Comments on various Dodge/Cummins web-pages were all over the place when the subject of differential oils comes up. Anything from 75w-90 to 80w-140 were suggested for the Dana 80 regardless of Dodge's recommendations. Then I found this study which looks like it was at least sponsored by if not conducted by Amsoil: http://www.syntheticwarehouse.com/brochures/g2457_gearlube_study.pdf

If you scroll down on the chart to page 19 you'll see who the winner was (spoiler alert...it's Amsoil).

I've always stuck to an 80w-90 except when we were full time RV'ing. Looking at that chart I'm wondering if a 75w-90 full synthetic wouldn't work just as well if not better. Anyone?

  • Ya. she wishes for a lot of things.       I tow a lot so I change the diff oil every 30k miles; it's cheap insurance.  The FSM calls for 75w-140 synthetic when towing a lot.  At Walmart

  • I use 75w-90 Amsoil in my 4Runner and truck. The 05 was changed at 50K mile intervals and always looked new. The 18 will get changed a little more often until the warranty is up, then likely the same.

I agree with @Mopar1973Man, alot of the studies I have read are skewed to the manufacturer sponsoring the study. Also, alot of the store brand oils such as walmart for example are made by better known

I often envy you manual transmission guys, until stop and go traffic for a couple weeks, with no distant drive to a job site!

Yeah...a 6 speed is a PITA around town. We usually jump in the wife's Prius close to home which requires no shifting at all.

Where I live everyone has newer cars and they all flor it from the stop, countless times I've almost been rear ended. Been thinking about putting a sticker on the back that says something like "slow shifting" people just can't get there fast enough to then stand around staring at their phones. What a wild world we live in.

I cant count how many folks almost rear end me when going from 2nd to 3rd. Too many folks in a hurry to get to the next stopping point.

When someone comes up on me like that I decrease my rate of acceleration. It’s constant and annoying.

Especially with a exhaust brake. The 2006 has a turbo mounted BD brake and it air driven so that one clamps down really well and unwinds the truck super quick. I get honked at, pass by with the middle finger scream your tails don't work, etc.

I miss mine. It is the ultimate solution for tailgaters. Used to have alot of fun that.

Some of the folks I pulled it on probably wished that all I had done to them. But when I cant see your headlights in my mirror you are to close. Had someone tailgating yesterday morning at about 50 mph and all I could see was his windshield. Had to back of the gas 3 times before he stayed back enough for me to see most of his car. Courtesy on the road is getting to be a lost trait now a days.
