Totally stock right now, except airdog 100.  Will the switch in MPG mode work if I have no idea if my 2001 has ever been programmed on for high idle?  If I need "re-flashed"  can quadzilla do this or only smarty or anything else.  Last resort being the dealer?

MPG...mine is two wheel drive.  I keep reading about people saying they are getting well over 21 mpg.  Best MPG I've ever gotten (since 2005), even using cruise control has been 18 1/2 (long hand, not overhead reading)  With switch in MPG mode what's a good "guessimate"  people have seen in MPG?

Thanks

We have an article that shows you how to test to see if high idle is enabled. It's in the high idle article section.

The quad cannot enable high idle.

Mpg mode works on any vp44 trucks in the winter by fooling the ecm into thinking it is warmer than it actually is.  This keep timing from over advancing due to temp.  MPG mode will very based on the ambient temp.  MPG wont generally gain you anything in the summer, but it will help keep mpg up during winter driving.

If your ECM has not had the High Idle feature enabled this switch will do nothing.  You can take it to a dealer and see if they know what you are talking about or rent a smarty and do it yourself.

Smarty and the dealer for sure and I just read here in a thread some Cummins  shops can. I dont know first hand on Cummins though.

As far as mileage, you are not bad at 18.5 on  stock truck. The two things that I found that increased mine were the addition of RV275's and then an Edge Comp. I can now get 19.5 to 20 on any tank full on a pure highway run at 75 mph. Prior to those mods I was seeing maybe 17 or little above at that speed. Not sure how the new Quadzilla is working out in the mpg area.I dont think anyone is seeing losses though.

the biggest key to mpg is timing.  OEM timing drops like a rock after you top %20-%25 load.  If you can keep cruising load below that mpg will be good.

First time I stopped by dealer to inquire on high idle, they didn't know what I was talking about but did look it up and told me that it was vin dependent, maybe only for auto transmission. Didn't have truck with me so stopped by with truck a year later, dealer had different people and they got me set up. First time it got cold, the high idle worked. I think they charged me $65.  Just finally ordered high idle kit yesterday.
