Been looking at hitches for a 5th wheel and wondering what benefit there is of converting the king pin to a goose setup. My thoughts are infinite articulation. Dunno what kind of articulation you get in a king pin setup? As well the other point would be that if you had a gooseneck setup, then obviously spending money on a king pin hitch is not worth it. But heck, seems like most king pin hitches are about $400. This adapter is about that: http://www.reese-hitches.com/products/Fifth_Wheel_to_Gooseneck_Coupler_Adapter,C5G I do have future plans to tow a gooseneck trailer, so would it be worth my time to get a goose setup and then get the adaptor and tow a 5th with it?

Are there any mods worth while that will make the travel trailer or even an enclosed cargo trailer more aerodynamic? I've got a 23' Aljo lite. Wondering if a nose cone or truck top wing would be advisable? Also I'm looking into a enclosed cargo trailer for work. I tow about 15k miles a year for work. Wondering if there is an increase in fuel economy to be achieved with a vee nose rather than a flat nose trailer?

Question how can you power your trailer when you dont have electricity to hook to other than the batteries and you want to turn your a/c ? the guy that sold me trailer said that I need 30 amp to turn the a/c on and that I would be needing a generator to do that is that the only way? or is there way to plug in to the my trucks electricity?

Alright fellas, I need to put this issue at rest! I'm torn on what to pick for an exhaust brake! I have an auto so its not as cut and dry as it would be for someone with a manual. If you guys would not mind, please use the poll. I'm trying to obviously keep the cost down, but when some have better features, technology, etc. it is worth paying a little extra. Exhaust brakes themselves are not as an issue as is the controller for the transmission. Was looking at the ATS coPilot as I was reading I could control the point at when the tranny would unlock. Therefore controlling how effective the EB would be at a slower speed.. If you have a suggestion of a d…

Ok guys first off I do not know if this is in the right area of the forum but here it goes. So can you right off the interest you pay on a travel trailer on your taxes. I was told you can as long it has it has a toilet and kitchen but I want to know if you really can. I will ask my tax guy for sure but I wanted to throw the question out there anyways.

I am curious about what kind of mileage you guys get hauling your RV's.I get right around 14.1 hauling a 3,000 lb camper. Running around 60 mph. Usually over one mtn. pass and then the rest of the same tank used mostly on level highway. How 'bout you guys?T.I.A.

Yes I screwed up...With the sudden change of weather and cold temperatures I winterized the RV in a hurry and didn't check everything out. I did drain all the lines, tanks (water, black, greys, and water heater). But what I forget to do is check that all accessories where OFF before plugging back in the RV to 120 VAC power again so there the water heater sat running empty for over 24 hours and lucky enough nothing got hot enough to cause a fire nor did it seem to burn out the element. It was still warm to the touch on the tank. So I'll assume the water heater is not damaged for now and find out in the spring of the year. When your done winterizing make sure everything is …

We have a 22 ft bumper pull toy hauler and as anyone pulling a TH knows they are heavy compared to a similar travel trailer especially tongue weight. Ours, while being rather short, weighs in between 7400 and 8700 lbs depending on toys, water and fuel in the fueling station, but usually has 1100+ on the tongue. Our old hitch, a Eaz-Lift 1,000/10,000 has always been a bit over loaded on the tongue but not gross and has shown no signs of damage. But now our TH is in the shop getting the tongue extended about 24 inches so that we can place our Yamaha gen, new air compressor and the usual batteries, propane cylinders and electric tongue jack out front, with the additional len…

Well going to work this morning was the first time I have been able to tow with the new (to me) truck. WOW, what a difference. I got up early and took the long way to work that had the most hills just for fun. The only issue I had was checking to see if the trailer was still there. What a major difference from towing with a gas motor…. I can’t believe I have been so hard headed about switching to a diesel..

I did a thread search but couldn't find anything. I am thinking about a two camera setup for my hitch and the rear of our bumper pull toy hauler with a switchable screen so I can switch camera inputs. A year or so back when I looked the wireless systems seem to have had reception limits the wired ones didn't have. Any of you that have one type or other I'm interested in hearing what you have, how its working for you and what did it cost installed.

I have trouble in heavy rains... the window tracks fill with water & overflow into the interior. I've mentioned this before, in passing, but I don't see that I addressed this specifically. Some I have answers to... others, I need all the help I can get!The first one I tackled because I had to. On the left at the head of our bed, the non-opening "escape hatch" window, filled the track with water, overflowing & attempting to float our bed. It is hinged at the top & pull the red handle the bottom pushes out. BUT the entire framed window is outside the window frame set into the RV skin. So the window sticks out. Rain off the roof cascades over it, gets…

So, yeah.. I've got a 2002 CAR-MATE 8'W x 20'L enclosed trailer with the double doors on the back. It really doesn't work well for me, and what I use it for, but I only have $1300 in the trailer. If it had a ramp door on the back, I'd be in heaven, and wouldn't have to jack with ramps 10 times a day.I've found parts for them (greaseable hing pins and collars, 96" spring assembly, latches, etc.) but no doors or ideas for doing it, or even if it's cost-effective. Used trailers in this size (around here) are in the $4K-5K range, and mine just wouldn't really bring that, I think.Anyone have any suggestions or what-have-yous, concerning such a conversion? Thanks.Rogan

I'm working on getting the 'model' of the RV, but anyway, here's the scoop... My dad passed away last year. Mom has since began the task of estate sale, selling the house, etc., and will be moving in late June. She bought a 38ft gooseneck TT and parked it at my brother's house. He lives on ~5 acres, and has a huge 40 x 60 shop out back. He's in the process of tying in septic and such for mom's TT. It's just her and two dogs now, so the 38' x 12' (bumped out) unit will be her new home; that's what she wants... So, to get to the RV portion.. Dad had a 1988 or 89 Ford E350 chassis Class C motor home. It's got a 460 (not sure if it's carb'd or FI), 28ft long, AC/heat…

Arrgh...On my last outing I notice water dripping down on the rear corner of the RV. It was leak from up inside near the city water connector. Looking at the plumbing there is a piece of vinyl tubing clamped to the city water fitting and the PEX elbow. So loosen up the clamps to find both are damaged so I might as well replace the tubing too. Gave a firm tug on the city water side and POP! It came off but it broke the PEX elbow. I called the local lumber yard and they have no way of cutting the PEX clamp band. Great! So I hunted around the property to find the Dremel tool I found a small grinding wheel started slowly grinding the band. Well eventually the band got hot an…

Ok...On my last outing I seem to be having a problem with the main power lead coming into the RV. What is happening I was laying on the couch and watching TV (Small black and white TV) off my inverter which barely drawing 1.8 Amps and MoparMom would run a little water and the voltage would fall fast. Flip on a light volt would fall. Turn everything off and the volt meter shows low 12's... But just a few lights with drop in below 10 Volts in a short time. So I'm assuming there is still a weak connection between the batteries and the fuse panel since everything seems affected by it.

I was off on our annual rendezvous re-enacting camp trip. We got back after supper last night... we stopped at TGI Fridays resturant on the way home. I really needed the break from driving. The truck/trailer towed nicely going up... it was a "a female dog" driving home. 3 hours of white knuckle driving back from Western Mass Bershires. Moderate winds & passing Trailer Trucks would blow me all over the road. I think it was the weight shift as a result of empty fresh water tanks VS filled dirty water tanks. I think the fresh water is 100 gallons in 2 tanks over the axles. I dumped the grey water in the field. I don't know what the grey water/black water caps are.…
