Took the boat out today with kids, got to the ramp backed in set the parking brake started to unload the boat, then all the sudden my truck started rolling into the lake. I ran up jumped inside but my foot got caught between the corner of the door and handrail of the boat dock. I should have known better than trusting the parking brake, usually I put it in the gear and shut it off, the ramp was not very steep and it held fine for good while then all the sudden it just started rolling. I was parked a little close to the dock as I usually unload the boat and tie it off. Everything happens so fast I didn't even realize it till I was walking back to the boat and my shoe was wet. My kids said I had blood on my shoe, look down and there's a nice chunk hanging over. So much for having fun today, loaded the boat back up and headed to emergency room, where I sat for a half hour waiting to get stitched up lol. Good thing I was only a half hour away from the hospital. 10 stitches later now I'm drinking beer. Going to attempt this again tomorrow. Apologized to kids for not making it happen today. Now I need to fix the door as it got jammed between the handrail and stopped the truck from going into the lake. Guess I learned a few things, don't trust my parking brake and don't get in a hurry. PXL_20210430_212122764.jpg.916d20855593f495ea181406109a6113.jpg

    Glad you're OK, I NEVER leave my truck in gear when parking,(in fact I hate it that every tech/tire guy does) but I've got a unique situation, no neutral/clutch safety switch, ( I do have a toggle swi

Yeah the biggest thing is making sure the cable are not binding and you have enough pull to hold it tight. Like my truck (2002) I'm at the end of my slack adjustment to make it hold this tells me the cables are stretched. Now on the (2006) the driver side cable bound up and crushed the outer jacket pulling the brake. No good and no holding power.

 Mine is like that on the driver's side as well. Planning on replacing both sides at the same time, possibly the middle one to. Right now they work for flat ground but I leave it in gear when on an incline just to be sure she don't move

@DieselfutureHow is the ankle doing?

Much better, I took the stiches out Monday and heading to northern Minnesota for week of healthy leaving if I can get passed the boat ramp :lmao:

Good to hear, that was a nasty cut. Enjoy the trip. Need some of that myself.

That’s a crazy situation to end up in when your taking the family out for a day of fun on the water. Seems like for a busted ankle the situation turned out ok, you must’ve been moving fast to jump in and save it from sinking. Reminds me, I was waiting at a ramp couple years ago and A guy was launching a 20’ open bow with his Dodge Charger, and his parking gear cable broke and the whole set up went in. Couple of us had winches got him out, and the first thing he did was try and start it, fried everything. 🙄

Yeah I got pretty lucky with just a deep gouge and a bruise. Seems to be healing good. Lesson learned.

I seen some of the videos on YouTube with people loosing their trucks on ramps, never thought I'd be that close myself. Now that all the cables are new it works great but I'll still be shutting it off in gear from now on.

Yeah I had a close call and had my 2002 Dodge roll down the driveway and miss a customers truck and Jacobs truck on the other side. Same here shut down and lock in gear.
