Got a 5th wheel to move tomorrow
Got a message over the weekend asking what I would charge to move a 5th wheel for someone ( I do advertise this) I put a cost in that I thought the guy would say no to..... really busy and lots on so wasn't too bothered really..... guy snaps my arm off It has been used while a house build was done down in the south west, I've got to move it to a film set on a racecourse 325 miles away, hopefully I won't regret this

Oil leak after vp44 replacement
Some stuff I work on can be done 1000's of hours work with no speedy sleeve available or the machine needs to work "NOW"..... always the same with owners/operators it could have sat idle for weeks but as soon field service arrive to start a job it's needed yesterday if no sleeve available or no time to wait to get one just instal the seal at a slightly different depth to where the old one was thus placing the seal lips both dust and oil in a slightly different place, most successful I did was an old Cat D8 dozer on a power station coal pile, the owners guys couldn't get the crank pulley nut undone so a huge pair of stilsons facing backwards over the crank damper and a 5ft breaker bar, once the damper is out of the way the crank was badly scored but luckily the timing cover was ally and had just a long bore for the seal with no counterbore to set the seal against, just measured with a DTI where the old one sat and set the new one different but the same all the way round. On my timing cover I used black RTV Don't forget to check the dowel pin when you take the timing cover off if you didn't last time

Oil leak after vp44 replacement
Your first picture clearly shows the leak but I can't figure out where that area is, I've looked under my truck 3 times now and cannot ID where that is Is it a picture of the timing case.... area to sump or timing case to block ? I wouldn't pull anything until you have figured out where it's coming from as once something is removed you cannot run it

Stock Fuel Filter
I have a draw straw and the return goes into the basket, never have a problem with fuel temps, never ever goes over 120 and most of the time it's below 100 I have made a neck return but never got around to fitting it (as usual)

Quad Turbo Timer
I don't use the timer or a temp, I shut off below 280F which for most days here in the UK is easily achieved without idling for too long

Oil leak after vp44 replacement
Is the timing cover leaking

Dyna beads
I think you are right regarding the stick on weights.... pull them off and put the full 8oz in, we're in the middle of summer here so not wet or humid really, they flowed in through the valve no problem, I think I'm going to rotate the tyres tomorrow then check what it is like, then add the 8oz with no weights. As for cost as usual here they are expensive, £73 including delivery for 4 8oz packs plus the through valve applicator which is a small plastic bottle and a short length of plastic pipe And as ever @W-T an informative read

Dyna beads
I've had the Toyo tyres on my truck now for about 2 years and within the last 3 months or so I noticed an out of balance wobble starting to get worse there was several speeds where it was worse and the tyres were wearing very odd like the front edge of all threads wearing off. When I had the tyres fitted the guy told me the rims or tyres were way out of balance and that he had to use a lot of weight to even get close and to be fair the truck was never 100% and had a slight wobble over 60mph that settled out about 65mph. It was getting worse so I decided to try beads Dyna beads to give them a name, called the company here in the UK that I presume imports them from the USA ( I think) guy was very helpful and honest and he told me maybe they won't fix the balance problem I have because of the amount of weight my rims have on them. The guy advises me to try 5oz in each through the valve first, an 8oz pack per wheel is recommended for my rim and tyre size but due to already having weights on the rims he said to go low to start. So each wheel one at a time on the jack, valve core removed and valve at the bottom, the kit came with a small bottle and a tube that fits over the valve stem, the beads are small enough to flow through the valve, all four got 5.1oz actually. It has made a huge difference and now there is just one patch at 51mph where there is a very slight feeling that it just might wobble a little but this has gone at 54mph. Going to speak to the guy Colin and see what he thinks as to whether I put the other 2.9oz in each tyre and keep the weights or take the weights off. I'm about due to rotate anyway so might just see what it's like when I go back to front, the deal with swapping to another corner is you hit the tyre with a hammer as this dislodges the static stick that keeps the beads stuck to the inside of the tyre in the correct area as they need to relearn and stick differently depending on disc/drum weight and balance so the wheel is always dynamically balanced for the corner it's fitted to and if any do not stick when stopped they are in the right place before a wobble speed is reached

Something else to keep me occupied
Well yesterday I found the time between doctors appointments to drop the motor (In bits) off at the local machine shop which is about 8 miles away from me, these guys have been around for years and have done machine work for most motorcycle race teams being they are 3 miles from Donnington race track They are going to.... press the crank out of the left case and check it for runout If crank runout is ok I'll just replace the outer bearings and seal 2 small repairs on the engine casings and bead blast replace the camshaft bearings and bushings bore cylinders hopefully to 20thou as thats the cheapest Wiseco piston size 3 angle valve cut and replace guides repaint the barrels and heads 5 to 6 weeks before they can even look at it they are that busy Found a company here in the uk that makes a brand new hardtail frame for a ironhead for £895 so that will be next

Road trip to Denmark..... wednesday 1st June
it's us that drive on the correct side Came about so that Knights in armour and on horseback passed each with their sword hand (right hand) facing the enemy If you're on the right and right handed then your sword is slashing at absolutly nothing, also jousting is passing on the left too, if on the right you would joust all the heads off of the spectators Yes 1620 on a wooden ship with no engine just bits of cloth As for pictures upside down I have no idea what's going on, they are always right way up on my stuff

Road trip to Denmark..... wednesday 1st June
Stayed again in the same hotel in Sittensden Germany, dinner in an italian resturant, was done for 8.30pm and falling asleep Stayed 1 night in a old town called Lockem in the Netherlands, maybe 100yards from a huge church built in the 1500's on top of the remains of a church built in 02 AD, had dinner in Woodstock cafe, great music, great beer situated in a very old square just next to the church Everything from the very first day to the last was perfect so much so that we've decided next year to drive to Sweden and Norway and if time visit Finland again driving the same route Netherlands, Germany, Denmark to the Copenhagen island where there is a bridge to Sweden then once in Sweden access is bridges etc to Finland and Norway I was pretty bothered about driving on the right but with the new in car sat nav in our volvo xc40 it was easy and I have to say road layouts are better than the uk Ferry from the Hook of Holland to Harwich sailed at 10.00pm last night and got to Harwich around 5.00am breakfast at 6.30am and then off The swap over to driving on the left was no bother at all. I'm pretty sure I could persuade my wife to go next year in the ram....... maybe with a little paintwork done

Looming Economic Crash
I just got home from 2 weeks getting to and being in and getting back from Denmark diesel was £1.79 ish when we set off, today it's £1.96 per litre, my guess it will be £2.00 per litre before the end of the month that will be £9.10 per uk gallon our government has done a deal with Rywanda to send illegal immigrants that come across the English channel in dingies to there..... 1000's come over per month to the point where our systems like social security, health care, housing etc is crumbling Rywanda desperatly needs people The do gooders here have been mounting legal challenges to stop this, all have failed but one yesterday stopped the first flight 95% to 99% are young males with no wife or children come to sponge off of the UK instead of staying in their own country and sorting their own chit out Women and children on there own won't be deported The Ukrainian refugees are all women and children as their men all stayed to fight hence there is a safe route with assistance for them here, we have a scheme where you can sponsor a family if you have room in your house

Replacing head gasket
I find when struggling to figure out a problem it's often better to totally forget what you have previously done and start again right at the beginning. Here would be my work through list 1. Check if it is fuel or mechanical ( tractormans either Check) 2. If it is fuel Check fuel delivery at each outlet of vp then work towards injectors 3 if its not fuel ie still runs on 3 on either pull rocker cover and check pushrod are still where they should be in the followers and everything is as it should be

Replacing head gasket
Tractor man's question on how it runs on either will prove if the head is good You would expect it to run on all 6 if the head is OK. If it does run on 6 you have a fuel problem, I would then remove injector lines and check fuel delivery then lines then injectors for pop pressure, I take it engine oil level is not rising? You also would benefit from someone else doing the cranking so you can be checking stuff

Looming Economic Crash
Just read this while sitting in a square in Lockem Holland drinking beers . I'm a whole lot closer to this Putin bull and I really don't get the batten down the hatches thinking. Yes life might get tough for a while certainly for us who are closer and don't forget putin could wipe the UK out within 15 minutes are we bothered.. no will he win... no. are we bothered what it costs us as the UK to make sure he fails.... no... The UK and our commonwealth with USA help beat one fool we'll beat this fool too The UK and our commonwealth stood alone until Pearl Harbour and I'm sure I read we paid the WW2 bill from the USA sometime in the 90's but I could be wro,ng on that but I do know we paid a lot for a long time. And slightly different but sort of the same. There's a huge amount of negative thoughts here about being dragged into wars in the Middle East which we are paying for in our security, we don't have our own shooting people but we have terrorists that can just row here Apologies for the rant but putin needs stopped and I for one think everyone needs to chip in

Replacing head gasket
Looking at the picture the only thing I can see that could drop the rear 3 cylinders is if every other ramp on the cam ring was worn that bad the pressure created couldn't pop injectors but that's about as likely as finding green cheese on the moon, I suppose the delivery pathways in the pump to those 3 injectors could be blocked. I'd take all six injector lines off and see what fuel is being delivered from the pump then if that's good check what's delivered at injector end of lines, if that's good then rocker cover off and check cross over tubes aren't leaking then swap 123 injectors into 456 cylinders and see if the problem moves

Replacing head gasket
I haven't got access to much info being on the road in Germany but how do the cylinders and the vp work as in pumping elements, I remember @Tractormanstarting a thread with a lot of info on how the vp works, I very much doubt it would be 3 injectors as in 1 2 and 3 that's just too much of a coincidence Sorry wrong way round 123 working 456 not
