Alright guys I've got a vibration somewhere that I can't seem to find. It comes on at about 67mph and goes through 71. then fades up until 75 where it gets worse again. Above 80 it starts to fade.

Things I've done: All new U joints, tires balanced, checked driveshaft and all weights are still there, and the rear pinion is tight.

Any idea where I can look to find it??

Centramtics took care of my wheel balance issues

  • The centramatics are nice as you can reuse them for many sets of tires/wheels. They do take some grinding to make room but that isn't a big deal.     It should work. You will pro

  • It seems to have started after it death wobbled 3 or 4 times. It wasn't after any parts or anything.  Interesting you say that. After the last bad death wobble my axle seems to be sticking out

It won't take much to throw a driveshaft out of balance.

That gives me hope!!

Had a chance to run it at speed with the cleaned shaft?

Like on my 96 Dodge I managed to some how bend a yoke ear on the front drive shaft and just being a little out of center makes a huge amount of vibration.

Yes. It's weird... when I'm on the throttle or off the throttle the vibration goes away. If I throw it in neutral it's pretty bad though. Driveline??

It also tried to death wobble again :(

Engine mount?  Trans mount?  Something that may have got bent or broke when your truck got hit.

No. I checked out all of that stuff. I think the wobble is something from the wreck though.

Well, you're a smart guy from the school of mimes.  You'll figger it out.   In all honesty though, I can't think of a way to isolate the different axes of the suspension.

I agree with AH64... bent wheel?  Have you compared the measurements of the hub to hub and frame dimensions to see if the truck is still square (in accordance with the FSM)?  Other than the stuff you've checked the only last thing I can think of is an alignment.

Thanks for the confidence! Now if I could just find time to work on the dang thing!

I just put these wheels on. They've been sitting in the barn since summer, so there is nothing wrong with them.

I know the axle is shifted to the driver side a bit from the leveling kit, but it wasn't wobbling before so it's got to be something else. Ideally I'd like to adjust the steering box a bit and take it in for an alignment.

Well the axle is moving side to side somehow. The steering wheel was in a different location when I was driving straight this morning and it looked to me like the tire was sticking out further past the mud flap on the drivers side. This came after I was turning the wheel back and forth this morning while sitting. Either the hole in on the axle is wallowed out (I don't think so) or the Luke's link is moving somehow. I won't have any help to find out until thanksgiving though.

Could you have broken a ball joint?

I'm going to bet on the Luke's Link is loose.

Like in the steering? I sure as heck hope not it's new. The ball on the track bar looked fine as well.

It might be shot after getting wacked in the wreck. It was like really loose, but I shimmed it up and tightened as tight as I could.

Really wasn't planning on it but looks like the DOR track bar might be in my future.

You guys have any thoughts on the vibration I posted on the previous page?

I was reading your CF vibration thread and thought I'd share a great shop that rebuilt my from shaft in January when my mounting flange at the t-case snapped. Truck parts specialist in Denver https://maps.google.com/maps?oe=UTF-8&hl=en&client=safari&um=1&ie=UTF-8&fb=1&gl=us&sll=39.7793489,-104.9210456&sspn=0.0002136,0.0003706&q=truck+parts+specialist+denver&gmm=CgIgAQ%3D%3D I also picked up ne u joints from them since they're a spicer dealer. Good guys to deal with

Might check your overdrive housing for cracks or it might be broke.  Transmission shop nearby that specializes in our trucks have found that a cracked or broken housing can cause vibrations that can eventually be drive train killers.  Basically spitting your transfercase out on the highway. They actually had a truck in the shop that had that issue
