Battery jumping

Being "new" here and reading the multitude of elec problems...any advice on battery jumping?

    Maby unless there is a lot of draw then you could do some damage. Like cook alternator or overload something, I truly hate to even think about using my truck to jump or even use my winch, which I did

Isn't there a sticker on the fender telling you which battery to jump from?  I would go check but it's cold and it's my day off so I'm not getting dressed.  :sofa:

Yes...I was thinking about any problems with stray elec going somewhere it shouldn't or doing any harm.  

Service manual between "Charging" and "Battery" section is over 50 pages.  Probably good reason being so long.  Owners manual has good pic of "jumping".  

I'm still in bathrobe also.

You guys need to get off your lazy duffs and go look! Haha just kidding lol. :moon:

I would think the main battery would be the one that you want to jump. But I don’t know for sure!

Either battery will work for jump starting another vehicle. If jump starting the Cummins I would hook to the driver side battery shorter run for getting power to the starter. I've been known to use both batteries on super dead stuff.

Just because I don't know, do you need to unplug tuners before jump starting your vehicle or something else?

So if vehicle being jumped had some kind of elec problem,  no worry"s to vehicle providing the jump?

Like cook alternator or overload something, I truly hate to even think about using my truck to jump or even use my winch, which I did few times its just a thought that if something did happen what problems you left to deal with and cost associated with it. I suppose it's good to ask few questions about other vehicle before jumping it, like if it just died going down the road I don't know if I'd even want to crank it, could be busted timing belt or something, usually cars don't just stop because of dead battery. Imo. But if something sat over night and it ran fine day before then it got cold, then I don't see why not give it a boost.

    Courious...what's wrong with grounding to neg side of battery?  

     

    Both my vehicles say ground to motor or metal on car.  The ground might be bad only reason I can think of.  Any other reasons?

    During the time your discharging the batteries and attempting to start the engine the chemical reaction inside the batteries that are producing power are also producing hydrogen gases. So if you happen to hook up to the negative post on the dead battery first and get an arc it possible for an explosion to occur. 

    One word, HYDROGEN 

    Always wanted to make my car run on it lol, even made a small cell and produced enough to aid in MPG on my little sentra I had. Went from almost 40 on hwy to 42-43 :shrug:
