  1. Land near NoDak is Gawd forsaken! Down in the Cities here....and VERY new to the forum (posting wise at least, you'll see way more of me as my next project gains momentum).
  2. MnTom: I'll have to get back to you on condition. This was a friends truck and I bought it for the powertrain and din't really care about the interior. I'll see if I can get some pics or something. It will be a few weeks till we actually get it towed to the shop (still too much now up in Stillwater) from where it's stored right now.
  3. MnTom: I'm pretty sure most of the interior (as well as all the body panels) will be going away as it won't fit in the 51 cab. So far all I can think of that I'll be keeping is the steering and signal stuff. MAYBE the climate controls. Beyond that...no need for any of it. JAG1: yah, I originally was going to do the suicide rear half doors on both sides, but backed away from that for that exact reason. I'm doing research on how to get enough steel on that section on the drivers side to keep flex/sags at bay. I'll be adding around 18" to the cab. As for FEF's coloring, that was the stock look in the day, it cost an extra $5 to get the bed painted the same color as the cab, or about $50 in today's dollars.
  4. Spring in the Cities at least! yes a 4WD chassis, I've seen one like this done (minus the cab stretch), a tow truck near Marshall, MN. This is "FEF" a full frame off resto of my great grandfather's truck: This is the concept drawing for "TODD" When I tear down the '94: any hints? Tricks? Most of the parts won't be used so if anyone is looking for something off the truck not related to the power train I'm sure a deal could be made.
  5. Spring has sprung here in Minnesota, so in a few weeks I'll be able to haul my '94 to the shed to get working on it. I posted WAY back when I first found this forum on my build plans. I'll start here again to bring everyone back up to speed. First off, is this the right part of the forum to post a "build" thread? If not please direct me to the correct location. thanks I restored a '51 Pilothouse B3D truck that was my great grandfathers truck. I seem to have a disease now, lots of old truck parts in my house, garage and at friend's sheds. I decided a few years back I was going to take a modern powertrain and graft on a Pilothouse cab/front clip as a daily driver. This truck will be a stretched 3 door cab flat bed stake side hauler style truck. I've got all the old Pilothouse cabs and doors to cut apart and re-weld up to the stretched cab. As well as all the doors I could need to make the 3rd door and fill the space behind the passenger side door. The '94 has a fresh rebuilt tranny and about 150K on the engine. I've been thinking that since it will all be available to work on, going thru the engine and rear end would be a good idea right now. Before I start to tear things off, any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Plans include air ride, saddle fuel tanks, rear duals and a tip up front end like a semi for engine work. thanks, I look forward to keeping this thread moving over the course of the spring/summer while things start under way.
  6. what do you think the MPG vs. HP might be?
  7. wow, never knew those existed, in China or in BC, but I'd agree with the one caption that someone was playing withthe contrast/saturation a bit to get them THAT colorful.
  8. those high steel guys are nuts! NEVER catch me up there w/o my parachute! It's amazing what can be done when one is motivated! Nice pics!
  9. can you tell if there is any tiger striping, or any other grain enhancments? Plain straight up BW in 2' logs you could start at $100 a chunk and negotiate from there I'd say. If you got s special grain going...it goes higher. All depends on what they'd want to use the wood for. Gun stock, turn some bowls ets.
  10. as a previous poster pointed out, BW is spendy if it is in long lenghts. Here in MN it runs about $8 a boardfoot. I build furniture for play/toy/truck money and unless it's "rustic", it's not good for furniture (too short). If there is some good grain patterns people will pay good money for a gun stock, but that pile would make a LOT of gun stocks. Sadly, it looks like most of it will be firewood. It burns with a nice sweet odor (to me at least).
  11. feel lucky, my next door neighbor has a "condition", I cna't rmember the name (alopetia?), that ALL his hair has fallen out...the meds to keep it just wasn't worth the side affects. When he moved in he had a full head, now he doesn't have even eyelashes! I'm also gaining my father's eyebrows.....if you can believe it, if I let them grow out, they can actually get split ends! I once let them go to over 1.5" long...needless to say the g/f DOEN'T like it when I do that!
  12. well, it's been a few days and I heard no dissent, so if you are interested you can follow my journey on the restoration project at the link below. Lots of pictures during the progress of the project and no sucking up space here by posting stuff. See if you can find the diesel Dodge in the pics...one of my favorite pics taken that day. http://p15-d24.com/topic/26461-ggdad1951-truck-project-montage/?hl=montage
  13. is it migrating to your back like mine is? I've gotten to 45 w/ a fair amount of hair (especially compared to my brother and my nephews) but I think it's starting to catch up on me finally. If it gets too thin, buzz cut or shave for me. No comb overs for this kid. From a heat trransfer standpoint your head is a HUGE heat sink/rad. So maybe the free convection is making it feel warmer?
  14. I can point you to my '51 build thread on a different forum if you are interested, but I didn't do it off the bat JIC that is frowned on here. Gotta learn how this place works you know!So a general question for the "old timers" here: do you prefer a thread to be started on a build (with all the attendant questions/answers as well as progress) so you can follow it through and such, or break it up and keep a build thread to just the build progress and keep the questions seperate? Because I DO have questions!
  15. Seems the "thing" to do, introduce yourself! So "hi!". I found this forum from the DodgeForum.com groups. Long story short I pretty much just finished restoring my greatgrandfathers 1951 Dodge B-3-D truck, and decided that I needed a new project. So, after kicking ideas around I decided the buy my buddy's 94 2500 diesel and figure out how to make it old and new at the same time. So I'm taking 2 51-53 cabs and sticking them together in an extended cab configuration with a stake side flat bed. I'm just starting on this project and I like to plan (less suprises later?) so started searching the net for places that might be of help, and this is one of the places I landed. Here is some eye candy for you to see what my past work turned out like:
