First off what are the benefits, if any, is there to a turbo blanket? I havent looked at all to see if there was a previous thread on turbo blankets but I was wanting to know if they're a good investment for $25 off amazon. Every kid in the country with a Honda Civic thats turbocharged has one so I didnt know if it actually helped or was just for looks. If it does help though, would it help performance to have one AND MoparMan's BHAF shield thingy he made out of a License plate or whatever its made out of? Anything helps as always. Thanks!!!

what are your mods?  sometimes they can be worthwhile depending on the needs.  Most of the trucks on the road dont have them

@Me78569 I have a BHAF, 7x.009 (100hp) DAP injectors, 150GPH Airdog, Smarty S03 (Sorry I know I'm a traitor I got it for Xmas this last year)

I wouldn't bother with a blanket.

lol S03 curse lives on.

@Me78569 it was kinda funny. Dad was wanting to get me a chip because my Superchip was messing my truck up horribly and he was stoked and excited for me to get a Quad and I get home and he plops a box into my lap and tells me to open it, and there was an S03 in there lol. I ain't complaining, truck now goes into high idle and I get 19mpg instead of 13

no worries I understand.    do yourself a favor and dont lug the motor though.

I try not to and I know it's bad. Is there something especially bad though? I kinda thought it was common sense now you got me worried lol

The smarty does not pull timing if you are lugging it.

Here is stock in a lugged situtation note the end of the graph is sitting at 12* of timing (green bars) rpms where at ~1200

OEM timing.PNG

Here's the S03

sw9lowrpm.PNG

See how the S03 will command 18* of timing at 1000 rpm at %100 duration?    That's a ton of cylinder pressure.

You want to smooth out the OEM timing pull some, but I don't believe the S03 does timing well outside of a dyno setting for peak torque at 1800 rpm.

might want to read the S03 tuning thread. that will give you insights into the tuning hte s03 offers

Oh wow yeah..... Is that why people will stack them with like an edge comp box? If so what would be the best to stack with?

no stacking just makes the issues worse.  the edge only adds on top of what the s03 does.

IE on sw9 for example, duration is maxed out at ~%30 tps input, stacking an edge on top will make it so you hit %100 duration at %20 throttle.

The only thing a smarty should be stacked with is a tst type box that only does wiretap.   I dont like stacking because that means that the tst is doing boost fooling so the ecm only ever sees ~16psi of boost so you aren't using the maps in the ecm fully.  Just reducing the resolution of your tuning if that makes sense.

So in a round about way you're saying ditch the Smarty and get a Quad? Wouldn't hurt my feelings I would like more custom tuning.

if the s03 fits your needs then that is fine.

Don't feel bad I've got a Smarty touch here that I can use because I don't have a Windows Computer to run the UDC software. Basically just S-03 tuner. With my set up I can't use the darn thing because my truck isn't stock. So the S-03 tuner will be overly smokey and timing too high.

Quadzilla way different deal. 3 times the power, full control of fuel (wiretap also) and timing. Can't go wrong.

Now if your truck was a Common Rail I would be telling you to jump on the Smarty tuner. Way better tuner on Common Rail.

Well my "needs" are literally just trying to get 20mpg and maybe hotshotting in the future. I'm hopefully going to be pipeline welding in the near future so a full rig + maybe a camper

I wouldn't sweat it personally, just dont be dumb and you wont have issues.     Use the revo settings to control fueling and it should be fine.

Yeah it does get pretty smokey with 100s in it.

My dad has an 03 and he gets 22mpg with a Smarty Jr.

You guys are making me want to jump ship LOL

Revo? All I've adjusted before was timing and torque just to play around since I did tune my dad's truck.

Man what did I miss... I love the quad now with v2 tuning and need Smarty to enable a few things and maybe reflash my spear ecm, then I'll be set.

Sorry for the intrusion.
