Was there someone here on the forum that is making a switch to turn off and on the grid heaters without triggering a check engine light? 

Or a after market company that supplies something like that?

That would be me.  I put this one on my truck then I put a differ type that is a lot easier to install on @JAG1's work truck the first of May.  I'm waiting to see how he likes it before I write an article on it.

@IBMobile is the guru on this stuff, got me going on my ac on demand switch, works great, thank you. 

I'm glad to say it works beautiful. It was a cold morning yesterday so I turned on the switch IBMobile and I installed, It activated the heavy duty relay ( I heard it activate) waited for the wait to start light to go out and started the truck. I worked really well as I watched the charging cycles (the volt gauge up and down) and after idling for a minute or so I switched it off.

Basically the new version is a Ford Starter Solenoid. Pass the high current power lead of the grid heater through the high current studs the wire a toggle switch for the smaller control studs. Bingo. ECM still sees the grid heater solenoids no codes. You can turn off the grid heaters at any time.

Sure is a good mod when it helps save the diodes in the alternator by affording a controlled use only when needed.. IBMobile drove all the way to northern Oregon to put that in for me. The guy is incredible....

Simple version. Unhook the grid heater power wire from the driver side battery. 

 

Controlled version grab a Ford Starter solenoid. Now wire the factory grid heater lead through the solenoid to the +12V. Now the smaller terminals wire in a switch to keyed 12V power. This will control if the solenoid is on or off. That's it.

That seems simple enough and should work

I finished the article "Grid Heater Bypass Simplified" last night and will post it later today after my wife proofs it.
