  1. I had a ford that was that way. If the gauge said 1/4 tank you were flat out! Lucky for me the day I found that out I was able to switch tanks and make it to the gas station.
  2. I stopped by Walmart today while I was out to get some two stroke. The only thing that they had was marine two stroke. Would that make a difference? I know it was pretty pricey! The cheap stuff was like $38 for a gallon.
  3. When I installed mine there is no contact between the filter and AC lines. I wasn't sure I was going to do anything to it, but I suppose it is cheap insurance...
  4. Well as far as I know the sender has never been out of the truck. I suppose it is accurate enough to use. I probably will not mess with it if there is no problem. After having a couple of non-functioning fuel gauges, reading empty with fuel left is not such a bad thing!
  5. Well that sounds exactly like what my truck was doing. And at first it was happening very little. I emptied the fuel/water separator and it did not do it for a while, most likely a coincidence. The white smoke started after awhile and only happened when i experienced the dead pedal. When i would give it throttle it would blow white smoke. I put a new VP and LP on it and have not had any problems since! It is like a new truck. Better mpgs and better passing power. Not to say it turned it into a hot rod, it just regained what it had lost.
  6. Well mine was a dead vp so it has been fixed already. I was just giving an example of what mine was doing to see if that helped
  7. When you try the key trick what does it display? Will it attempt to retrieve codes? What exactly is it doing when you get the dead pedal? When mine was acting up I would start it, it would have no power and wanted to stall when pulling off if I was not really careful. Had no acceleration and would not go over 30 mph with the pedal to the floor. At higher rpm it would blow a cloud of white smoke. It was just starving for fuel. If I went ahead a changed mine out before it put me down.
  8. I have seen a few that leak black smoke bad when they are clamped. Is this common or is it shoddy clamp work? Mine does not smoke but I still don't want a leaky exhaust!
  9. Ya it's the wants that end up costing the most...would that be cheaper than having one fabbed at a muffler shop? I don't weld so I would have to have it installed anyway unless its bolt on.Sorry for the double post. Lost service in the middle of the first one and it said it failed
  10. Ya it's the wants that end up costing the most...would that be cheaper than just having one fabbed at a muffler shop? I don't weld so would probably have to have it installed anyway.
  11. Awesome one less thing to worry about! I am still trying to convince the wife that I really do need a new exhaust...it's been a hard sell ?
  12. That sounds like a dead vp to me! Does it blow white smoke when you get the dead peddle? I would imagine that the damage was already done when you replaced the LP
  13. Well then I suppose mine is a 34 gallon. Any idea why the gauge reads that way?
  14. Well i suppose that i do have a 36 gallon then. i just had a hard time believing that the fuel light would come on with 200 miles of fuel left! i am a little paranoid about keeping fuel in my vehicles though so it is unusual for me to even let the light come on! but if that is the case maybe i can relax a little on the fill ups...
  15. i am a little confused by this. everything that i read says that my truck should have a 36 gallon tank as standard equipment. but i have never put more than 26 gallons into an empty tank. was there an option for a smaller tank? when the fuel light comes on surely there is not 10 gallons left? i am curious if my guage/sender is reading correctly.
  16. Ya I remember a few years ago I was living in the Nashville area and people were stealing them off of cars. But selling it is not a bad idea as long as I won't be needing it to pass emissions testing. If I will need it then I'm probably better off doing like mike said. What is to be gained by rodding it out? Better mpgs, power, lower egts? I know that it was good for a few ponies on my old car but that one is old enough it is emissions exempt
  17. is there any benefit to a cat-delete? also does anyone have experience with the high flow cats? i live in an area where i have to be emissions inspected once a year. but they dont typically check for the cats. on an obdII system they just hook it up to a scanner. would removing the cat show on the scanner? i know on gas engines it will often throw a code.
  18. That is correct the way that i understand it. however when the injectors pop it injects a greater amount of fuel and therefore more power. The injection pump still supplies the same pressure it just has to provide a greater volume at that pressure. for that reason i have wondered if increased size injectors might tax the vp44 beyond its capabilities?
  19. this is one i was considering starting. i have read a ton of stuff on injectors but have never satisfied myself on what injectors i should use for my goals. i am shooting for MPG more than power and would not be interested in exceeding approx. 300 HP. this whould be a good one to keep and eye on!
  20. So the power service is a cleaner? I was under the impression that it is just a general lube additive and cetane booster... I am new to diesels though and don't want to jeopardize that new vp-44! I know that I would never run carb cleaner in every tank of gasoline though so that makes sense.
  21. Well if I get that AND get to hear the turbo more then that's good enough for me!
  22. I finally got my BHAF! I got the WIX 42790 from car craft for $30! I priced them several places and just could not beat that. I love to hear the turbo sing! I will have to wait until that wears off to notice any gains elsewhere...
  23. Thanks guys for all of the great information! So two cycle oil is the additive that you would recommend? I read an article somewhere that highly recommended power service diesel clean. That is what I have been running but I really don't notice any difference in mpg or power
  24. So if I understand that cetane is bad then why are cetane boosters sold as fuel additives?
  25. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that there are contact points on the fork that can wear out. If they were to wear far enough I can see them not engaging properly
