Recently installed hamilton 188 220 cam in my 02 ram, followed all breakin and install procedures and it decided after the 3rd and final lash sequence to Gaul and seize on 5 of the seven journals. Now I pull the engine and do a full rebuild! Dang it.

Damn that sucks.

Hamilton suggest why/issues after talking with them ?

They said it would be caused by a loss of oil pressure to the cam journals. But I'm not sure how that would happen. I had ample oil pressure be fore start up due to bleeding the injectors after the install.

That sucks.   New cam or used?

Did you install it?  I can't help but wonder if the journals were damaged on installation.

The gauge reading for oil pressure is a dummy gauge.  You can tell by just turning the key to on position ( not starting the engine) and you will notice the oilpressure gauge go to right in the middle of the range.  Since the oil pump is driven off the engine it is impossible ot have pressure without the engine running.

While I understand the dummy part of the gauge, I have never seen mine move until after start up. Just went outside and turned the key on and watched it just lay there for 60 seconds.

mine goes right to middle mark engine off, strange.

I dont remember mine ever doing that, but i seem to remember something that Mike did when the high idle switch was a gleam in his eye that made the gauge do that. Not sure that was it but it was something he was messing with a good while back.

i will check mine tomorrow.

Were you turning high rpm? Weird failure place that I would say is not the cam's fault. Usually they fail at the tappets.

Here is a eye opener for the stock gauge...

Thats the one I remember. What is that you are turning on and off? my ears are to bad to make that one out. I noticed it is killing the temp gauge also.

ect temp fooler ( I am guessing he was flipping on 6 cyl mode)

For some reason I can't upload pics? I may have hit 2500 rpm one time on my way up the highway. @TFaoro definitely weird that it would fail on the journals. Tapets look fine. Hopefully the shop i take my block to can polish them out.

@4500 rpm they require you to bore the block out and install bearings in all the journals, that's why I was asking. My assumption is you have an underlying lubrication issue somewhere down the line.

Someone has a thread in here with a complete rebuild if you need any pics or ideas.

My stock cam came out looking brand new. That's the most aggrivating thing. Why wouldn't a lubrication problem waste the stock stick?
