My truck almost killed me today, Don't look if if you don't like seeing carnage
Glad you're OK, I NEVER leave my truck in gear when parking,(in fact I hate it that every tech/tire guy does) but I've got a unique situation, no neutral/clutch safety switch, ( I do have a toggle switch that does interrupt the starter circuit, but that's usually to complicated for most tech these days) and the starter will start my truck in gear. Very useful one time when the clip that holds the clutch rod to the pedal popped off in CT in a traffic jam, I think I started it 10+ times before I could get off an exit, 5 min later clip on, back on the road. Since then I fixed the problem. Now this is scary! Had a World Cat 230 DC about 6500lbs behind me. Accident in Tucson.MOV

Beautiful drive, been through there before, What's that area called north of Quemado with the Rock formation that you have to wind around, we stopped at that rest are on the N. Side for "Selfies" Wife's big on that. Your head gasket is missing a few holes.

Blown Head
Sure it was me? (sarc) Should have honked, we go through there quite often. We went through Snowflake a fews mo's back, decided to go east on US60 instead of going up through Payson, over to Quemado? and then up to I40. just for a change of scenery.

Original gasket? Mine leaking and not because of old coolant. If not original what brand? 100k, how many yrs? Is it the miles or the age? Never had a Cummins gasket leak, I know this is against the book, But I reused my head bolts 3-4 times, never a leak, when I did my restoration, bought new OEM bolts, Mahle Gasket 1 1/2 yrs 150K leaking like a sieve, going back to Cummins for the gasket, and ARP head studs this time. Had a u-joint fail, 12 east of Ellensburg,WA,e cost me mor than I want to admit, time down, lost revenue, motel, food. Decided to get my old FSO8406 remaned by Inland Truck, and rebuild rear diff. Had to pull the cab to get trans out. Puzzles apart hope I can get Humpty Dually back together right.

Water in fuel???
Mike, I get fuel a various location across the country, usually at a Walmart/grocery store fuel station. Really bucks though when it does it.

Water in fuel???
Several weeks ago I washed my engine, something I've done many times before. later the engine would spit rapidly out out the blue, water in fuel light came on, code came up for heater grid low voltage, and TPS/APPS, connection was loose on intake heater grid. Figured maybe water got in connections, so I put dielectric grease on all connectors. Happened intermittently after that and pulled the APPS/TPS code, so found a module from Freightliner , (I made the timbo wire mod previously), still get the rapid "spitting" it seems after fueling a low tank, have added Howes Fuel lubricator that's supposed to remove water. Ran it till Fuel light came on, and poured a whole bottle in, gonna run that till I'm almost dead empty, see what it does. Any suggestions welcome.

Hydroboost problems
Seems like the main problem on these is the seal for the piston, and maybe the valve sticking. I hope.

Hydroboost problems
This unit had set in my garage for 10 plus year, was kinda gummed in, tried loosing up with carb cleaner. good thing I have another core.

Hydroboost problems
So still dealing with Hydro-boost problem, went and replaced pads, Pass side missing one caliper bolt, other broke????? Not back on the rubber yet to see if that was some of the problem. Skeptical, because 1ST problem was power steering fluid loss, and eventually found the Hydro-boost leaking. Anyway bought the Pirate Jack rebuild kit, wants me to cut the brake pedal shaft to install seals on regulator? shaft, maybe I bypass those, anyway couldn't get the tiny valve body out, used air to push it out, lost the check valve ball (not really a good day) have another core, be more careful on it.

Trac-Loc Clutch replacement
I think I'm going to just service it this time, all the gears, R&P/spiders look good. Trying to clean some of the sludge that has built up over the miles out, then have some Lucas SYN 75W-140 and Trans X LSD additive to go back in. I'm starting to wonder if my rear springs are causing the shudder/chatter I'm hearing, all the pads between the leafs are gone, I can see a slight ridge between leafs, I had ordered a new set of #8800 springs to install, going to see what that does..
-
Trac-Loc Clutch replacement
Let me know how it goes. Found that last time I used Lucas 85/140 It supposedly has the additive in it.
-
Trac-Loc Clutch replacement
Are you talking about the Clutch carrier needs to have pressure when separating?
-
Trac-Loc Clutch replacement
I think last change was with Castrol Limited slip gear oil 90/140, Was supposed not to need additive, after chatter started added 8ox of additive, no change. Opened cover smells burned.

Trac-Loc Clutch replacement
See I always thought regular Diff's Non Limited slip rotated in different directions. Anyway $275 for clutches VS $750+ and having to R&R ring gear, and that I just started feeling this, after 20years and 950K seams like less work and $$$$
