AirDog 150 in cold weather
Don't forget, water won't drain out if it's below freezing!! (You probably know that!!) On the other hand, what would you take for that hunk of junk that won't even run???? LMAO Like I've said many many times: 'even advertised as 'blended, or winterized'.. you atill are dealing with the 'first batch' of the season. God only knows the real truth of what's being pumped! Hopefully by next month, fuel quality will be better.

I would suspect ice now, or bio fuel remnants. You probably have most of the h20 in or around the filters by now. Unless you got a load of crap fuel... I've taken filters in the house over night, warmed them up (upside down) and it still doesn't work very well. dang moisture really is imbedded in the paper. I have had luck refilling those thawed filters with 911. Warning... it'll stink up the house! Maybe out in the garage under a heat lamp.. (careful there too) Might have to sacrifice a filter to 'see' what's in there! Grainy type material will be the suspended water, (unless it got thawed in your heated garage and refroze.. then it'll be solid chunk.. Whiter flakey material should be the wax, and butter colored will be the bio fuel Either of these will kinda look like ice, but will NOT melt in the palm of your hand. They will dissolve when it's a tad warmer, maybe 120-130 degrees.

God I miss this forum!
Thanks man, but most of my 'experience' is cobblef**king something up to get me back home!.. and 35 plus years of bailing wire and duct tape.... well sometimes I get lucky! (and know what NOT to do next time!) LOL

God I miss this forum!
This is exactly WHY I joined mopar1973man.com Most replies are from genuine owners who've got a fair amount of common sense, and have experience in a problem being discussed! Not from guys who get their smartass answers from reading thousands of posts, and they become a self appointed know it all! (you know the one's, with 8-10k posts) my gosh, when do they go outside and experience life???? .... I am surprised you didn't get avalanched by the typical 'did you try SEARCHING first'??? (my favorite) Or the next one: 'geez, if ya gotta ask, you shouldn't be trying it' Good people here!

get it while ya can!
Additives are flying off the shelf! And I'd bet we'll see a repeat of last year, the warehouses are getting low too. I'd recommend to the family here to buy a couple extra bottles in the next few days. By next week, It could be gone!

the heaters already in our filter heads.. I got a feeling they are just about good enough to maintain engine idling.. but not much more. (if they are still working!)

^^^ good question! I've never thought of it from that angle.- Artic Express Coming
http://www.arctic-fox.com/images/products/Hotline_Photo_250_x_350.jpgOutfit out of Minnesota. Maybe Mntom knows of them? I'm considering this ^^^^^ I emailed them for some more info. ( tube size, and how it's finished: size of AN fittings) They also have tank heaters (coolant loop) cartridge type inline (coolant and electric). These are 4.5 foot long, and would 'fit' pretty easily between the tank and my FASS When fitted with the optional thermostat, fuel is only heated to 80 degrees. The ` $450 Is kinda high, but I'd sure think it'd eliminate some of my 'problems'.- AirDog 150 in cold weather
you have very typical symptoms, where after you shut down, then restart, you have a brief moment of 'fair' pressure, then back to nuttin. I've found on a vertical filter, when there is 0 pressure, the plugging crap tends to sink away from the filter media, and allows some passage... but when you repressurize, zam! it's blocked up again. Change yer filters.(air dog's) If what you have in the tank is truly what 'they' advertised, then You should be good... But the filters are overwhelmed with 1. ice 2 crud 3 gel Or a combination of all 3. Before dropping a load on the filters, check the metal screen on the airdog first!! I have a metal cartridge screen in front of my fass, (inline, looks just like a G2 fram filter) and while it protects the pump, it's a disaster for plugging. Metal screen on the suction side of diesel fuel is a sure fire way to get you walking home. Edit: you still running the fuel through the factory filter? or using the airdogs only? better check that one too!- Artic Express Coming
4 days running straight #2 and a product called Lucas anti-gel and water displacement. So far, so good. Low temps of 0, highs in the upper teens to upper 20's. This is in a tractor, running WOT for many hours going down the highway. (easiest time for gelling: high fuel flow, and light engine loads- not much heat) Also, there is NO 'underhood' help for engine heat. My filters are hangin out in the wind. Possible to start a tread with " what's workin for ya" in the world of fuel additives/blends/recipes? Come Monday morning, we are supposed to be looking at a 10 below, and if this stuff works, I'm never going to buy a PS product again! By the time 'real winter' hits, and we are looking at 10 below for a 'high'... I'll have my blended fuel then. 50/50 #1, #2- Miss at all RPMs
Hmmm, a couple days ago, you had a 'cold' #6, today, it's #1..- Artic Express Coming
I backed the 2000 out of the shop today.. just to move some stuff around. (almost done working on the flatbed)... It croaked within 30 seconds. Yah, it still has straight #2 in it. I like making 'work' for myself! Meantime, I went down the road 20 miles to feed cows with the ol perkins, same fuel, but tried a new-to-me product: Lucas fuel antigel and water displacement.. I made it home! Tonight supposed to be sub zero. fandamtastic, least the dang wind's gone down!!!- front driveshaft replacement
"TATTONS" driveshaft, Salt lake! Man, I can't remember names to save my life! http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-1350-CV-DRIVE-SHAFT-ONE-TON-DODGE-CHEVY-JEEP-FORD-/250884928842?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item3a69e8354a- front driveshaft replacement
did my semi annual driveshaft greasing today, and I did replace a front joint. I also noticed the CV is getting a little funky. (you know the little 'cup' for greasing the centering ball... the one that is next to impossible to grease!).. So, a quick search and I think I'll go with a custom type shaft. Littons out of Salt Lake shows a brand new, all Spicer components, with 1350 CV joint, (oem is 1330 series) for about 350 bucks. Any custom length, and balanced...- Artic Express Coming
After seeing all the documentaries on Great Lakes shipping, That's one job I'd be a little leary of. We 'toured' the museum in Duluth years ago, saw a couple ships 'put out', Quite a sight! Man, If this weather keeps going like it is, There may be an earlier freeze up. Last year didn't Superior freeze up totally, first time in many?- Artic Express Coming
no kidding! weather channel said high of 47 today! It hit 8 'geesh'. They totally botched that one! I was flat on my back soldering up the flatbed wiring, took a long time for solder to flow today!- Artic Express Coming
All the freighters make it off the lake? Don't want another Edmond Fitz!- Tires
I ran load range E.. on my 2500's, I believe those are 10 ply? But, they were Treadwrights too, and pretty cheap, so I spec'd them that heavy. I think they were about 25 bucks more than load range D's. They are most definitely heavier in mass, stiffer, and probably take more fuel to spin them up to speed.. Any thicker tire will hold heat too, Just throwin out the cons too. just curious, how many miles are you getting on a set of tires (for the way you drive, and where you drive)... Some are getting ~ 50-75k on a set, while others (me) 20-30k I am more 'off road' and pretty abusive on rubber... (main reason I run re treads) If you buzz off the tread pretty quickly, I'm not sure about the savings in going with a 10 ply.. I haul almost 200 loads of hay a year home, some of the meadows are 19 miles from here. This is why I stay with the 10 ply on the 3500. But, even if you haul only a few loads of hay, the extra plys is peace of mind too!- Little puff of white smoke when starting
is it every start up, or cold only? typically a valve seal needs time to leak down, so an immediate restart should be clean.... But on the other hand, a hot piston will mask a pissy injector too. ....... pretty hard to race around and smell that elusive puff... Pretty windy around here lately! Should have a blue haze if it's oil, but the sun shining from different angles can change the color big time. Lots of definitive answers in my post! LOL- I broke the cupholder
This is for a 97 or older?- winter blend
I got no doubt about it! ^^^^ above ground tanks are terrible for keeping fuel in good shape. I've been looking into a 'sealed' type bladder system that lets the tank breathe, but the air that goes in or out is contained in another closed flexible 'bladder'.- Paint pictures
definitely not a Maaco 'special'!! This should 'date' me, Remember the Maaco specials? " $ 69.99 gets your car painted" " emm, double A, emm cee OH! tra laaa laaa Are those cab clearance lights factory? they look dark, Mine are the usual amber - AirDog 150 in cold weather
