The Cowboy Way I have lived, loved, lost and loved again. Life is not easy, but - it is what it is . Cowboy rules for: Arizona,Texas,Oklahoma,Colorado,New Mexico,Wyoming,Montana,Utah,Idaho Alaska(too!) &, the rest of the Wild West, are as follows: 1. Pull your pants up. You look like an idiot. 2. Turn your cap right;your head ain't crooked. 3. Let's get this straight: It's called, a "gravel road." I drive a pickup truck because I want to. No matter how slow you drive, you're gonna get dust on your Lexus.Drive it,or get out of the way. 4. They are Cattle. That's why they smell like - cattle. They smell like 'money' to us.Get over it. Don't like it? I-10 & I-40 go East and West,I-17 & I-15 goes North and South. Pick one,and go. 5. So you have a $60,000 Dollar car. We're impressed. We have $250,000 Dollar Combines that are driven only 3 weeks a Year. 6. Every person in the Wild West waves. It's called: Being Friendly. Try to understand the Concept. 7. If that cellphone rings while a bunch of geese/pheasants/ducks/doves are a comin' in during a hunt,we WILL shoot it outta your hand. You'd better hope you don't have it up to your ear at the time. 8. Yeah.We eat trout, salmon, deer, and elk. You really want sushi and caviar? It's available at the corner Bait shop. 9. The 'Opener' refers to the first day of Deer season. It's a Religious holiday held, the closest Saturday to The first of November. 10. We open doors for women. That's applied to All Women;regardless of age. 11. No.There's no 'vegetarian special' on the menu. Order steak,or you can order The Chef's Salad and pick-off the 2 lbs. of ham and turkey. 12. When we fill out a table, there are Three main dishes: meats, vegetables,& breads. We use Three spices: salt, pepper, and ketchup! Oh, yeah... We don't care What you folks in Cincinnati call that stuff you eat; IT AIN'T REAL CHILI!! 13. You bring 'Coke' into my house,it better be brown, wet and served over ice. You bring 'Mary Jane' into my house, she better be Cute, know how to shoot, drive a truck, and have long hair. 14. College and High School Football is as important here,as the Giants, the Yankees, the Mets, Lakers and,the Knicks; and a dang site more fun to watch! 15. Yeah. We have Golf courses. But don't hit the water hazards- it spooks the fish. 16. Turn down that blasted car stereo! That thumpity-thump ain't Music, anyway. We don't want to hear it anymore than we want to see your boxers! ...Refer back to #1! 17. There's only One God and we love Him and worship Him. A true Westerner will send this to at least 10 others and a few new friends that, probably won't get it, but we're friendly so, we share, in hopes you can begin to understand what a Real Life is all about!!
  2. Hi and Happy T Day. I know this sounds stupid...but life brings us changes that we sometimes resist and then others that we just jump into with excitement. In the past we had a family of 5 here and death took it toll and now there is just Michael and I. T Day became a non-important event as I no longer wanted to fix/prepare/service it. I discovered the most wondeful thing abouta T Day minus the turkey....I packed up my camera, backpack, food and headed into the wilderness. There was NO ONE there...everyone was eating, tving, sleeping and I had the place to myself. I learned to track animals as the snow was fresh. The sounds carried for great distances and the crouger, deer, elk, moose, rabbits were all over the forest. The peace was profound. I took a twig burning stove with me and Mike and I had sausage and cheese in the snow with ice water running in the steams for hot tea. So a day that used to be family oriented became a hike in beauty and I look forward to Thanksgiving Day more so my "new way" then I did the "old way" with the stuffing, bird, etc. The memories will last forever. You get home now...throw on a couple t-bones, french bread, and a salad while you look over what you camera stored for you. We have read through White01's deep frying turkey and I'm happy for you. Keep it up and enjoy. I go another way...love moparmom
  3. Thank you Dorkweed for that post. I just copied it off to keep in my personal file. MoparMom

  5. Michael when you open your site tomorrow, let me be the first to say Happy Birthday. As always, it has been an honor and a pleasure to be your mother. Happy Birthday, son with a lot of love, Mom
  6. Gentlemen: you have reviewed the application of this young lady(?) sufficiently....now let move on to the real women. Take a read on this article of the Idaho women and print it out. Where it says,"Idaho" scratch it out and insert your state be it Tn, Wy, Mt. Hand it to your wife, girlfiend, daughter, etc and tell them "thank you." They will agree with me 100% and I dare any of you to argue that point. This is real womanhood. Anything else is a joke. http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2010/10/18/patrick-dorinson-real-housewives-maher-reality-tv-idaho/?test=faces
  7. Hi, Flman&wife, plus the pooch: I'm trying to find out about that plant for you , but remember, you're east-coast and I hike around on the west-coast. The higher in the elevation the scrawnier the vegetations gets....this plant is full and not skinny. You're hiking about 1500 elevation, so it's native to the terrain. I'll get it yet! I've got Pollack Mt., close to the house here and I' just short of making it to the summit which is about 8000. Getting to the top is not easy because of rattle snakes. The entire peak is granite and they sun themselves all day. That last mile has to be achieved in the fall of the year. What are those columns of stone from. Like Dorkweed said, Something happened there...but what? Mopar Mom --- Update to the previous post... ...I meant to say that ISX was curious about those columns too. Mopar Mom

  9. Last week my son and I decided to drive up to the Canadian border..just for the heck of it. So we departed the ranch at about 7AM and stopped in Lewiston for breakfast. At this point we had a choice of taking the 7% grade out of town and remaining on 95, but glancing at the map I locked into 27 out of Washinton. Having drived 95 constantly when you're going north it was the same old, same old. Once on 27 on top of the grade we entered into the most beautiful drive along the Wash. palouse(rolling hills of wheat) that resembled sand dunes as we traveled. It was breathtaking. We slowed through towns that were picture-perfect - small town - just quaint and lovely. Off in the distance every now and then I could get a glimpse of 95 maybe 6 or 7 miles across those hilly plains. We were entering back on to 95 south of Couer D'Alene and we left this peaceful drive and entered into the ususal jam packed traffic. Now here in came the shock...while on 27 I did not see For Sale signs on farms and homes. I did not see bars on windows to protect the place . I saw a little girl selling lemonade at a road side stand with her parents sitting on lawn chairs keeping a loving eye on her. I saw a couple walking their dog while pushing their baby in a stroller. I saw children playing in a park unattnede by an adult..because they were safe. I saw gentle people sitting on their front porches on their swings. I saw people chatting over fences to one another. I saw the America I love! Good people filled with love and enjoying the countryside that they live in. Once I headed north on 95 I saw none of this. Mike and I drove into Sandpoint..fighting the traffic and the throngs..and made it across the floating bridge into town. We ran smack into construction....and we turned right around and drove right on out of there...took 27 out of Spokane and went back into that peaceful setting. We gathered macro-economic data points (what we saw before our own eyes) and I can truly say, "keep your ostentatious casinos, your outrageous 24/7 behavior, your housing busts, your constant need to need one thing after another...I'll take the simple life in the country. God I love it. It was a eyes-wide open sort of a drive where you could see two different life styles. It was like jumping into l950 and back again in 2010. It was worth the experience.

Thank you for responding. I'd like to make a suggestion to you if I may. Since you hike when you can..get over to the nearest book store and get a book/manual of the plants in your area. Now just match the pictures and see what you come up with. I have taken little plastic bags along with me and just slip them into it and on the page of the book. I can read up on it later. To mark the spot that you found it you can use a few rocks, sticks, etc., until you get familar with the plant and see more of it.There is a real treasure trouve out there and it's all yours. Classify what you see and what you can eat. I don't see sick animals here and the stream beds are not lined with dead carcasses...so something beautiful is going on and it is meant to be enjoyed. We spend a lot of time in the wildernes and each day reveals something more wonderous.

...you get that feeling that things are going to blow up one of these days? Maybe so, but people are getting real edgy. Living in the wilderness area takes me away from that "flat lander" mentality. A lotta things that are being hyped/written out there have no validity to them. They trigger the stress and upsets that people are experiencing. The wilderness has always kept us well grounded and balanced. Let me explain something to you.....when you step foot into a forest you are entering the ONLY lawful enviorment in this world. Everything in that forest Obeys the Law of God...I repeat. It is truly a lawful enviroment that obeys the law of God. If you look at the trees..they all point to heaven. Look up! All plants and animals are feed, protected and nourished according to God's plan....not the forestry office. If you really want to take a quick look at what happens in that forest..mark off a foot square plot with a stick. Put a drop of water in it and a crumb of bread. Watch what happens in that square foot plot and you,ll see activity that you could not imagine. (Great lesson for the kids too.) Now image the entire circumference of the national forest and multiply that activity accordingly. A lot is going on under foot that you never stop to look at. Take a wild rose in you hand and observe the delicate details of it. Talk about artistry...wow! The forest contains all the herbs, vitamins, etc known to man...take time to identify them and use them. I call this forest gardening....plucking what God has provided and using it wisely. When you step into this lawful enviroment you experience peace and calm....thank Him for that. God bless. Now go take a hike and learn.
  17. You may be wondering what the overall economic picture is here in a wilderness area and I can say that it is very very quiet and no activity. Highway 95 has very little traffic on it and the camping and atving crowd is not here. Part of this picture can be blamed on the rainey weather, but still there is little activity about in the back country. The high country (6ooo ft) is out of the question because you still have a lot of runoffs and fast flowing streams. Not safe for anyone at this point. The people that are involved in white water rafting and not seeing any business. The are still fishing..but then they are always fishing year round. Another sign of the slow down is the ppolice/emergency scanner...there is little response out there. Things are very quiet. The economy has come to a rest!!!!!

Heeeehaw! If you love country music, you're A ok with me. I had Mike burn alot of old country on CDs for me and it's nice to listen to them going down the road. You can also scream to your hearts content with the windows down and no one hears you. Radio is no good here with their musci stations because they fade in and out as you wind through the mountains. Another thing about country music is that it always made a hellofalota sense.

Thank you, thank you! What a great site and your right ...I like it too. Mike and I think that grill idea is great. Simple and sweet. I'm going to go through those recipes later today. But it is a site that has a lot to offer. I appreciate your help.

There is a jim-dandy cooking stove that is advertised at Sportsmens Guide and it is one of those that you gather around with the fire going in the evening and everything is getting heated at one time. I just wonder if you have a better suggestion than this. Ya, I know about the Colemans and the grills, but this is one for gathering about when the sun goes down. Maybe you made one that is just as good if not better. I've got a problem with the packing and toteing around. The idea is great, but the space required for this has me thinking maybe not such a good idea. You have a better one? http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/guide-gear-campfire-cooking-station.aspx?a=527450

Gotta a problem. Does anyone out there have one of those truck/tents. You know the kind that hooks onto the frame of the truck so you can sleep in the bed. This little item has come up for some discussion here and living in the wilderness, I've got to go to all of you for a consumer report on this little gem. We want to know the pros and cons of the thing and what do you do with all your gear when you take it down. There has to be some pluses and minuses with this tent setup and we would like your feedback if you had some experience with it.
  24. Im just letting you know that I've been praying for you and Shelia every minute I can. I did not want to bother you with chit-chat as your life is filled with stress, worry, etc. The only remedy i can give you from Idaho is a lot of prayer..which you have. We fully understand what happens to you during a major flood. In 1997 right after Christmas it collapsed the canyon walls here and took out 3 bridges. Homes were in danger of mudslides and like you and Shelia we dug trenches around our home, the neighbors and re-routed all the new waterfalls that were springing up behind us. The house across the road was washed away in 5 seconds. Sleep was a blessing when one obtain any. The whole 95 highway had to be rebuilt over the next three years. Yes, we understand all the despair you are both going through and pray to GOD that you survive all this. Our love and concern always. Rosalie. Will chat when the water begins to recede.

Remember we said that we want the vendors to give us the cards to post if they had family members that were in business and needed the exposure here. We we talking about cottage industries, work from home, etc., anything that your sons, daughters, girlfiends, etc did that needed the advertising. SOoooooo! Send us the info and we'll advertise for me and hopefully generate a little business. The object is to not only help the vendors...but do help the entire family. This is for the premium members and vendors. Get busy.
