  1. Well.. I got rid all the leaks except for the one on the sensor. It seems to be coming form the threads on the sensor to the mounting nut. Not sure if I should just try and crank it down (don't want to break it) or back it out? Is there a sealant I should put on the threads? Or teflon tape? I think the dynamics of the way the truck drives has changed in a positive manner.. a little more pep. I also changed my air filter from the oiled to a paper with a wrap on it. The turbo seems a little quieter. Does this mean a little less air is getting through?
  2. Cool on the driving part. I think I've seen just about every technique on youtube. I think I'll try the vise and sockets routine. Got it.. showed sanding them in the videos to remove burrs. thanks
  3. I'm going to attempt to get the driveshaft out tomorrow and see how far I get with removing the u-joints. Any advice or tips? If I get stuck.. I can bring it to a friend of mine. It's my understanding.. if I need to.. I can drive the truck with out the front driveshaft.. correct?
  4. So.. you want me to try Edge on 5/3 and 4/3 or 5/4 and 4/4 etc... right? Here's another time.. don't remember what it was set on.. I think it was 3/3 with overdrive off Isn't the high pitch turbo annoying? It is when you hear it for 7 hours one way and 7 back.. lol I don't think it came with a silencer ring.. there doesn't appear to be anywhere for it to set in the turbo.. could be wrong tho... What happens after each PSI on each level? Do the flood gates open? :-) So how do you know when there's too much or too little? How do you know when it de-fuels?
  5. No buck.. just seemed to drop off suddenly
  6. Well.. I only had time this morning to tighten the upper clamps this morning. The 2 bolts, boost plug and 2 lower intercooler still had those minor leaks. I decided to see if it changed anything.. Edge was set to 5/3 It reached around 41 psi. This is a first. I read that this turbo was capable of 40. Then I tried it set to I think 4/4 and it did that "turbo bark?" noise I was telling you about. I didn't let off the pedal when it happened. Not sure why. It seemed like it happened when it was shifting. I also have a question about the Edge and fueling. How do you know what to set the edge for fuel? How do you know when you have too much or too little?
  7. Thanks for the info! I stopped using hairspray back in 77 I believe ;-) Is there an automotive product that'll do the trick? Still would like to know how all those little leaks effect performance? EGTs? MPGs? Or nothing really accept boost dropping off under load? Just trying grasp and understand. Thanks!
  8. Okay.. I have just a few boost leaks :-) So will all these tiny leaks effect what happens to boost under load at say 30 psi? Does effect anything lower? How about MPGs? The intake bolts seem to be tight.. Do I need a new gasket? What is the plug and how do I fix that? I tightened the clamps under the turbo which seems to have taken care of that one. Both intercooler hoses leak. Will attempt to tighten those later as they are in a tight spot...
  9. I take pictures of everything :-) Do I just post it in a thread or is there an article place to do it?
  10. Okay.. thank you. I will check for boost leaks tomorrow. I didn't see any problems with the turbo compressor wheel... I spun it and there isn't noticeable play. I don't know if it's a characteristic of my turbo but it seems to whistle constantly. It was a little annoying on my 800 mile round trip last weekend.
  11. and.. what it something similar happens if you don't let off the throttle? Or what happens when you reach max boost?
  12. I'm not sure how to explain it correctly.. it seems to sound like a flapping sound with air and it falls off... btw.. I hit like 34 once but never pushed it again
  13. Okay.. cool. I don't know if I have any problems. It seems to build boost easily but something weird happens up around 30. I don't know what kind of boost number I should be able to hit with my set up.
  14. Umm.. my boost tester came with a valve stem. I changed it over to quick connect because based on my searching the pressure needs to be constant. I'll try again tomorrow. Is 20 PSI too much to test with. My compressor is difficult to regulate much below that....
  15. Well.. I took it apart last night and following the instructions to clean the contacts with an eraser plus apply a little dielectric grease to the prongs.. it worked beautifully today with the softest touch! See how long it lasts :-)
  16. Thanks for the info!
  17. Good evening, Can someone tell me when doing a boost leak test... should the system stay pressurized if you have no leaks? Should your boost gauge rise to the pressure you apply? Thanks!
  18. I found a thread over the other forum on taking it apart.. going to try that first. Thank
  19. Thanks.. I guess it can't be taken apart to clean contacts maybe?
  20. I am having a problem with the overdrive button. Most times I have to press it numerous times to get it to engage. What's the fix?
  21. in the vehicle editor I see mass air flow rate, intake absolute pressure and direct fuel rate. Which should I choose and what does it mean? volumetric efficiency is defaulted at 65
  22. Well.. I'm pretty sure it's it. With it running.. I got under there and when I hold it to where I think it's centered.. very minor vibration. When I let rest loosely it vibrates like crazy. So.. question.. How hateful is it to pull it, replace u-joints and put back in? I know I need to keep everything lined up for balance but I heard that the back side with 2 u-joints may have something between them that makes it difficult? Thanks!!!! And.. I'm pretty sure I want grease-able but which brand do you recommend?
  23. Well.. I sure hope so.. as it's buggin the heck outa me!
  24. THANKS for the replies!!! I had 2 mechanic friends look at it and found nothing obvious. Both said it's not hateful lol. But.. I know it's there ;-) I just went out and looked around some more around the tranny, drive shaft and transfer case. I was maneuvering around by grabbing onto the front drive shaft and it moved a little. I grabbed a hold and shook it. It rattles pretty good with I'd say close to 1/8" of movement in the u-joints at the transfer case. Something tells me this should not be... ? Is this my vibration?
  25. I just got one of these... Is there a tutorial on how to set it up? I have no codes.. yay! It says "not available" for VIN Do I choose "Direct Fuel Rate"? Volumetric Efficiency???
