Block heater temp

Recommended Posts

So I'm pretty sure my block heater is on it's last leg. Been noticing it a lot lately. Just wondering what temp your engines heats up to before you start it. Mine the last couple days has been high of 86 scan guage said at 20 degrees out. Also does anyone know the torque for that block heater plug. Thanks

i used mine a fair amount last winter. Had it on a timer to come on 2 hours before I left for work. In 20* weather it would get up around 65* and start just fine. This was outside but mostly blocked from the wind but nothing like it being in a garage. At only 20 outside I never felt any need to heat it up any more than that.

I like the block heater for working on the engine in winter. Really helps if you get a tarp up over the open engine hood and down the sides. Keeps a lot of warmth inside. I learned this only cause my shop was too full of stuff to get truck inside.

My friend has a 6.0 and says his truck heats up really quick.  My old 7.3 IDI didn't warm up terribly quick, but was quicker than my cummins which seems odd since I think my IDI had 3 more gallons of coolant to heat up.  The IDI did have a cold idle though so that may have been the difference.  Now my cummins has the cold/3cyl idle just in time for the weather to warm up.  At least I will be more comfortable next year.

I hear that I need to get mine ordered and put on. Glad you got yours working :). Yeah my brother and buddy's 7.3 heats up quick and to full temp. Now my dads 6.7 cummins is the same way as mine. You'd think cummins would get on board with full heat when plugged in. :whistle2:
