Infinity sound system

Recommended Posts

Who's the audio specialist? So my stereo speakers started months ago cutting out intermittently sometimes the right sometimes the left sometimes the little tweeter in the A post. Back always worked. But now I'm down to just having a left door speaker. Question is it the stereo, speakers or amplifiers hooked to the speakers? Has anyone had this problem? I thought I'd put in a new stereo but then it had no sound then I found out about the whole amplifier thing powering up I don't want to wire it up correctly if the amps are bad in the first place. So now I'm back trying to figure out what's not working in the first place.

Im not a stereo expert by any means but when I got my truck the front door speakers did not work. The factory radio had its own problems so I figured all would be well with a new radio. New radio did not fix old speakers so I put in two new 6x9's in the front doors and they work great. I left the little amps in place and just screwed them to the new speakers.

I did the same as @98whitelightnin.  I replaced the radio and put some new 6X9s in the doors and left the amps intact.  Also as @SilverMoose has said, if you leave the amps intact then you'll need to connect up the power on wire to your system.  It is a blue wire and sometimes its marked as power antenna or amp on signal.

I'd make sure the blue wire is connected correctly and when you turn the key on you should hear a click from under the dash (the amp circuit being energized).

What does the blue wire hook to on the truck harness? It has 4 plugs. 1 ground 2 big ones that have speakers, power, etc and 1 that has 2 wires that I think must be to the amp. I don't know which wire to hook to ones violet and one is white with a black stripe. How do I test the amps to see if they are working?

I'm going crazy just want to listen to the radio it doesnt have to be expensive sounding. I hooked up the the blue wire and now I have power to the amps and sound. But drivers side still does not work so my stock stereo is probably just fine. I went to the junk yard and found the ten wire speaker with amp. Now I have sound to the door but no sound to the tweater in the A post or the rear door. I also got a couple more tweeters and rear speakers but still no sound.

Interesting.  If you had sound to the tweeter and rear door but nothing to the front door speaker on the drivers side then you switched to the junkyard speaker and amp then you had front door sound but no tweeter or rear door then I'd say your original speaker is bad but the amp was good (since you had tweeter and rear door sound) and the junkyard speaker is probably good but the amp is bad (no rear speaker or tweeter sound).   You can try your original front amp and the junk yard front door speaker.  The amps just unbolt from the speaker but I cant remember if the wires from the amp just plug on to front speaker or if they are soldered on.

Honestly though, I'd buy a new head unit and some speakers and be done with it (actually, thats exactly what I did).  You can get a decent radio and speakers for pretty cheap now a days... just my :2cents:
