Just wanted to express appreciation for communities like this. I haven’t posted/interacted much but I’ve been reading and applying what I’ve read. I’m too green to really chime in other than questions, anyway. I picked up a truck a couple months ago with the intention of building it into a tow rig. It’s not a full time commercial rig but I work remote and the wife and I want to be on the road a lot, so getting the truck ready was a priority. Doing WT’s ground wire mod fixed the annoying TC cycling issue and the vp44/injectors sound happier with a lift pump. Reading here has me settled on a Quadzilla and likely 100hp injectors (rather than 50’s and want…

I am planning the do a cooling system maintenance on my 1998.5 and have not been able to find the correct thermostat for it . The ones that I have been handed are the large one for the 12 valve. I did try one about 7 years ago and had such wild swings in temp that I thought I had done something wrong. After much thought and trouble shooting I found that the thermostat did not look like what I removed ( my fault I did not compare them when I removed the old one). I went back with the old one and finally found one that matched. Here I am 7 years later and the only one that I can find is for the 12 valve and in their data base it said that that is the only one fits from 89 t…

I replaced my ECM and FCM plugs with pigtailed aftermarket plugs. When I started the truck it idled normally but when i pressed the accelerator there was a loud grinding noise under the hood. What could I have done to cause this? It sat for over a month before I made the repair. Disconnected batteries first. Spliced wires one at a time. Reset throttle sensor before starting. No codes.

It surges when eng is cold and after it warms up it seems fine. It reminds me of a tank half full of water, you feel the push then it drags back. I just installed new vp44, new injectors, crossover tube o rings, new airdog 165. Talked with Lenny at DAP and he suggested hooking up Iquad and see what datta it might show. I havent installed the Quadzilla Iquad yet because of this. I also just reset my apps a few minutes ago to see what happens in the morning. A real head scratcher, I hear about ecm's doing this but its always when it heats up, or the vp doing this as it heats up. This gets better as it heats up.

@Mopar1970man - Was looking at one of your YouTube vids on some of your iQuad numbers and you mentioned on the phone to me earlier that your fuel and intake air are practically equal - or chasing each other as you said it in the vid. How are you achieving this? And is this any correlation to optimizing MPGs? My operating fuel temp is always higher than my intake air temp, probably 20-30 degrees higher if memory serves. They never get that close. Curious on others out there what they see.

My neighbor was driving my dodge the other day when one of the fan blades broke off and hit the radiator. I haven’t seen it yet but that’s how he described it. Anyone else had this happen?

I have to say I'm not a fan of the dry fit seals used on the crank. I've had bad luck with leaks. I have replaced a few on my own and others engines. The crank looks fine, sometimes I clean them up with fine Emery cloth. I use the seal installer that usually comes with it and center the seal housing as best I can before tightening the bolts. I never tried the shaft saver ring type most parts stores give me deer in the headlights look when I ask about a kit. Does it require machine work? Anyone use an alternative traditional seal?

So the seal is leaking in the cab and it looks to be the original so I ordered a new one. While I'm there should I replace the master cylinder also?

  9. Custom AirDog 150 Install Doing a custom AirDog install I think the hardest thing that people struggle with is getting the draw straw installed properly in the proper place. First of the draw straw should not be installed in the sender basket. The reason is the return fuel from the rear of the head is heated by the heat of the head and that will be the first fuel you going to pump back to the VP44. We all know that you want cool fuel for the VP44 this is a bad idea. Second, your draw straw needs to be installed in the fuel tank away from the sender where the hot fuel is returned. I typically use the high spot just forward of the sender which typically has no other int…

  10. On Dec 9th 2020 I bought a water pump from O'Reilly's and installed it in my pickup. All was good until last night when it went out. It leaked enough coolant out that the radiator fan airflow splashed it into my alternator and caused it to quit charging. My Edge Juice with Attitude said I had 11.8V when I got home. I found my receipt for the water pump and it says it's a Murray CP7145 and it doesn't fit my 01 Cummins, even though that's what O'Reilly's gave me. The pump they gave me fits a 98 and older 12V. A Murray CP6148 fits my 01 and it has a different pump blade design. The 98 pump has a curved plate on it while the 01 style pump doesn't have …

Hi All, My exhaust brake has been loosing it's verve so I took the truck to Banks Engineering, well, because they are not too far from here and thought it would be fun to visit the mother ship. It was very fun!!! They gave me a tour of the campus, except the military work section, because then they would have to kill me. They are super nice and it's very impressive operation. But I digress. So they told me the diaphragm is good on the exhaust brake can, that was my theory, and the Banks system tested out from the manufacturer. They didn't even charge me for that inspection. Super nice people! What they told me is my vacuum pump is not …

  12. Installed a new ATS 3-piece manifold and ATS Aurora 3000 turbo this past week into my 02. Got it done before the little heat wave that's set in to the PacNW. Initial feedback is that the Aurora (58/78) spools quickly just as I'd hoped. Much faster throttle response than my previous Fleece (63/65). Haven't hooked up the camper yet to the truck and put it in tow mode through the mountain passes so I'll report back with more data when I do. I did intend to make a video of this install but there are better ones out there. I will provide a write up later on some tips I've gained now installing the setup and hopefully its useful - or mildly interesting to a few of you. Couple p…

  13. Just be aware the total video length in 1 hour and 17 minutes when I laid it all out. Better grab a few cold beers and bag of popcorn.

  14. I've got my 2001 2500 5-speed 4x4 down with a lift pump problem. Currently the newly replaced (in-line style, original location on engine) pump is primed and working during starting and maintains over 15 psi (that's the my of my gage). If the truck has sat for a few minutes, it will turn on briefly when the ignition is turned on, and it responds to blipping the starter by turning on for 25 seconds. I can hear good fuel flow returning to the tank (which I just cleaned up when replacing the fuel sender). Once I got the fuel circuit bled of air, it started just fine, but as soon as the engine starts, the lift pump shuts off. The injection pump is apparently able …

I'm looking at Crazy Carls 2/3 compound kit for S300 w/475 right now. It sounds like I have the right smaller turbo for this to work, just not sure which larger turbo I should go with. My current turbo is the GXE 57/65/12 gated T3, for the new S475 it lists either a 96/1.32 or a 96/1.15. I'm not sure which one would work for me. The truck is just an occasional driver/tow rig so I don't need max power. I would like to keep the boost around 50psi as well. I have head studs but am still rocking the OEM head gasket with 250k miles. I sent an email to Carls asking their opinion as well, and to see if maybe there were other options.

  16. Anyone have first hand experience and can recommend a good 4" exhaust muffler/resonator for sound deadening? I need to tone down my 4" exhaust sound some and at the same time not restrict flow. I've seen a few models - Aeroturbine, MBRP Quiet Tone Muffler Resonator. I've got an existing muffler which the PO installed but can't tell the brand. In any event its a bit too loud and showing some signs of rust. Any suggestions?

So I bought the Quadzilla with Iquad and I been holding off installing it because I have a lot of lopping and to me too much black smoke with the 50 hp new bosh bodies. Dont know if the surging is due to this or not, I plan on sending them back to get them checked to see if theres a problem going on with them. In the mean time I though I would buy new crossover tubes just to have a piece of mind that they are good to go. Question is what injectors would you suggest to run for fuel mileage and towing with the Quadzilla?

  18. Started by Mopar1973Man,

Well gang I finally had my hydrobooster failed and started leaking out the output shaft. So I ordered on Friday and Pirate Jack's rebuild kit and put extra on freight getting the kit here fast. So hang in there there's more videos and write up as an article. Also there will be a track bar install soon too I'll do a video of the diagnosing of it.

Haven’t checked with Quadzilla on this but anyone else experience some iQuad display issues, specifically with some stray numbers showing up? See pics below of the number 80 in the engine load square and 30 shows up in the same location in the default gauge display. This is a mini Apple iOS tablet. Anyone else have this issue? Not a big deal but thought I’d ask.

I’ve been chasing issues with my VP for several months now. The truck would crank and run fine until it came up to operating temperature then would break up and most of the time shut off. so i but the bullet and ordered another VP from DAP. installed this VP along with new batteries and a fuel pressure gauge. I get the pump bleed and fired up. Runs good so while in the shop i was gonna swap out the dash. Got the new dash in and fired the truck up, after 5 seconds it shut off. Fired it up again and the same thing. Ran for 5 seconds and shut off. Third time it would not refire. So i contacted DAP and they said send it in and they would take a look at…
