Serpentine Drive Belt - What is the best
FYI - I looked up my history and I have 8.5 years on my GATE K080810 and it started to chirp. I remembered Michael Nelson told me in 2015 "next time just rotate the belt to get rid of chirping" - so I did December 2022 and it worked! I am just deciding what to buy for a backup! My total mileage is ~116,000 and not sure if a new tensioner is needed, but then again it is becoming an ancient engine - in the thought of part replacement!

New member introduction/reccomended maintenance
I am not sure what a Drive Belt Adjust is?!?!?! I switched to Gates, because all my other belts would get tons of cracks. Gates does not crack, but it does create a metallic squeak as the belt groove shrinks. If you hear it, squirt water at the groove in belt. Belt grooves thin, leaving space and metal roller/pulley acts like the old phonograph records (vinyl groove and needle produce music). Water is a non-compressible thus it fills the groove and immediately no noise for 10-20 seconds. I cannot predict how many cracks in a belt before failure, but I can predict the metallic noise and a 2 yr warranty :-)

Replacement headlights
I have the instructions. Works perfect on my truck and Michael has personally look it over. Working fine sine March 2013. I believe specific to 1999 year. Image No Relay Jump 3-5 is part of Fog Lights on during High Beam. I am sure you can find the schematic for 1999 and your truck year with a little help from support group here. Cracked dash
Mine was replaced Aug 2012 and it required those darn screws in the dash outlets. I believe removing the window would have been the easiest option. I purchased an oem replacement dash and I was told plastic technology had changed since the original dash was made and this should last longer. Only time will tell.

'Rock Solid' Ram Truck Steering!
I would suggest you watch the steering box as it will flex on the frame during initial turning of steering wheel. I installed the DSS Steering Stabilizer (http://www.solidsteel.biz/) and the DSS Solid Track Arm Kit (or adjustable track arm) at the same time. I had both moving steering box and another failed joint on the oem track arm. This really firmed up the turning of the steering wheel and no more rut grabbing the front wheels and jerking the truck sideways, but I still have a little "typical" back & forth slop - it is either adjustment in the steering box or the rock solid bearing replacement. I am going with steering box adjustment first.

Boost 0.0 cold engine - 21.3 warm engine
Small correction Michael - There were some codes in the beginning, but it was P0236 and P0382 codes and I found the plug in control wire off. From the time I cleared it to pulling the MAP connector P0237 - cleared it - and after no codes. I check all the grounds to the body in the engine area. If anyone get time I would like to know your ohm measurements and socket size (determine if it is original or later Cummins part).

Boost 0.0 cold engine - 21.3 warm engine
Replaced the original sensor with new Cummins 492147 (Geno's Garage) and problem fixed. Look at the ohm readings of new and old and the opening size. Socket size: Old sensor 1 1/4 New sensor 1 1/16

Has anybody installed this without removing the steering column on an automatic? http://rocksolidramtrucksteering.com/ Looking for instructions and feedback.

Boost 0.0 cold engine - 21.3 warm engine
Codes do work. I pulled MAP connector and got a P0237. I pulled both MAP sensor and IAC. Both look really clean. Reinstalled and same problem. I did notice the BST at 0.0 until water temperature was 170'f, then BST jumped to 22.1. Temp rose to 202'f and then cooled to 190'f and stabilized at 195'f. Do anybody have a ScanGauge 2 that could describe the BST values they are getting? Thank you.

Boost 0.0 cold engine - 21.3 warm engine
No codes yet.

Boost 0.0 cold engine - 21.3 warm engine
There is no variable in these 2 values it is 0.1 (runs poorly) or jumps 21.3 (runs great).

Boost 0.0 cold engine - 21.3 warm engine
Anybody see a boost reading on a Scangauge II showing Boost 0.1 cold engine and 21.3 after it warms up? While cold it drives like a slug, but when warm drives like a dragster. Thanks for any comments.

How to define Ignition Switch issue vs. Starter issue?
The “Starter Click” came back and I made a call to Larry B to order his kit for installation. Larry told me his 98 24valve is having the same problem! Anybody have a comment on the 4,000 contacts or the "Click" issue?

Hi, I attached the manual. My Scangauge is still in updating mode - I am waiting for the 3rd and 4th fill up to see if it really works. Look for Scangauge in the "General Vehicles Discussion" section. Remember to select Diesel A!SGII-UM-601.pdf

Oil leaking out Crankcase Vent
I use the Fleetguard Enviroguard Kit since 2006 without a drop of oil form the vent. The vent is still there to vent the engine but all the oil drains back to the engine via a duplicate oil dipstick tube which is plugged at the factory. I am sure they will have a kit for your engine attached is my kit for 1998 -2002. My original problem was engine downward in our steep driveway - the oil would climb the gears on front of engine and deposit out the vent. - - - Updated - - - Edit: Also the other version. Click, click..
Images shows only one bad contact during my Click-Click this summer. I got a suggestion to sand the plunger and reuse it. Watch out for the little ball that falls out when removing plunger, sometimes it stays inside the starter. If you need them quick, try an AC/Delco distributor otherwise the Larry B kit possibly can come with heavy duty contacts.
