  1. Well it's funny. When I first got this truck all my friends asked what I tow. At that point it was just groceries and beverages. Since then I got a huge boat and a dump trailer and a car hauler. I even towed a backhoe home 300 miles with the 02 black dodge auto trNny. 40,000 pounds total weight on 5.9!! Think I'll do the 190. 200 in the winter when I don't tow Thanks you guys!! I'll get thermostat on Monday from dodge unless you think run of the mill from big daddy auto chain is sufficient ?
  2. Ok thanks. Saw the thread on the 190 vs 200 thermostat. Prolly just use 190 since its summer right?
  3. Hi guys, been a while. I'm having a problem with my truck getting up to temp. Unless I'm towing. But on normal driving edge on 5x5 it stays about 140 degrees. Any thoughts?
  4. Feels it but tows it no prob Need to update. It's a 2001 5 speed With a lot of stuff I did to it thanks to this site
  5. My actual job . Riding the steep
  6. Man I wouldn't want mine slipping off on a dusty road!! Do you guys think rtv or silicone would be a good idea? I mean you could peel off what you don't like. Or doesn't someone use a piece of pipe inside as a backup for gear clamps? Prolly 4inch sdr 35 pipe cause 4" abs or PVC would be to big. I bet that with a rough up would be ace tight.
  7. That's slick!! What's that on your oil fill cap?
  8. Ya California is a rough spot. I mean you can get anything you need for your truck within an hour, you can motocross, ski, hunt, fish, water ski, surf, or go make ten thousand bucks real quick if all that gets to boring, all within a few hours or even minutes of each other. Ya this place is rough. The hardest thing about this place is leaving. If you break down here give me a call.
  9. Both mine passed with 128 to 1. Also had no cat and no muffler. They were not to thrilled about the edge wiring that I had tucked behind brake booster but it still passed
  10. Those look nice!! Do you have a link to a site? Also how does the center console part fit and does it still open and close?
  11. Good lookin out. Ill check for bubbles right now. It's the tiny freez plug on the back of the head that appears to be leaking. I put stop leak in and made it home a week ago. Haven't had time to further inspect, but will check for bubbles first. I did change the oil in Missouri before I left and its lookin clean and at same level. All three gallons and new filter, so I see no oil in coolant. I wonder how you fix that little freeze plug back there. Do I have to pull head. ? - - - Updated - - - As for the ether they sprayed it right on the bhaf. Still a nice stain on it. At the dealer I was pacing like a new dad in a waiting room wondering what they were doing to my truck, telling the guys to crack and bleed etc etc. then finally I couldn't take it anymore and peeked in just in time to here it clack to a start and see dude putting can of ether on shelf!! I said NOoooo!!! And was like wtf man you don't do that. That's when I noticed there wasn't one drop of fuel on the floor, so they just drained tank and filters and cranked it through. I mean if it was done right there would be diesel on the floor. Oh we'll I still feel like a moron.
  12. Well I change my mind. That red dodge looks sweet!!as far as keeping it clean, what about mud? I have a two mile dirt road that gets pretty brutal in the winter months. That's why I want to go up to the window line. Truck gets pretty muddy.
  13. I saw a red Toyota today with rhino line rockers and didn't like it. I'm thinking about line x all the way to bottom of windows. Some people around here do their whole truck. Looks awesome. I didn't know they could color match. That's cool i don't like when rockers are done and then the little rubber shopping cart strip above it. Just my opinion though. Check out how thick line x is. I think professionally done is worth it

  15. Almost home. Be there tomoro. Got caught in some snow twice. First time in Missouri it snowed about ten inches with Ice under it. I whipped on my chains on the back and tore the seventy a new one all the way to Kansas city. Throwing a serious roost the whole way. Truck made that road it's bi@!ch!! Everyone sliding off simi and car. Not me. Why don't people take the five minutes to put chains on over there? I mean safety is number one. I don't get it. Most states it's a law to have them. Second snow in nabraska and Wyoming today. Very Icy and scary. For everyone else. Anyway truck is all good and is about ten miles shy of one hundred thousand. So it's not broke in yet. Ill be spending some time on it over the next couple weeks fixing freez plug and trying to get more than thirteen psi out of lift pump. Also waste gate is siezed or something. I'm sure l will be asking about it. Exhaust brake would be cool on those long Icy downhills too.
  16. The ones on my ford 450 work trucks lock the axle directly. Won't move at all no way. I gotta say they make the best work trucks.
  17. Well don't tell anyone( not lookin for more work ) but I've been a plumbing contractor for twenty years and cpvc is better than PVC. Better than that is copper, brass, stainless. Since we aren't building a piano though I just use 5/8 hydrolic hose. If it collapses than your truck is already on fire for some other reason.5/8 heater hose will work too. Just gear clamp and go.
  18. I put a fass one fifty in last summer and stretched the spring a little so it would idle at eighteen. Now it's idling at sixteen. I think it's time to stretch it some more. Also if the filters start clogging I noticed that there isn't much difference in idle and wot. Like when my filter is new it will visibly drop to fourteen no prob but when they get ten thousand on them it will stay at sixteen. You should change filter every two oil changes. (10000 seems like the max )
  19. No freeze plug wasn't leaking before. I guess it's a small price to pay for my bonehead move. In my defense, I've been on the road stacking nine hundred miles a day so I'm a little jaded to say the least. I'm 2000 miles from home. My friend has a nice heated shop in Columbia, Missouri. Ill be checking it out real good tommorow. Incidentally I did put stop leak in which I hate to do. It appears to have plugged it, and the temp got up to 201, and jumped around between 184 and 201 for a hundred miles. Prior to adding it it never went above 190 since I've owned it. Must be sticking to thermostat? What size thermostat is in this? 2001 qclb 5 speed 4x4. I'm going to pick one up tommoro morn to throw In glove box in case I need it.thanks.
  20. Well they got it goin. I smell ether so that's not cool but whatever. Guess they just drained tank and used the starter to run it through. Now it leaks. Coolant out of that tiny freeze plug on back of head. I'm afraid I have to use stop leak till I can fix it.
  21. I guess I'll find out. It's in their hands. The fuel I got came from a green handle so I don't know how Iowa works but in the other 47 states green is diesel, or sometimes yellow. Still I feel so dumb right now.
  22. Oh man I put e85 in tank. Had half tank of diesel and put in fifteen gallons of e85. Drove quarter mile and it quit running. Getting towed to dodge dealer now in nabraska city. You think I messed truck up? They are going to take fuel out and replace.
  23. I like to hitch hike and hop trains and chase the gratefull dead around.just kidding i did notice while lurking through travel trailer forums that those jayco's are light.
  24. Right on thanks guys. So safety first. Sounds like ill look at a smaller situation. That toy hauler did sound sweet though. I mean up town!! The gvw I stated was high cause I did find trailer forums that state generally all the toy hauler weight is based on what you wish it was I guess. I mean that honker can't way that little.
