Let me start off by saying that I am in no way affiliated with Quadzilla or Diesel Auto Power. I was simply asked to test the new updates because I have big injectors, I'm familiar with the Quad, and I know the person doing all of the tuning. This person wishes to remain anonymous, so it will stay that way.

On to the good stuff!!!

So what is V2? Basically it's a way to gain more control over the tuning parameters, with an emphasis on CLEAN POWER. I've got big injectors, and I've driven my own truck enough that I can drive it virtually smoke free, but I have to be very careful with the right petal (even when set to stock)

Here are the custom tuning parameters:

Alright, let's start with the power levels:
0=stock
1=Power Percent (Explained later)
2=Fuel mileage (Same as the old number 1)
3=can-bus only (Same as old number 2)
4=can-bus + wiretap (same as old number 3)
and so on to the maximum level set is reached.

So, as you can see the first 8 parameters (through "TPS CAN Minimum") are the same as they've always been. They will function just like they used to.

The next two have to do with wiretap fueling. The "Boost Pump Scaling" gives the %specified of called for wiretap fueling if the boost is below the "boost pump low limit"
As an example:(Let's say it's set on level 10) In the pictures you can see I have the scaling set to 0% until 15psi. This means I'll get zero wiretap fueling until I hit 15psi of boost. If it was set at 50% I would get 600us of wiretap before 15psi.
This greatly reduces the amount of smoke output without reducing your peak power.

Next we have Power Percent. This is the "new" level one! Here we have the percentage of stock power called for at all times. This is perfect to use for emissions testing, letting the wife/kids drive etc. This is also another way to reduce smoke if you're wanting to be really clean.

Next is boost scaling. This is the same as it used to be. Just a smoothing feature.

Next we have PSI% listed 0-17 in increments of 1. This feature allows you to set the amount of stock power based on boost. It allows you to ramp up the power from 0-17psi, effectively reducing smoke and making the truck more driveable.

Now for my experience with testing.

Level 1: With my truck stock, I can floor it at any time and create quite a cloud of smoke. You'd swear I have a tuner cranked, but it's not. With my truck set to 70%, I can floor it while doing 55mph in 6th and get as big of a puff as a stock 24V. Meanwhile it'll pull about 34psi @ 2000rpm and 40psi by 2500rpm.  It does make the truck a little doggy, but I could adjust the percentage up as I saw fit and still keep smoke to a minimum. This would be perfect if someone were to borrow my truck (never going to happen but you get the point) They could try to hotrod it as much as they want but won't be able to. I do think this would make emissions a breeze to pass, and it could be used as a safety device to keep the truck from being stolen. Essentially you can set it to 1% and the truck would only idle.

Now for the PSI%: With the power level turned up around 1500rpm I can stab the throttle (0psi of boost) and get nothing more than a slight haze until the boost picks up and the quad starts fueling hard. Spool is still excellent under these conditions, I just need to work on my top-end fuel command to reduce the smoke up there. This has made the biggest difference in CLEAN power. The quad is essentially rolling into the throttle for you as the boost comes up so you don't cloud the highway when you get on it.

Now the "Boost pump scaling" and "boost pump low limit": The wiretap fueling is essentially it's "own" programmer. It doesn't follow the rules of the can-bus fueling. This was taking effect in my description above because it doesn't wiretap fuel for me until 15psi of boost. Thus why it's only a haze until 15psi.

Now, what I'm not quite happy with yet. Off idle, if I stab the throttle on level 1 I get a puff of smoke. I am told this is because of where the quad takes over and starts controlling things. It's being worked on and should be fixed soon. Other than that I'm very happy! I do have only 20 miles or so of testing, but this does look very promising. I'll be putting 50 miles on in the morning and 50 miles in the afternoon, so I'll have more info then.

Any questions post em up and I'll do my best to answer them. The future of clean power for 24V's looks promising :stirthepot:

The latest revision.... what changed? My truck seems lackadaisical up top, and it's at 100% by 15psi. You think this  is just the tune not loading or?

Edited by TFaoro

The one I sent last night had your custom tune as the base tune, that was the only change.  I would recommend only using the base tune to see if it runs good.   There is no data transfer in that case.

If your custom tunes are feeling weak up top I am gonna guess all the tuning variables are not being saved due to the exisitng bug.  I have found that if I load the custom tune like 10 times in a row it seems to go, but it is hard to tell.

I haven't loaded that one yet or driven the truck since I got home. I'll attempt to load it up tonight and see.

no rush.

If you do load the one from yesterday just leave it on the default tune and see how it acts.  If it actus differently than before we know that not all of the AIDS are being applied %100 of the time as I am guessing.

Hopefully it runs smooth and strong, I am guessing the 8psi blip will be strange.

i love data logging.

I changed a couple things to  allow for the showing of the canbus fueling input and the output.

You can see the lighter orange is the canbus input and the darker is the output.  This custom tuning created to find what the max % was for canbus fueling.  It looks like anything over %125 on the top end ( over 20psi boost)  is going to max out the fueling messages.  %150 can be used below that to give a faster rampup to full fueling.

I also found that for the guys having issues getting the beta tune to load.  Reloading the custom tune doesn't actually load more of the variables,  is the powering off of the truck for long enough for the screen to disconnect, then turning the truck to on and connecting the screen.

You can check how many of the custom tuning varibles are being loaded by creating a new custom tune and checking the default values being used, the default values will be what the ADR box is currently using for that value.

I like what you are saying. If only I spoke your language. The quad interest me but all this is so overhead it aint funny. I like the possibilities so dont stop on my account.

The point of this next gen of tuning for the 2nd gen is to give anyone the power to "custom tune".   It wouldn't be as custom as EFI or udc pro, but if tyler can make his setup clean and smooth then I don't see a need for more than that.

If you understand that setting a PSI value to %80 will give you %80 of stock at that PSI then you can use this tool.    I am excited to see what changes are made to the Iquad app for this.  It should make it VERY easy for anyone to tune.    You literally set a % for every boost PSI from 0 to 30psi to map out your tune.   Easy as that.

I am not going to promise MPG gains, but so far I think that anyone with overstock sized injectors could gain a significant amount.  The guys with larger injectors, rv275's included, should be fueling less than stock map amounts.   I need to make a hyper mile tune to see what I can do on the highway, but I am guessing that Mike could get close enough to 30 mpg not to matter.:poke:

I have never been close to Mike on the MPG but did bust off a 21.3 mpg running 75 mph down the interstate a week or so ago. A personal best for me. That was with NO ac. COMP on 5X5. I have only had the COMP for a year and do like it but this would have been one to explore only I did not know about it at the time.

21 is nothing ot be ashmed of at 75 mph.  My truck struggles to break 18 at those speeds.  Seems anything over 60 my mpg drop off like a rock.

Finally catching up with all this.

If this tuning allows for working cruise control with power mods, it's worth it's weight in gold with that alone! Haha

First long trip with the tuning netted a ~2 mpg improvement.

Best ever was 24.7. that was stock injectors and light  AT type tires.

When I changed tires to the much heavier MT tires I have now, my best went down to 22mpg with those tires.

Just did a run with heavier tires and the 7 x.009 injectors and netted 24.4 mpg.  There is some more to be gained as my prior best numbers where 100% highway, this run was not and some stop and go.

I have to agree with @dripley I don't understand the lingo either, but still very interested, The time in the near future is coming to breathe some new life into my old engine, and I know where I'm going to go for advise. Keep up the good work guys  :thumb1:

Don't think this was mentioned already but is this tuning only available on the Quad Adrenaline?

Yes

The new tuning is built on the framework that the quadzilla provides.

Yea I knew it'd only be on quad, just wasn't sure if the xzt boxes could get some tuning as well.

If a guy like me were to get a quad adr and I already have full gauges, what would I have to do to get the tuning/setup done?

Get the iquad too and don't use it beyond tuning I suppose.  Digital gauges are nice though, they tell you a lot about the truck and what it is seeing from sensors etc.    But you don't have e to use the screen once you are done tuning.

It has shown me a bad map and oil pressure sender even though there were no codes.

Showed me when I had a bad ground, noticed volts climbing beyond normal ranges.

No zxt custom tuning, no way to input the custom data

I'm not opposed to the extra screen, but not sure where I'd put it since I already have the pillar gauge setup. I figure if I could set it up to show things like what my OBD sensor shows and things like you mentioned then it'd be a nice addition.

More is always better haha.

Yea for sure! haha

What's the difference between the two models that DAP has on their website?

One is Bluetooth one is wifi.  The Bluetooth works with Android devices the wifi works with Apple.
