vote on which is correct? Lol.

Then it's got the long round unit further back.

So what's there rectangular unit up front?

If I take out the injectors, I'm puting bigger ones in. Suggestions for mild upsize appreciated. I'm never going to go crazy with hp. But would like to improve mpg. Don't want to raise hp so much that I start having to upgrade other things as a result. Need to find a catalytic converter delete pipe too. Anyone make a bolt on?

Johnathan1950 says it sounds normal. I still believe there is room to quiet it down. Maybe change out the injectors. Thanks again for meeting with me last week!

Which parts of the drivetrain should get a friction modifier? Do you have a specific brand?

People in my area are being hospitalized for dehydration. Can't keep fluids in. Almost every family is effected. Just worse for some than others. I am a Decon at my church. We will pray for your family if we can get a first name and town living in that would help. Joe

Maybe that's why dodge is selling more trucks. They sell real trucks. I'm approaching 200k miles, so I can be proactive and do the swap before mine blows up or after. Although I've had no issues, other than t/c going out. New t/c breathed new life into her for sure.

Met up with jonathan1950 today. He was in town on vacation. We spent over 3 hours talking about trucks. He did the nv4500 swap and is a big advocate of it for effort vs payoff. In looking for a donor truck...what age/models will work? V10, V8? I have a 24 vavle 2001.5. Seems like V8, V10's should open up my options a lot. Can I get my PCM flashed to turn it into manual transmission? Thanks Jonathan for meeting up with me. Great info and truck!

Other than the PCM, would a V10 with NV4500 work for all the other parts? Cross member, transmission, pedal and master? I see one for like $1,950 with 175,000 on craigslist local. Any idea what a good working auto trams with new t/c would be worth on the open market?

Just a short blip on my 2001.5 too.

No Trans problem and t/c is just over a year old and a low stall.

My hunting buddy just bought a 2014 diesel megacab. He's trading in a 1996 ford 7.3 diesel. Still costing about $50,000. Too rich for my blood. I like tinkering with my 2nd gen truck. Besides, hard to imagine a $50,000 work truck. Hope he's not disappointed. Any issues with these trucks?

They are convenient at times, but while towing I find myself under throttling to keep it from kicking down a gear. I like to lug a bit, but give it a little more pedal and verooooom she kicks into a higher gear. Since Trans swaps are expensive and time consuming. Is there any kind of mod that can be done to go through the gears manually? I don't even know what wide open throttle is. If I go that far it will go into a lower gear and rev up like crazy.

Have you done the puke bottle mod? I used to loose oil out the breather. Since doing the mod, I don't loose any between 10,000 mile oil changes.

Yeah, I've seen threads where people are arguing over it. May be part of the problem of whether to sleep with the heater on or not. I'm going to follow all precautions and sleep comfortably. Better off dead and warm than alive and cold. Lol.
