The time has come to produce the Mopar1973Man High Idle & MPG fooler switches again.

Posted

Well Gang,

The Board of Directors on the Mopar1973Man.com has decided that we need to produce some new High Idle Switches for the 2nd gen 24V Cummins.  We have spent a considerable amount of time designing a Brand New High Idle / MPG fooler Switch.

We have learned from the last switch design and have made significant improvements.  The New High Idle / MPG Fooler switch will be the same price as before, but it will be more robust and modular to allow for easier install.

We have decided to only offer a "Install Anywhere  Kit" rather than a gauge mount or Cubby Mount.  You will nly have to drill one 1/4" hole to allow for the fitment of the switch.

Some teaser pictures.

We are making 50 switches to start then another run of 50 after that.  You can order them from The Mopar1973Man.com Store I expect to have them ready to ship within a 6 week time.

  • I finally installed my high idle switch today.  I put in in the overhead console.  The cable that comes with the switch is just a little too short.  I ordered a 12" extension from Amazon and I was abl

Absolutely... That is one of the ways to enable the high idle like I've done with my truck years ago.

Ok perfect,so it wont cause any problems leaving the level 3 software in the truck while using your high idle switch

Nope... No issues at all. The only thing you might look into testing is the impact against your tune using the MPG mode. All it does is raise the IAT temperature and retard the timing back in the winter time to promote better MPG's.

Awesome, thank you very much.the reason i ask is that the truck had level 3 programmed and the smarty got ripped off..so thats where she be stuck at ha ha.thanks again for the fast response.i will order wed.

Might got over to SmartyResource.com and ask about getting a new Smarty and having it unlocked. Ask for Brian over there.

Quick question.    I have the edge juice.   When I use the mpg mode on the switch in the winter can I also use my edge tuner in conjunction with mpg mode.   I know the edge box alters the timing and so does the fooler in mpg mode.   Will I be losing out on mileage running them both.

No problem I ran the Edge Comp against the MPG mode for several years. What it will do is fool the IAT to a summer like temperature. The ECM and Edge Tuner will adjust timing as usual for those summer temps. This will be more RETARDED than typical winter timing. Cold air tend to promote some very advanced timing which is counter productive for MPG's.

Jonny,

I just had the same issue.  I sent Bob an email and he sent me a smarty to restore the stock program and I sent it back. Boy I sure do miss the throttle response of the smarty!

Bob is GREAT to work with!

Thanks for the input,im just going to leave it how it is for now.its been like that for a few yrs and havent had a issue.i loved my smarty, but nowdays everyone is saying they are junk.

If anyone needs Smarty support there is Smarty Resource which is providing the same support as well.

Smarty Resource is also vendor here on the site as well.

Does high idle need to be enabled on the ECM for this to work?

Yes, the ECM needs to be flashed to enable the high idle software. Most all trucks have the high idle software disabled. You can use a Smarty tuner or have the dealer do it with a DRBIII tool.
