Went to change the oil sensor, ordered the switch from genos after confirming I had the right part number.

Went to install today and behold, my truck fights to be different yet again.

So now the question is, does anyone know what year sensor this is? I believe the truck is late 02 before the change to 3rd gen trucks, but I haven't been to the parts store yet to look at a sensor they have on the shelf.

Part number for the 98.5-02 trucks is 4326849 and a complete different plug.

Also, sorry about all the oil need to change the cover gasket on that side.

  • the way I understand it is the switch closes around 6 lbs of oil pressure and the ECM, I believe, takes over from there and bases the pressure on rpm, ECT and maybe engine load. Kind of a chicken s**t

2002 is a single wire, two pin plug but only one pin in the sensor.   What you bought is 98.5 to 2001 sensor.

Welp. Guess I'm heading to the parts store after work and calling genos on Monday. Thank you again @Mopar1973Man

I never buy Cummins... Just reboxed and higher priced.

Matter of fact I just ordered a Gates 200*F thermostat off a RockAuto for whole $13 bucks. To continue my efficiency testing. Over $30 cheaper than the NAPA.

For Alot I don't buy Cummins either, but even at work or for personal use, whenever I buy an offbrand sensor it never works right or craps out after awhile.

Truck usually gets Mahle, felpro, gates, etc.

But I am interested in the 200 thermostat result when your through with it.

Gates is definitely a trusted brand but Cummins isn't always high priced. I find things like CMP, CKP, MAP, water pumps, etc are easier on the wallet  buying in the Cummins box than buying from Napa. Its all in where the Cummins parts are purchased. I go straight to the horse's mouth by purchasing from Cummins Rocky Mountain. The shop I work in now (my last day is 12/20/18) is a Napa Service Center for the time being  but we've had a high level of failure with Napa parts so the shop is dropping Napa as a primary parts supplier and has moved towards sourcing OEM branded parts.

As for Rock Auto I lost faith about 5 years ago because I bought a pair of Genuine AC Delco front brake rotors for a Grand Prix I owned at the time. The warehouse must have been flooded because the rotors were so rusted that they were not in useable condition. I had to pay return shipping to get a refund and have yet to buy a single other thing from Rock Auto since.

If you want genuine Cummins parts cheaper than at a Cummins dealer or Mopar check your local freightliner dealer, just don't go in asking for a dodge part, need engine # on front of front case, always works for me.

You would be correct, that's the new switch I got and now my oil pressure gauge works again.

Unfortunately that price is correct, that why I ordered via genos. Cheapest I could find actually.

ill have to look into that, it would definitely be easier than buying from pscpartsstore.com or finditparts.com and waiting for parts.

My early 02 has the same switch, not sensor.

I learned that today when the Napa guy at the counter could only find it when you looked for a switch. It's strange but I'll just have to remember it.

So are you taking bids on that sensor that you cant return cause its got dirty finger prints on it...but fits my truck just fine.

I will start the bidding at a box of beer.

I don't think it a switch. I think it a true one wire pressure sensor like the older Mopar's had back in the day.

Seems I remember you having a video of your MPG switch changing the oil pressure when activated. Temp gauge gauge went down and the oil pressure gauge went up.
