Ok as usual Michael hit it on the money again, don't get your hopes up just yet, it didn't fix the real problem (surge). But we now have 17 psi on fuel gauge. Went from 12.75 to 17 at idle, wot 15.25 on a airdog 100 with a 150 draw straw. Speaking of surge would injectors cause that or not?The .740 had to be brought down to .690. I could feel the washer line up as I screwed fitting in with fingers. It then went smooth all the way till tight.

Finally took my truck into the shop to get them to yank the entire dash out and fix the damm diverter door. If I ever find the person who invented this method of heading/A/C, will tie them next to a fire ant mound and slather them with food. Not kidding... Anyways they got everything working fine, it was evidently only one door out of the three that was not working right but now they call and say that my fan clutch (which was working fine yesterday) is now not good and causing the A/C pressures to go too high when the truck is not driving. Interesting... it worked fine yesterday when they started working on it... Fan clutches are easy to change so am going to do that mys…

was getting ready to change my 99's front pads. i have noticed the inside pad(the one with the piston on it) wears significantly faster than the outer. went to the part house and notice his screen said the pads he was selling me are 7500gvw and my truck is 8800gvw. he did not have ones listed for 8800 and when he check 1ton he also got 7500 and 10500. are the 7500 ok? i mean they fit(as its most likely what i've put in the last 2 times). rockauto.com lists a 8800 and even 8500...guess that kinda answers that question. ---------- Post added at 03:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:10 PM ---------- it seems some places have 8800gvw as only 4X4. they look s…

Ok so today I went out to the lake and we took my uncles boat ,I don't know how much it weight but this mourning when we were on our way over there my egt's were pretty low well at least thats what I think I do really have an idea of whats normal but they were running around the 700's and had my adrenaline on level 3 and on 5th gear. But on the way back I started to notice alot of difference the truck felt heavier and had it on the same level and also on 5th gear and egt's were higher 950's so I slowed down a little and drop it to 4th gear and the egt's went down again to 750's . So my question is was this boat pretty heavy or am I missing something maybe a bigger turbo o…

So I was coming home from being stateside late last nite bored, (just under 2000 miles in 2 days), and tired and ended up in a race , just to amuse myself, with a little foreign sports car of some sort. After impressing myself with atop gps speed of 121mph, I slowed back down to my cruising speed of around 77mph. About 5 minutes after the run, I pulled into a coffee shop for 5 minutes and when I started my truck, it had a knocking noise in engine. Drove another 150 miles to home, never got any worse. No bass pressure, no filings in bass, besides the noise, it's working perfect. It sounds louder on driver side close to half way. Gonna pull her apart on Monday. What do y…

  8. Hey all, Just pulled apart the rear hubs to service the bearings and noticed the inner bearing cone cage was deformed (probably due to my technique for removing the wheels seals, removing the outer cone and then putting the nut back on a few threads and then firmly pulling the hub toward me until the rear cone and seal pop out of the hub) . The cage is not binding any of the rollers, however, I am not really happy with putting it back in service. I am pretty sure if I do this i have to replace the race as well as the cone...Correct? The race appears to be in good shape, but I wonder about putting a new cone in w/o changing it. Also does anyone have a better way of removin…

  9. Heard this the other day and I wanted to come to someone who knows fact from fiction - so here goes.I have an 02 2500 ram 5.9 w/ an in-tank lift pump the dodge guys put there under warranty. I installed an edge comp instead of my E-Z, then a fuel pressure gauge because I was afraid of my pump, then I replaced my lift pump with a Holley because of low pressure. For those who don't know, you don't have to crank the motor to start the pump, just "bump"the starter and it will run for 30 seconds. When I do this, I get about 16 lbs. of pressure. If I start the motor, it drops slowly to about 10. I was told by someone that when the motor starts, the relay lowers the power output …

  11. Over the last few weeks, my truck has been showing an engine check light. The light comes on only when the truck has been running for 1/2 hour or so. I am only using the truck for short distances while driving to and from mowing jobs. After completing a lawn, I will attempt to start the truck to head to the next job, and it will NOT START. If I wait for 20 more minutes or so and try again, it will now start. A mechanic came over and placed a scan tool to the computer input and the scan tool was not able to read any data!! If anyone has any ideas of where to begin on a diagnosis I would appreciate it. Note: After the truck sits overnight, the next day the truck will start…

  12. hey all,i flushed my engine coolant and changed the thermostat sunday afternoon. before, my truck would take ~3 miles or so before the gauge read above 140. once warm, my needle would stay above 140 but NEVER cross 190. since the flush i can reach 190, often before i'm out of my neighborhood. while driving, the needle bounces either side of 190. i have also noticed that the overflow resiovor has more fluid than when i finished the flush(i keep expecting to put more in). the thermostat was one from the local oreillys(murry brand, i believe). is these normal, or do i still have air in the system? it is a little unsettling to see something different from on a cluster you've …

  13. Had an interesting phone conversation with the owner of TST products today about the so vp44 fuel pump. He was a Cummins employee and has worked on and has had access to testing the vp44 and prior fuel pumps. He said that the high pressure side of the internal vane pump produces around 300 psi at 2200 rpm engine speed, and that the actual injection is done by a piston that creates the high pressure pulse and also directs it to the correct injector. This piston not only pushes the fuel to the injector but also rotates or spins to line up with the correct injector port in the VP44. He said that many of the pump failures are attributed to the piston ceasing from lack of …

I have a Bullydog propane kit I'm going to install on my 01 Dodge. The It is an older kit and the tank is out of date. Can I just use a tank from a barbecue or maybe a forklift tank or is there something else I would need? I'll take any good advice that you want to share, Thanks, Donald

Ok so I had a chance to really look today and plan out my setup for the AirDog system im planning to get and I couldn"t find my lift pump. The mount on the side of the just has a alum block with a line running through it, and there is no pump mounted on the frame rail. So my only other option is an in tank pump, but I have never heard of an in tank pump on an '01, but maby im wrong. If I do have an in tank pump what does this change for the AirDog system I plan on getting??

  16. I've got an 01 2500, 4x4, quad cab. I just had the inj, pump replaced at 175k miles. Stock rebuilt as far as I know. the truck has an K&N air cleaner and 4 inch exhaust. I pull a 31 foot travel trailer and usually gross out anywhere from 18 to 19 thousand pounds. Other than that looong split between 3rd and 4th (it's a 5 speed), I really enjoy the truck. I hear a lot of info about upgrades and the power and fuel mileage increases they give you. I.m getting ready to head cross country ( ore to N.C) and wondering,"will they really help?) Right now it gets an average of 18mpg by itself and 11 to 14 with the trailer(9 to 10 in a strong head wind) Thanks. This is my first…

Is it a do it yourself or do you have to have someone do it for you. i am mechanically inclined but not an trained mechanic. Any idea on this. Thanks:thumb1:
