Teardown and Rebuild
one trick to prime is pack the oil pump with grease so it will pull suction. when i rebuilt mine i used assembly lube on the bearings and cam nothing more. a light coating of engine oil in the bore and on the piston skirt to aid in insertion. Hope all works well for startup!

you could just use a pvc stub with a cap hose clamped to a short hose that is there.

24v cummins rebuild procedure
I have a rough procedure up and mostly completed, just need to put in torque specs and sequence of a few things and its done. this will get you from a bare block to an assembled block ready to go in the truck. http://articles.mopar1973man.com/2nd-generation-24v-dodge-cummins/26-engine-systems/481-24v-cummins-rebuild-step-by-step?hitcount=0

Truck in the shop and new problems appearing every day.
try to get a mechanical oil pressure gauge installed to check to see if it isnt the dash gauge going bad. or a bad wire?if you are making oil, you either have injectors pissing (replace injectors) or the orings are very old allowing fuel to pass by like the said (easy fix)

Head retorque after rebuild break in
i used new stock bolts from cummins, and i torqued per rebuild specs and pattern all the way to 90deg turn. was just curious if a recheck is needed and what ft-lb it is. If not then i wont worry. i dont go above 30psi boost and just drive it normally and not tow much so its an easy going truck

Head retorque after rebuild break in
So as the title states, is it necessary to retorque (ensure all bolts are up to correct ft/lb) the head bolts after break in and some mileage after full rebuild? So far i have about ~3000miles on my rebuild. I have had no issues but i heard rumors of needing to recheck torque on all head bolts. I am also unsure of what the ft/lb is to check for if needed. I did do proper install on head per rebuild manual. thoughts suggestions?

Teardown and Rebuild
vp piston cooling jets vs cr cooling jets and direct squirts the vp piston coolers not only give coating to the bore but also aid in cooling the underside of the pistons and skirts. the cr piston coolers actually spray into a orifice into the piston especially on the bottom end of the stroke and also have the cooler nozzles as the vp pistons so they get twice the cooling ability.

Teardown and Rebuild
oh TF, i dont know if you have rebuilt stuff before but a head up on the wrist pin insertion... the tolerances are beyond tight to the point that its best to lube with machine oil and slip them into the piston by hand gently and slowly as they will bind easily until they align in the bore and slide in. be gentle as you dont want to score anything. Mine came pre assembled from the manufacturer so i just slid them half way out to insert rods. i did take one all the way out and kinda panicked that i almost couldnt get it back in lol.

welcome DJ, ask as many questions as you want there are no stupid questions. this place is a great place to discuss and learn. I have never had an issue with anyone here!

Time for my first Cummins Headgasket
You can run a bolt through the chain for the rear bracket, it will be fine for just the head.

Time for my first Cummins Headgasket
use the valve cover bolts to pull injectors. a small flathead crewdriver pulls the crossover tubes out easily with no damage. ive dont it many times.

$6 for a complete set, they are retained in by the top bearings. cheap insurance get new from cummins and be good.

Vacuum Pump Oil Leak Driving Me Insane!
its super easy to do, just take your time and ensure clenliness during assembly. i used a gas bath to clean my parts in and out before assembly.
