4th Generation Ram

This is a discussion forum of the 2010 to 2018 4th Generation Ram Trucks with 6.7L Common Rail Cummins Turbo Diesel power train and drive line system.

  1. Hello all, We are going to be full-timing in our RV soon and will be purchasing a fifth wheel. Our current truck isn't up to the task, so I'm looking at 2012 Dodge Ram trucks. As far as the official capacities go, the 3500 crew cab long bed has the highest towing numbers. However, as we have looked closely at the crew cab, it has an "odd" middle seat that is about 5" less deep. This is playing havoc with our middle rear facing infant seat. So, we are looking at the mega cab. Unfortunately the official capacities on the mega cab are way less than the crew cab. Official payload is 2,550lb vs 4,430lb. Likewise, the GCWR is less by around 4,000lb. I ran across th…

  2. Friends 2011 4500 has an intermitant CEL, when it's on the lie o meter MPG improves about 25-30%. Plan on taking it to pull the codes but was just wondering, how the two could be linked? In other words why the improvment in mpgs when the CEL is on?

I recently sold My 02 cummins as I had 2 Ram cummins and was daily driving one and with the price of diesel being so high I couldn't justify having 2 of them so I went Hemi shopping and found this one.2010 Ram 1500 SLT 4x4 quad cab 5.7 Hemi 5 spd auto. first tank averaged 16.9 with a good mix of driving and a lot of town driving for my standards. So I am happy as can be as my cummins daily averaged 15.5-16.5 so with gas being 40 lower than diesel around here right now I am saving money already. It had 19,800 miles when I drove it off the lot. still has factory warranty.:thumb1:So far almost 2K miles on it since I bought it. Mileage has been great, hand calculated it has a…

So here is our departments new fire engine apparatus: Purdy right? Just had to show her off to you guys! I do not know the specs on it yet, but I can say it has an International diesel in it. It is definitely alot diff. in how it runs compared to the good ol' cummins sound. She drives like a dream, I would say. BUT there is an acute difference with this engine and the others. New vehicles have to meet that pesky ol' EPA emissions standard now that require 83% less NOx emissions. Manufacturers are resorting to the good ol' Urea or you might as well call it ____, to lower those emissions to meet that EPA standard. FRANKLY, I find that quit annoying to h…

  8. This was posted on another forum by Silverram323 so I copied it to share here There is a snow plow mode you can activate. Plow Snow Confidently With Your Ram HD. As the weather begins to change, many Ram owners will start pulling out their snow plows. But your Ram may already come with built-in snow plow mode, a feature that will ensure maximum engine operation while operating in winter conditions. Snow plow mode allows the cooling system and fan to perform to their optimum capability when using a plow blade, which greatly affects the airflow around the front of the truck, ensuring that your engine temperature remains normal. All Cummins-powered Ram Hea…

  9. I have no clue what this is? I am trying to learn the truck and everything about it. It appears the fuel system has 3 return lines. One from the CP3, One from Rail, and one from Fuel Drain manifold which all combine into one.

Just thought I would let everyone know I removed all the emissions in case anyone needs help. It does really suck and hurt the hand a few times but truck has been running better and better. Nothing like 22 MPG+

my HVAC man has a 2011 dually with a 6 speed. we swapped today for a very short drive. when i stepped on the clutch i almost put the pedal to thru the floor board. i swear icould push it in with one finger. when i went to let it out i did not think it was going to come up. i just kept lifting my foot until it cmae up all the way amd with a big jerk off i went. the whole time i am wondering what he thinks about the way i drive. we get to the job and both get out. he is holding his leg and wondering how anybody can drive a truck with a clutch that pushes back like mine. we both had a good laugh about it. it was a very nice truck but the clutch is so soft it reminds me of a …

  13. I want to service my 4x4, unsure if anyone has every changed fluids since it has 101k and not one record for the truck. Kind of stupid to buy it but it looked good.Anyways changing 4x4 drivetrain I mean; front, rear, transfer case. What fluids would you use, how much does it take? And why would the stealership charge 325 dollars to change fluids. They said it was about 100 bucks in fluid just for the rear end alone, i looked up and seen about 13 bucks a quart and rear end holds 4 quarts. I believe this is wrong.

Hoping someone can help me understand boost?. I understand it uses the exhaust pressure to spin turbo to push more air into the engine..But why have a gauge for it? Only thing I can assume is for the people that are running it down a truck or pulling 20k+ trailers. I plan on for now pulling about 10k or less. Chipping for MPG not for power. I am not running it down the track.. I guess you could say I will not be pushing it's limits in any shape.the only gauges I can think of of getting is pyro, trans temp, and soon rail/fuel PSI.Also what makes boost change? Putting pedal down? Pulling a trailer up steeper hill? I'm new at the boost so a guide for dummies would be great!

  15. So being new to the diesel world since April. I was wondering when you guys switch to 50/50 or straight 1? I seen a product by diesel kleen that will have number to not gel till negative 30 F. I would still do 50/50 before then. I thought about running opti-lube. read great things. So in a wrap of a question. What diesel to run when and to run additive when?[MOPAR][/MOPAR]

http://blog.caranddriver.com/breaking-down-the-new-2016-fuel-economy-standards/ That site says: Under the new rules, combined fleet fuel economy will have to increase to 29.7 mpg for the 2012 model year, ramping up to 34.1 mpg by 2016. The passenger-car slice of that number goes from 33.3 (2012) to 37.8 mpg (2016) while light trucks increase from 25.4 to 28.8 mpg. The current standard is 27.5 mpg for cars and 23.5 mpg for light trucks. My only question here is, what are they calling a light truck? A ford ranger/dodge dakota/chevy colorado? Even those trucks would be lucky to hit the current 23.5MPG standard. I also wonder what they are going by, highway milea…

Well turn out I finally replaced the fuel filter in my truck which was not too hard. Besides the fact that dodge switched the DAMN fuel filter housing therefore I need to buy the updated housing and filter. Well 73 dollars later I had the new filter and housing. It was quite simply. Tools needs8MM socket for 8 screws.Pan to drain fuel into2 hands. Drain fuel - Takes forever.Take fender off- 8 bolts very easy.disconnect WIF sensor and screw the drain line completely off. With your hand twist off the filter.I did take the tire off but because I need off for a different reason which did not busy not necessary. I bought the truck about 1 month ago and found the CV joint in the…

  20. I have two issues with my truck and unsure what they are. Both just started today. 1. I am having a raddle sound coming from I believe up front. Unsure sure where. The faster I go the little louder but not much. I stop and rev the truck up No sound. So it only happens in motion. (VISUAL truck looks fine under neath. With out help unsure of how to check and how to check. 2. Check engine light is on. Unsure why, otherwise it would be fixed:doh:. But anyways the only changes in last two days have been i filled with diesel. I made sure I put right fuel in. Plus I put on only about 5-20 miles since then. Second I installed backup camera today, unsure if I hit a sensor or disco…
