November 19, 20159 yr So once the snow falls there does it tend to stay on the ground for the rest of the winter?
November 19, 20159 yr The weather idiots are calling for 6-12" of snow here starting tomorrow night. It's 41*F with a 30mph West wind right now. Not a cloud in the sky either.
November 19, 20159 yr Author Owner Out eating lunch in New Meadows. As for snow I hope it stays. New Meadows rule of thumb is fence posts should be buried so roughly 4 foot of snow.
November 19, 20159 yr Just split and stacked about a 1/4 cord of Ash today. Won't get burned this year though. Trying to get 3 years ahead on wood.
November 19, 20159 yr Just started feeling like fall here today after 70 mph winds yesterday and most of the night and down to 40 and faded to finally a breeze now and high of about 30 today saw our first real ice forming on ponds and small lakes today as well, been getting into the teens at night this week.. Last weekend we were high 60's and beautiful yet. Dry as a bone but loving the no snow yet. Hopefully it holds for another week, headed to Bozeman next week. for turkey day.

November 20, 20159 yr Wow coldest morning of the year so far saw 3-4 degrees on way to work this A.M. Crystal clear skies and not even a whisper of a breeze.
November 22, 20159 yr Staff I hope we do get a very active weather pattern this winter. So far in Oregon it seems we are getting back to normal with lots of rain and a bit earlier snowfall started up on our mountain where my job is. I'll bet you guys with all the snow just get used to it like an everyday thing. Thais like our rain, something you get so used to you don't notice it much.
November 22, 20159 yr Author Owner Yeah and no. By Thanksgiving the sky resorts should be opened and running with well above 4 foot of snow. http://brundage.com/snow-report/ 16" at the base and 22" at the summit... Way behind yet. Thanksgiving is just around the corner.
November 22, 20159 yr Staff Thanks for the link. I do hope winter comes with a vengeance as the normal balancing from extreme deficit is due to show. Keep the faith. Edited November 22, 20159 yr by JAG1
November 22, 20159 yr Author Owner Personally. I'd love to see a 4 foot winter here in my yard again. Been many many years ago. Even a winter with enough snow so I can use my blade on the ATV is good. I want deep.
November 22, 20159 yr Staff Was just reading that there are several years on Mt Hood in Oregon that start slow and Ski lifts runs cant open till after Thanksgiving. It was 07 and 08 things did not get going right away but turned out to be very big snow years.
November 22, 20159 yr I think I shoveled about 2 inches of snow twice last winter and that was 2 times too many and not much more than that the winter before, also have had mild temps as well only a few days of -20* and not nearly as long of zub zero temps as normal overall which is also nice, so far looking to be another mild winter but time will tell, but either way we are all of a prepper mind set cause one never knows here on the northern plains, bring on the nice rains from april through October and call it good. Yesterday I got both generators fired and tested out, gas caNS FULL AND ALL READY TO GO. gOOD THING TOO AS MY OLD GENERATOR HAD A GAS LINE DRY ROTTED going to the carb so had to replace that, better now than when it was dark cold blizzarding and in need. November 22, 20159 yr Author Owner I'm no better... I need to replace the battery on the main house generator. I know its shot. I want to actually create a custom cord from the generator to the inverter with the auto start feature enabled. So if the generator is rolled outside and plug in the main twist lock and then add a second plug for start/kill function then I can set the inverter software to auto start and shutdown. This would reduce my fuel usage big time. If I had the generator permanently mounted and wired then I could set up the exercise function too which just auto starts and runs the generator for set period of time. Then shuts down.
YEAH!
