Need a sanity check.. changing careers
It's coming and faster than I'd like..... funnily enough you're the 2nd person that has had a hip replacement tell me to get it done asap

Need a sanity check.. changing careers
@IBMobile and @JAG1 bout the same as me although I'm only 60 but need 2 hip replacements so I potter along at my own pace and take on what I want to take on for work and no more. Putting the hip operations off as long as possible as that's a 6 months plus recoup, also as IBMobile says it's still fun fixing stuff. Once the work is done 2 codeine and a few beers sorts the hips out so I'm good for now

Engine only revs 0 to 1400 RPM and “no bus” issue
True but I'll add a little I've seen instances of the Cat dealer here field service engineers ( which I was ) turn up to a machine with Cat ET (which is "electronic technician " diagnostics plugin) and Cat SIS (supplementary information system) SIS is basically parts manual, workshop manual, service manual, diagnostics manual all rolled into one, laptop based for every machine Cat has ever built Connect ET and get codes then don't follow the listed steps for diagnosis, yes certain faults by all means pick the cheap easy first like cutting out change fuel filters first Follow the diagnostic steps and if in any doubt do it again to test

Engine only revs 0 to 1400 RPM and “no bus” issue
You say you have a check engine light on on the dash ?? If so you will have fault codes, connect a good scanner, I bit the bullet a few years ago and bought a Snap On Modis but there is cheaper that work fine, I've always found the key deal to be no use at all also with a scanner you will be able to see live data. I've only ever had 2 codes on my truck in 5 years touch wood, one was APPS and the other was MAP sensor, always scanner first buy parts second

I need to vent before my head explodes
There has been a documentary on over here Michael Palin visited North Korea, he was assigned several guides to make sure he didn't go where he shouldn't or ask what he shouldn't as the docu went on and they spent more time together one young woman started to talk a bit, Palin asked about famine in NK.... totally denied, next day he was taken to a house to meet another woman and her son, he was buried in food while there, but the host woman let slip that after receiving a commendation for something from the ruling party she was given fish as a reward and she really could not hide her pride in being given fish. This woman was as thin as a stick He was taken to a airport.... fully working, bars, shops etc, fully staffed but NO planes and no people other than the workers, he guessed it was for propaganda and to be shown on state news channels

Low Oil pressure after injector change
So lets get this straight, it has fresh oil in it at the moment and it has done about 10 miles ? You think there might be a gallon of fuel in the engine right now ? is the oil level way up the dipstick ? I think you need to go right back to the beginning and change oil and filter and make sure it is right on the full mark as it seems you don't know for sure how much oil against how much fuel is in there as you weren't sure on the oil level right at the beginning of this. Park the truck on level ground and change oil/filter make sure the oil level is at a mark on the dipstick you can identify, start the engine let it run until oil pressure comes up then stop it and let the oil settle back to the sump for a few minutes and then check and top up to your mark again, run it again for 5 to 10 minutes without moving the truck, shut off and let oil settle then check, you are looking for a large increase in oil level (blown VP seal will increase LVL quickly) do this a few more times and for longer IF you see no increase but don't forget you need to allow the oil time to settle between running and checking. Once you feel happy that you have no big fast increase in oil level take it for a very short run and do the same again, if everything is ok and oil lvl doesn't increase run it for longer but keep checking. IF level stays the same run it as normal but keep checking, once it has done say 100 miles then sample it, the result may show fuel but in very small % due to not being able to drain all oil out. IF oil level comes up at any point don't run it far and investigate The key to good diagnosis is to start off from a known point There is good chance you waste oil and filter doing this but that's better than crank/bearings or $$ thrown at a problem that may or may not exist

I've seen the effects of nuclear fallout, 30 years ago I went to Belarus 2 years on the trot aid for kids that were dying from the Chernobyl reactor accident, the radioactive cloud passed over Belarussia first, 14 or 15 vehicles mainly landrovers towing car transporters full of aid like food, medical equipment etc etc..... deformities in the kids was horrendous due to radiative fallout and vodka that was cheaper than water, I been in hospitals over run by rats as big as a fat cat, they were running everywhere, kids born with no brains at all, or just enough to breath, heads nearly empty, no limbs, no eyes or in the wrong place, whatever you can imagine that could get messed up on a human body I've seen. I read a long article last night written by an American guy and as he says the west will never be able to fully punish Putin for fear the deranged fool hits the button

Low Oil pressure after injector change
There is more on a good oil sample analysis but for low oil pressure those few will do, might see chromium, aluminium, silicon and more Here is a Cat sample, you will see why I prefer to use Cat 510621404_DHC02870_A_0.pdf Notice the comment at the very bottom, this would be different on a bad sample, if there was fuel lets say, It might recommend investigation and an oil change and resample in 100hrs If silicon was high it would recommend checking intake for leaks Bearing in mind everything I service Heavy Plant wise is sampled every 500hrs, every compartment, only engine oil is changed at every service all other oils are changed on Lab results, saves a fortune in oil, 300 gallon of hydraulic oil is not unknown so if it is still clean at 5000hrs that has saved a lot of money

My guess in Russia there is one level of confirmation...... Putin for the red button, there was a report right at the beginning of this of him " getting" approval for the invasion there were 3 generals around a 50ft table him on his own at one end (cos he's terrified of Covid) his generals really looked as though they were looking down a gun barrel, all staged to give the impression of democracy

Quadzilla won't connect grrrr
Mine never connects automatically from the mobile being shut off, I just manually connect which takes 5 seconds, I usually don't turn it off then it connects straight away

Low Oil pressure after injector change
Please don't take this the wrong way Don't get carried away, as right now all you know for sure is oil pressure is down from where it was, there is absolutely no point in speculating until you have hard facts in hand, me personally I wouldn't tow it anywhere until a oil sample has been done and I wouldn't mess around with any other kit other than a Cat sample. The kit part number here in the UK is SOS 001P not sure about the USA part numbers but found this https://www.ebay.com/p/10008251087?iid=183400178793 The sample results will show any fuel in the oil down to next to nothing, it will also show any wear metals in the parts per million range so lead is bearing white metal copper is the white metal backing Steel is crank, bearing shell You can pretty much then decide what is/has happened by the sample Ideally you want to see fuel contamination still, this would be a reason for the low oil pressure and minimal wear metals I would also advise you get at least 2 kits or at least find a supplier that you will be able to grab another later on as if the first sample comes back lets say with fuel and wear metals depending on how much a Cat lab would recommend action like "change oil and resample in 100hrs" or "further investigation is required" with fuel contamination you would sample more than once to be sure you fixed the fuel leak I'll say it again "don't panic YET"

Our ITV news reports that most Russians hate the invasion of Ukraine, but protesters in Russia don't get very far as Putin just carries them off and jails them, 15 years is the term so our news says

I need to vent before my head explodes
Russia struck a Ukraine military base right on the Polish border yesterday, It wouldn't have taken much for WW3 only needed a miscalc and landed on the other side of the border in Poland and that's Nato He's been threatening Finland, Sweden and Norway as well as Moldavia, Estonia, Lithuania, I was speaking to A Finnish guy while there and he said that Finland had kicked Russia's *** more than once and was confident they would again if provoked. All our news shows is Russian military destroying civilian areas, there has been several attempts to agree safe corridors for civilians to escape but the Russians just fire on the people, the war crimes people (I forget what they are called) are investigating and are 100% certain they have enough to convict him and other Russian military. Whatever the outcome Putin is Finished, the danger is he realises this and decides so is everyone else and hits the red button

Have you got reporters on the ground in Ukraine ? our news said a American reporter was shot recently (maybe over the weekend) We have 2 main news ITV which is what we watch and of course the BBC which I refuse to watch under any circumstances as that is biased leftish woke rubbish and our license fee goes to the BBC and the BBC alone, we have a few other news channels but none worth wasting the electricity on. ITV has reporters on the ground in every major Ukraine city that is under attack and this channel is totally unbiased and here they would and are called out for anything that is not right https://www.itv.com/news the internet ITV news page is nothing like we get at 6.30pm

Low Oil pressure after injector change
Just take a little time..... If you have the same oil grade that is in it now just take a feel between whats in it and whats in the still new jug/drum/whatever at the same temp and see what the difference is. Ideally take a amount down a slope and see what the difference is, this could be a piece of card propped up against something to create a slope then put a amount of old oil on it and time it against the same amount of the same grade new oil this is how viscosity is calculated on an oil sample at a lab but a lot more technical Or just send a sample of to a oil analysis lab, cat are really good at this There is a lot more experience on here regarding ram trucks than me but I doubt there is many that have 45 years diagnosing problems in the field from cars to 150 ton dumptrucks, excavators, dozers, etc Most important advice is take your time, diagnose and test your diagnosis and test again to be sure, this is from the Caterpillar field service training course of which I have done and whilst it really pains me to say works every time. Have you got a Cat dealer close by, if so call in a grab a single sample kit, take the sample and post it off

Do you see the same news as we do ?? if not use a VPN and change the country where you are at It is 2022 FFS, 2nd WW should have taught all people from ALL countries that we the people are not signing up for that ****, this idiot is mass missiling civilians and civilian areas, there are maybe 5 or 6 other countries standing by Russia and these 5 or 6 ought to be pariahs, I for one do not care what Putins reasons are what he is doing is not right, I am thinking about opening my house to a Ukrainian family for shelter, my first wifes father was Ukrainian and he fought in WW2 for us long dead now sadly

Low Oil pressure after injector change
don't bother with that friend, as that blue would be gone in seconds if there was ever going to be any If you had "a lot of Fuel in oil" change it again, an oil change does not remove all fuel in a heavily contaminated engine, oil and filter again and then see, yes @Mopar1973Man gave you oil pressure specs but if it Is a HUGE amount lower than what it was before the fuel contamination then expect wiped crank bearings

I need to vent before my head explodes
Last night on our way home I ate a testical (tesla)l for breakfast in our hybrid volvo xc40, stick that puppy on power and not on eco **** and boy does it go, my guess is the testical was low on battery I skimmed over some posts and forgive me if I got it wrong, this garbage that is going on in Ukraine might not right now be on you guys "important "list, this clown gets away with this then at some point it will also hurt you too and much more than at the "gas" station Our diesel is at £1.75 plus per litre, £2.00 is coming and maybe £3.00, which is £15 per gallon WW3 is not unimaginable and I for one wish the UK government would squash this idiot right now, I would rather die standing up for right than die a coward and I don't care a jot on the cost to me

Finland Lapland trip
We got back from our 5 day Finland / Lapland trip at 8.10pm last night after a 2 hour drive from Heathrow airport to home. Bearing in mind we don't get snow here in the UK much now. Plane from Heathrow to Helsinki took 3hrs 55mins, flew over Denmark which we are visiting in May for my brother in laws 70th who has lived in Denmark for over 40 years. Transfer at Helsinki to Ivalo airport which was over an hour then an hour coach to Kakslautenen in Finnish Lapland all the time heading north into the artic circle, arrived at around 8.30pm. was dark but realised there was nothing but pine forests with real log cabin buildings, some of the logs were 2ft across and 50ft long easily, snow was 4ft deep everywhere. Over the 4 full days we were there we went husky mushing ( they are fast ) me driving my wife holding on for dear life in the sled Reindeer safari at night and yes the Northern Lights made an appearance Snowmobile trip All was in pine forest miles away from anything No TV, no news, sporadic internet but I never even set my phone up to use it Temps on first day was -16c but it did warm up over the 4 days to -6c, Finnish people are crazy, they sauna till nearly fainting then go jump in a hole cut in the ice on frozen lakes

Need a sanity check.. changing careers
Those few words are "The" most important I've never really deviated far from my very first full time job at 16, I did work in a garden nursery from 10 onwards at weekends and holidays and TBH really liked that but ££ was not good even after school so I made the right path for me

Need a sanity check.. changing careers
I walked out of one job when I was around 26, Heavy Haulage company and I was the only mechanic with a licence to drive the trucks, biggest was a DAF plated to haul 150ton needless to say I was everywhere Foreman spent lunch in a local pub everyday and came back drunk everyday, I booked 2 days off with this fool in the afternoon and he forgot to record it so I didn't get paid for the 2 days and at the time young kids, house etc etc. Big argument, put my tools in my car and I'm off, very near laid him out A week later I got a call from the Quarry where I had been made redundant 18 months earlier due to HGV shop shutting to see if I would like to be their heavy plant mechanic, I stayed for 25 years or so, got a good pension and left in 2004 to work for myself (the first time) importing American cars and parts into the UK, did that for 4 or 5 years and then went back to heavy plant, It was lucky I left in 2004 as the new parent co started to raid the pension pot but they couldn't reduce mine as it was frozen, I accessed that at 55 which you can do here, it's now in a private plan of which I control.
