Subaru's are prone to head gasket failures. First time was in Warentee. We paid to have it done again last August. She pulled in the yard & the coolant blew all over... wasn't running hot until then! When she let it cool & we filled it with water... thought the radiator had failed. Took it to the cheaper garage, who said the top hose had a loose clamp... refilled it again and when it warms up, can see stream of bubbles in the coolant. Moved it to the garage across town who did the head gasket. The garage is saying "it must be a cracked head" because admitting their job failed would be bad for business. Either Head gasket again or cracked cylinder head... …

I got a question to ask here and hopefully find a answer to this... I've got a 2008 Honda Rancher ATV I use here on the property for hauling stuff around. But my question is why is the Honda 420 Rancher have a oil change interval of 600 miles (or 100 hours)? What weird is my 83 Goldwing has a oil change interval of 6K miles. So why is the ATV thousand times less between oil changes?I'm considering moving to the 100 hours invertal even though the service manual specifies the miles first before hours. But I can blow through the 600 miles in no time in the summer being I get around 80-90 miles on a tank of fuel (3 gallons) I can suck up 2 tanks of a fuel in a day of riding th…

Finally got a job back with the USPS and im in the market for another mail delivery vehicle. I test drove a 1999 2wd toyota tacoma yesterday. It was pretty clean for its age and only had 141k. I noticed when driving (got up to about 55) it had a noise coming from the rear. Sounded like WOW...WOW...WOW...WOW...WOW. It was pretty consistant with speed. I checked the axles and they were both about the same temp, just a little warm but I didnt drive it more than a few miles. Tires looked good but if I look at it again im gonna rotate tires and see if the noise moves.

I have an 05 VW Passat TDI and I'm not getting much heat in the cab. Just wondering if anyone here can shed some light on what I could look for myself. Had it to the dealer, they said they'd fixed it and took some of my money but it still doesn't heat.

I came across this the day I spent 6 hours driving to look at a Honda Element from these azz hats: http://importautoconnection.com/ Who seriously misrepresented to me the condition of this piece of JUNK! http://importautoconnection.com/vehicledetails.php?vid=12236 Looks pretty from a distance. They told me right up front that it was a salvage title vehicle that they repaired that was not perfect but drove like and was good as new. Yeah.......right! This vehicle did NOT have one fender that lined up even close. The cabin roof was bent out of square to the point that the window glass would not lay flush on the window seals. The passenger rear window glass had almo…

Ok I have a tough decision, keep my mothers 99 Pontiac Sunfire with 50k miles on it or keep my 02 Toytoa Crolla with 170k. Both are in real good condition. Both need all belts and hoses which ever one I keep. Both have been on Amsoil, eng. and trans.I guess this is like a poll question.

Our daughter, my step-d (didn't you know I was the "Wicked Steppie" as in Cinderella)... bought this 01 VW Passat. It might have been a nice car once but I'm going to say it's a 'Pass-it'... but her girl-friends like VWs. I'm hearing this second hand... thankfully she's not asked me to advise her. She's been using her uncle's mechanic at the used car lot & nothing he says makes any sense. She broke down & had to be towed off the Mass pike after leaving camp. They claimed 4 coils were bad & had to do a lot of work to get to them to replace them. Then they claimed the car had 4 catalitic converters... the back 2 were clogged... so they cut out t…

I have a 2009 and and cant wait till we come out with new filters and trany fluid. I am also going to be installing a By-pass system as soon as I can once I reach the 30k and am going to try to go longer drain intervals 20k should be easy with the by-pass FYI do not to use the AFL in the new 2009 TDI because of the DPF this could cost you a lot of money down the road replacing the DPF. The AFL oil on the other hand with out the DPF could be used. For those that have older TDI's can use the AEL as I have been advised it is backwards compatible the 5w30 could net some gains in fuel milage. The AEL is made as well as all of our oils with the finest materials avai…

A friend of mine gave me a diesel engine out of a refridgeration unit, I am thinking about putting it in an 81 Toyota pickup, but have a few questions. Just wondering if any one know what kind of engine this is and how hard it would be to mate a transmission to it. I am thinking that the Toyota would get better milage with a diesel, but just not sure if this engine would work for this application?

Figured I would share this site with all. I recently had a bearing start to fail on my 03 VW TDI, bearing was the ac compressor pulley bearing, I removed the pulley and removed the bearing and thats when the fun started. Found out real quick it was a specific application bearing and nobody could find or get one. Finally after doing a search online for a couple hours found a few other superceded numbers for it and searched those, To shorten the story a new compressor with new clutch would have been 350 bucks, and get this to by just the clutch assembly alone was 450 bucks. So after searching forever I came across this site and got a new bearing for 33 bucks shipped. saving…

Pretty much says it. It seems to be getting worse. I know the wifee is on the road all the time... car has DRL (Daytime Running Lights). I think the last pair (NAPA) lasted 6 months. No, no one touched the glass. Last night she came home with NO low beams. Installed another pair of NAPAs today. NAPA BP1255/H1 package marked "AUXILIARY OFF ROAD" made for NAPA by FEDERAL MOGUL "Made in Hungary" The lights are "bright enough" but I'm thinking of trying another brand. At this rate, I should keep them on the shelf! --- Update to the previous post... I've spent a lot of time Googling & reading... found the following interesting link: …

Well I guess I am a trator! My wife and I decided that we had to do something. Our vehicles were starting to cost to much to keep up.So we went down and traded our two vehicles in on one new one. So I no longer have a dodge truck.I ended up with a Toyota Tundra crewmax. It is a very nice truck and should serve us well into the future. It has a great guarentee and oil changes for the life of the vehicle, along with repairs for the life of it.Sorry but I won't have much to post here anymore. I hope I can leave without being shot.

So after spending alot of money doing the body on my truck, I cringe at the thought of wintertime coming and driving it in all the road salt and crap that they use up here in Canada. I now people will think i'm nuts but I decided i'm going to lay my truck up over the winter. Last night I had chance to buy a Subaru Outback for next to nothing that's inspected until march of 2012 so I latched onto it. I figured if I can make the body on my truck stay good for alot longer, why not. I don't really use my truck for anything during the winter months other than transportation, so this Subaru will do what I need it to do. I'm planning on storing it for about four months, shoul…

I know this wont be all that impressive amongst the soot blowing high torque Cummins crowd. But I had enough of shifting Big Blue and climbing into a high truck (getting near 50), the DOT stops, and the fact that it was more work to drive Big Blue. So I bought an unimpressive V-6 Diesel. I wish an American company would make something like this, and I thought Ford or Chevy would have copied it, but no such luck, so here it is. And Dodge dropped out of the Van business for now, maybe they will be the ones to make a high van, if they drop back in? file:///tmp/moz-screenshot.png

So, don't get me wrong..i'm very grateful I am able to borrow a vehicle from my father while my truck is in the body shop, but what an agravation! 95 Subaru Legacy and I heard the brakes grinding so i figured i'd pick a set up on the way home from town and replace them. They asked at the parts shop if it's dual or single piston calipers ( I didn't know) so i said give me pads for both and i'll bring the wrong ones back. Got home, tore the front wheels off and took the old pads, opened a new box and wrong ones, so i got the other box and low and behold, some idiot was nice enough to buy pads and use them for a while, take them off and put them back in the box and return t…
