Exhaust brake help/decision
Unfortunately.. It's not close enough for me to look at. So the compressor runs full time? I have enough annoying noises/rattles/etc to listen to lol

About Time
Is your seat completely shot? Have you tried using a steamer to reform the foam?

Exhaust brake help/decision
Hey all... I have been wanting to add an exhaust brake since I took owner ship of my truck. Would be especially nice when towing my camper. Anyway... I know I will need a torque lock controller. The opportunity has come about for a used Pacbrake. It is off an manual.. so no controller.. but does come with a compressor and tank.. don't need it just a bonus. All parts appear to be around 7 years old and seem a bit used/weathered/rusty (see pics) My question(s)... would the age or weathered/rust bother you? Do they wear down/out? Everything will cost around $500 plus the road trip... Another thing.. I asked if it was 3 or 4 inch.. he said it looked like 4 inch. I have a 4 inch down pipe.. so I assume it'll work?? Will I need to cut my down pipe to insert this?

Having trouble getting my Scanguage calibrated
Good luck with your swap... hope you like it. I'm liking the Smarty and it's flexibility. Hope you don't regret it..........

Having trouble getting my Scanguage calibrated
I guess it's the difference of a manual over an auto.. on 9 with torque set to 2, timing 2 and duration 2.. I get a little puff at heavy acceleraration. Or this 2K turbo. I hardly get any smoke with the comp on 5x5 either....

Having trouble getting my Scanguage calibrated
I never tried SW1 lol... tried 3.. then went right to 7 and then 9. I don't feel much of a difference between 3 & 7. Is your tranny stock?

What settings do you run on your Smarty?

Having trouble getting my Scanguage calibrated
You are not looking to wire tap and even suggested going less on injectors. You want to switch from the Smarty to an Edge so you can micro manage and have the ability to switch on the fly. You are basically going to have the same power as what you have now... I don't think you will be doing a whole lot of switching on the fly.. unless you tapped the pump.

Having trouble getting my Scanguage calibrated
I'm not sure if you are missing much... If you were to wire tap.. i'd say yes.

Having trouble getting my Scanguage calibrated
But you know it consumes fuel.. don't you? ;-) I guess I don't understand the need to micro manage.. lol

If I wasn't already trading my comp for a smarty locally.. I would have traded with you. What is it with the scan gauge that cannot be calibrated?

Best built tranny for towing?
So.. it's mostly in the valve body? Does the triple disc play a part as well?

Best built tranny for towing?
I bought my truck with this "built" tranny... built for supposedly 8-850 hp. The snap at each gear is somewhat annoying.. alleviated somewhat.. if I guestimate when it's going to shift and back off the throttle for a softer shift. What can I do about this? Find another tranny and have it built to better suit my needs? Adjust this one somehow? Let me know... please.

I have a Smarty to play with for a couple days
A little more driving today and I'm really liking it.. and leaning heavily towards trading my Edge for the Smarty. Unusual.. I know.. to go backwards in hp.. but I feel.. for me the truck handles better and I have more control. I must be getting too old ;-) I suppose I could compensate the loss with a little larger injectors and turbo.. no? I also like that my speedo is accurate now. So.. that should correct the odometer.. yes? I don't see anything in the settings for high idle though? I know Wade came over one day and gave me high idle with his Smarty.. but maybe is was a different model...

Testing Alternator for noise
Okay... thank you!

Testing Alternator for noise
I think you are right.. guess I need a better one. Thanks

Testing Alternator for noise
I set it to the 2000mV setting at the 9 o'clock position on my meter.. That's what I read in a thread on CF.

Testing Alternator for noise
If I tested my alternator correctly... touching the positive probe of my multimeter to the big black wire on back of alternator and negative probe to the negative post of the battery.. with my multimeter set to 2000mV... I'm getting a reading of 1. Does not fluctuate or anything. Is this okay or am I doing it wrong?

I have a Smarty to play with for a couple days
I agree.. It's way different than the Edge at higher rpms/speed. If I try it stacked.. I might want both! lol When I probably only need one or the other. Anyway.. I think you meant even numbers... Thanks again

I have a Smarty to play with for a couple days
Thanks CSM... I will be playing with it some more tomorrow. I've only had a few hours to play with it but in that short time.. it seems that it would be a better choice for towing. I might hook up the camper over the next couple of days to test. If I like it... call me crazy but... I might trade the kid my Edge for the Smarty. I don't really need the go fast part that comes with the Edge and feel like it might get me in trouble sometimes :-) If the Smarty would be better suited for towing.. that's what I'm after. Another thing.. my "lie-o-meter" has gone up a mile.. so if it gets me better mileage.. bonus for me.

I have a Smarty to play with for a couple days
I understand. thank you I played some more.. by changing the level from 7 to level 9 and also moving the torque management setting up to 3. IMHO... there was a major difference. Quicker response and more pep.. Not sure if it was just the level 9 setting or if the the torque setting had anything to do with it. I believe (based on my research) that there is no torque management in my truck. So is the torque setting even doing anything? I was getting more smoke in level 9.. I think that I read the duration setting plays a part in this but not sure. I turned it down to level 7, torque 3, timing 2 and duration 1. This seems to be a decent setting with no smoke but I can definitely tell a difference between 7 and 9. I believe I read that one should not tow with added timing... so.. would it be okay to tow in SW8 (stock timing)?

I have a Smarty to play with for a couple days
I played with the Smarty a little.. Started on level 3.. timing set to 2.. duration set to 2 and torque management set to 2. Then I changed it to level 5 and left the left where it was (not sure if you need to change the other settings for each level or they carry over?)... then changed it to level 7. I don't feel any more power on take off than I do with the Edge. It's a damp morning and I couldn't get the tires to spin. There is definitely way more power with the Edge up at higher speed. What I like about the Smarty is that it is more subtle... my boost doesn't sky rocket and EGTs seem to be a little lower. I have more playing to do.. I don't know exactly what each setting (timing/duration/torque man) does or how they correlate or what the highest setting I would dare to choose.. I don't wanna blow anything up. If I stomped on it I got a little black smoke but cleared up immediately. Here's a little video of my dash and gauges going though the gears.. moderate throttle. I think you can tell how snappy the tranny is in this video... it snaps like this with light throttle too. A little annoying.. it just feels like it's hanging and shifting too late to me.

Is this a TV cable thing?
Okay! Thanks!

I have a Smarty to play with for a couple days
Something tells me I'm going to be disappointed with this Smarty.. especially ran by itself. Seems like it might be a lot of work to find something you like. Opposed to just pressing a button on the Edge.

I have a Smarty to play with for a couple days
Thanks for the info. I'm wondering how boost will react.. I can easily achieve 42psi with the edge. Will the same be so with the Smarty?
