I would recommend putting it under the rear seat.  If you are anywhere near as tall as I am 6'2" a roof mounted rack won't leave you much headroom.

Here is what I did

If you are needing a roof mounted system I am afraid I can't help you much.

I had a friend with a roof mounted gun rack and every time we went offroad (off pavement) to go to the ranch or after firewood someone would end up with a gun in the lap, up side the head, etc. That idea really didn't last too long. Then he got a rear window gun rack and no problems from there. Nick's idea is good but I've got a cargo tray there and full to the bottom of the seat. The only firearm I typically carry is my 9mm pistol. Rarely do I pull out a rifle... Not much on hunting anymore...

Do you lower the seat back when the guns are on the rack?  It doesn't look like there is anything to hold them in there.

Yea you can lower the seat fine.  they stick in there good, I haven't had one fall out ever, but you could easily use a bungie cord to keep them tight.

I'm just as patriotic as the next guy, but people in General get too sensitive about seeing guns in the rear window.

Honestly, I don't care for people to know that I have a gun.  I have never understood the notion of storing guns in plain sight, they are too expensive and maybe a temptation for a thief--and I feel more protected if nobody knows I have one.  I'm with you for not putting them in the back window.

Too risky, it's just inviting someone to smash your window, especially now a days. Not mention people who are scared of guns would call the police on you and they could nit pick anything into a ticket or fine. I keep my 12 gauge tucked behind the seat in my 2 door chevy where people can't see it.
