Anyone have an aftermarket supplier of the lines that connect to the side of the HE (coolant lines/metal tubes)?  I am going to keep the HE in place but want to replace these lines as they are 21 years old and starting to leak.  Ideas?

  • Lots of air compressors use copper tubing. If you're really worried about get type K, it's the thickest wall among the common varieties. Used for HVAC and that's a pretty high pressure.

I think the pic you have is for a 12v and not the 24v.  From what I understand the HE's are different between the two.

No, that diagram is from the 2001-2002 24 valve PDF in the website's 24 valve article section. The part that Mike refers to above is #4 (905011918AA) in the diagram.

The HE on my son's truck is the one in the first pic I sent.  Perhaps they had more than one style?  His truck is a 2001 2500....

You're correct.  I just went and looked at my heat exchanger and it's the same as your son's.   The part #12 (5011918AA) in your diagram is the same part number as #2 in the forum parts look up diagram.  They look totally different from each other, so something is amiss there.   It is available but for $546.

Part #11 (5014171AA) in your diagram is the same as part #4 in the forum parts look up diagram.  It's still available starting at $294.

At those prices I'd find someone to bend me some new ones or in a pinch, get some soft copper tubing and make my own.

Not sure why the parts diagram has that "older" HE (assume it is an older style) shown.  Thanks for confirming yours is the same.  May just need to have lines made as those prices are crazy expensive.

Soft copper? Do you think it would tolerate that kind of force?

 

I thought there was a company that was making steel braided lines?

Full Send Diesel makes them but only for the transmission lines.  They don't make the coolant lines yet....

YES.  Soft copper water lines used in my house with 50 PSI.  I think it will handle the 16 PSI in the truck cooling system.
