Well I ran out of beer cans to keep up with this rust bucket so I believe it's time to address it before the whole thing rots away. Got some slip on rockers and cab corners on the way from eBay $210 shipped for both sides. I wanted to get all 3 back, inner, outer but for that kinda money I can almost buy a rust free cab and maybe I still will one day, buy a whole truck to rob parts off like @That Guy just did. Another option I had was to have a local metal shop bend me some rockers out of ss but when I shoed him what I was doing he said he tried it before for others with bad results and lots of wasted time, so my dreams and hopes went down poop tube when he told me that. I wanted to get it done once and never worry about it again. Anyway once i get my stamped recycled beer can from who knows where made rockers I'll be digging in to this long dreaded project. I called lmc and they said their parts come from overseas too and they were on backorder for slip on rockers so I just went with eBay, probably same garbage. Now I just hope inners have some meat left that I can clean up and salvage, the back side is part of floor pan and has some rot in spots but should do for now. I was also going to cut everything out and use a square tube like some have done, but figured I'll try the outer shell for now, it may last 10 more years this way and then... who knows by then....

Anyone that has any good advice or beer support feel free to derail this thread.

I've used that more for a thin protective coating. You would have to spray 100 coats of it to make it a strong bed liner. Sprays on kinda thin.

Best rust protection I have found thus far has been a timing case leak. :lmao:

Lookin good. Always nice to step back and look at a job you've done and marvel at it.

Just wanted to add if you haven't popped four plugs on the backside of rockers and haven't cleaned in there for a while it's not a bad idea, I believe @Mopar1973Man brought that up in the past. Oh man I thought I had most of it cleaned out when I had cab corners off, I use the long piece of stiff wire and bend a hook on the end just scoop out as much as I could, then some shopvac and compressed air, looked clean enough then I decided to spray a bunch of degreeser (because previously I sprayed a bunch of motor oil in there) and hose it out, wow bunch more garbage came out. Now that it's clean I used  some rust converter and a coat of paint with my home made spray nozzle, the last thing to do is drawn it in fluid film, believe me this stuff will be everywhere and I'm hoping that it works so I don't have to do this for a long time. I also did have a gap between the twin cab light housing and the body of a truck, when I pulled it off the gasket was wet, inside of the cavity it didn't look rusty or wet, but for safe measures I threw away the gasket and used some exterior window and door for a house cuz that's all I had won't be leaking now if it did before.

@Mopar1973Man, I've been wanting to do the oil spray trick myself. Bought a 1 gallon sprayer just for that actually. Do you spray just oil or cut it with a little diesel? I've heard the diesel will help it creep into the tiny spots.

Engine oil will hold up the longest. Just look when you have an oil leak and its scattered to the rear bump it takes forever to was off. Now diesel fuel is light oil and typically wash off in a short time. Blend the diesel and engine oil and be on the thick side will work the best. This si poor man way but better than doing nothing.

Yeah, I mixed a little diesel with it to get it to spray a little better. Turned out pretty good. Kinda of keeping an eye on it now to see how long it lasts. So far so good. Been through rain a couple times with it and the water just beads up.

I keep all of my waste oil for various uses. Use it for keeping wood from rotting or rust protection or even mosquito control and starting fires.

The entire underside of my truck beads water, but a lot of that was before my time and several oil leaks. At least there is no rust.
