  1. Made the switch to a 2001 6-speed, so happy I did. The majority of my problems were from the Auto. My truck wants to go now, no more EGG SHELLS! Dave
  2. Actually, now that you mention it, I'm doing the same in my truck. W the Rotella if I open the fill cap & look inside it looks like a new engine, so perfect there! But my Wife's & our DD's require syn so I run it in both applications, I like the longer drain intervals. Thanks, Dave
  3. That makes me see PINK! What a scam!!!!!!!
  4. Agreed, low fuel would be blessing!
  5. Oh man, did you get it pulled out? I wouldn't leave it like that if it were mine. So Sorry, Dave
  6. So it's not the AG fuel that's bad, it's the situations that it's exposed to? Thought the dyed fuel had more sulpher in it! The VP44 is a weak link & all the early electronics that go with it! So the bigger automatics aren't good either?
  7. So who's right here?
  8. Wow I did not know that, I thought these were the engines to run BioDiesel in but since that fuel attracts even more water, probably not!
  9. I sold my truck camper on ebay to a guy that bought it w an 04 reg cab 6-speed 2500. I believe the 3rd gens to be a muck beefier truck after crawling around & checking it out!. His 2500 didn't even drop after putting it on, w my 3500 it was considerably lower, my mud flaps would drag at times. Mine could have used some air bags when it was loaded down/up! I'm keeping mine, but what problems do the CR's need tweeked? Our 24V's needed tweeked too, don't think I'm done geting it yet! Dave
  10. What's that old saying?...........................With friends like that, who needs enemies! I know there just messin w ya! Think my Dad used to say that, Dave
  11. Thanks for the info, that's how I've been starting my truck now, Dave!
  12. I wonder if the low smoke feature in the 2-cycle oil slows the smoking?
  13. So is it better to start the truck in N w/o the clutch or better holding the clutch down? I never really thought about it like that Rancherman. While shifting, I sometimes even double clutch. Dave
  14. Agreed, that's why I was able to spring for all the parts to do the swap. Next I have to get a boost & an EGT gauge! No I didn't, almost every car & every truck now, I've ever owned has been a stick. So a conditioned response is to put the foot on the clutch even before the key goes in. My Wife will drive it sometimes & she loves to shift as much as I do! She is conditioned to just pust in the clutch. I don't think I could lend my truck out either, I go w the truck! One thing I will miss is by pushing in the clutch it will disengage the cruise control feature that's been in some of my cars! Dave
  15. That's the way it was for me when I bought this truck back in 08. A manual was way out of my budget, so I had to settle for an automatic. At least I was able to purchase a Dodge w a Cummins in it. But the manual is the way to go for a work truck/tow vehicle. Dave
  16. Totally agree! I did find two guys close by that would be able to rebuild my 6-speed when the time comes, I'm pretty easy on it though. My driveshaft is a one piece, non-4x4. Tried to do a two piece but it was cheaper to run 4". Had a few issues w the South Bend slave unit, but they stood behind their product, works great now. I had a slight vibration w the rebuilt Auto, all gone now w the new set up! Happy Motoring, Dave
  17. Hi all. I'm lovin it! Just wanted to give an update on my 1st thousand miles w the 6-speed swap. Been moving lots of hay & just got back from another vintage camper rally,(Glamping is what the call it, the Wife had it pretty loaded up) 250 mile round trip on mostly 2 lane hilly roads. Right at the 50MPH speed that would give my old 47RE fits. Either dead pedal or 4th gear hunt. Amazingly, no issues. I was pulling a 1968 16' Comanche trailer, single axle. 6 Speed Mcqueen
  18. If I'm driving lazily down my 2 lane country road I'll do that, but if I'm getting on a heavy traveled road, I'll use all the gears even if I'm not towing. I grew up during the 1st energy crisis back in the 70's, they used to say the fastest way to High gear was your best mileage. (2,4,6, method) Dave
